✦ — .* This was her moment to pitch in. Diaspro nodded sympathetically but at the mention of the Dragon Fire, the wheels in her mind started turning. ❝That makes sense. Everyone in the whole wide universe gets educated on our origin and where our strength came from. It’s no surprise that everyone would want to help restore the home planet of only the greatest source of magic in the realm. Which I’m sure you’re more familiar with than I, after all, everyone has heard great tales of you one way or another too.❞ Di praised the nymph with a smile.
With folded knees and her chin elegantly resting on her palm, she turned all her attention on the blonde. It felt important to make accurate mental notes so she would be of the greatest assistance to the princess as possible. This gesture, no matter how small, might be one of her only chances to get on good terms or even deserve favours she’d be able to cash in later. ❝I have one word for you: shoulder pads.❞ Diaspro responded to the question. Her advice was genuine, knowing broader shoulders were both fashionable and powerful. ❝Of course, that’s only part of the outfit but to see the whole picture, I could glue some fabric ideas and fashion scraps together for you? Then we can go shopping with a purpose or tell your tailor how to do their job!❞
A small sigh of relief fell from Diaspro’s lips and she gave princess Daphne something not many people ever got to see: a grateful smile. Sure, she was met with some last few remarks but Di was pretty much born waving off criticism. ❝A force of habit, I apologize. Of course, I’ll only lead where necessary. It’s all about the group effort, I get it.❞ She nodded convincingly, almost believing her own lies. ❝And of course, I can fill in a form! I’ll make sure to put all the promises I’ve made here tonight on there and sign it so the board will know it’s practically binding already and have nothing to worry about. Now I suppose a thank you is in place here for you, Miss Clarke.❞
Daphne couldn’t but blush a little at Diaspro’s comment. Yes, she was well aware that her sacrifice to save the Magical Dimension was fruitful in having saved Bloom. She felt a little odd sometimes knowing that had that not all taken place, she would have been keeper of the Dragon Fire and Bloom a non-magical being. With everything Bloom has done in Daphne’s absence, it was almost unimaginable that Daphne would have filled that role, herself.
She tried to shrug off the thoughts running rampant to reply to her student. “Thanks, Di... really.” She rubbed her arms a bit, feeling self-conscious. “It does feel weird sometimes that I should realistically be, what? in my 30s? 40s?” She shook her head. “I’d be completely lost without my family.”
“Shoulder pads?” she asked. “Like big pointy ones?” She could only picture something like a villain wearing those. Hadn’t Headmistress Griffin worn those a lot? “Those would definitely make me feel in my 40s.”
Daphne smiled genuinely. “Of course, Di,” she said. “I’m always happy to help....” she trailed off, wondering if she should add the comment or not. She decided. “I mean, as a teacher... and a friend? We are going shopping together after all.”
