Seeing no one around in the house, she quietly placed the letter on the table when she suddenly felt hands on her shoulders and words. If she had been human she would have fainted from fright. Instead every hair on her body stood up as she raised her shoulders, her eyes wide at being caught in his house. She was alone with him in his house! She knew that it should not have mattered but she was trying to avoid him to begin with.
She didnât know why she was avoiding him so hard. He saw her. He actually saw her when no one else did. It felt so raw, the emotion did and she was not a fan of the feeling in the beginning. But now she knew that she didnât mind being seen so much as long as it was by him. Which made her want to vomit at the thought but she usually kept herself composed.
She turned around quickly in his hands and looked at him with wide eyes, wanting to hit him with something. At least it was him she realized. It couldâve been a half dozen or so other spirits that wouldâve made her life hell but it was Kaname. Gentle Kaname who wouldnât hurt her, just scare her enough to want to leave her skin.
âKaname,â she breathed heavily, trying to prevent the scream from inside her chest from escaping. âThat was not funny,â she answered, feeling her face warm up in embarrassment for being seen.
What kind of spirit was she if she was being seen by Kaname? But he always saw her. She couldnât hide from him if she tried. He saw her when she could be seen and when she couldnât be. It drove her mad but right now, in this moment, she was grateful that it was him and not someone else.
âIâI didnât know you were home,â she stuttered. âI was just leaving your report for you. Didnât want to bother you.â
Kaname felt somewhat guilty when he saw the discomfort written all over her face. At the same time, though, he took a bit of pleasure teasing her. At first, she would be so frightened that she wouldnât say a word to him. Now, it was almost like a... normal thing between them, although it seemed she didnât like it anymore than when they first met. Just that she became familiar with his presence. However, in all honesty, he had no idea what was running through her mind most of time. Normally, this would bug the hell out of him, but with her, it was fun trying to guess what she might be thinking.
âSorry, I canât help it.â Kaname smiled, chuckling a bit to himself. He almost wanted to add how he thought her genuine reaction to him was cute. But he had no idea of what her response might be if he let such words escape from his mouth.Â
âNo worries. Youâre never a bother to me.â Kaname reassured her.Â
It was odd how he felt at ease despite her being in his apartment. Inside his apartment, he didnât have much in the way of material. But it was the one place where he retreated from the rest of the world, a place where he could relax and not keep up his guard. Now, he was letting her inside his space, his world, and his life. He didnât mind it so much anymore. In fact, a part of him, unconsciously, wanted her to stay forever, wanted her to not be so scared of him.Â
âYouâre always more than welcome to stay, though. I donât mind.â Kaname amiably said, hoping she might take him up on his offer. However, knowing her, she would probably escape since, he assumed, she had no feelings for him than simply being âco-workersâ. The thought saddened him, but it wasnât as if he could control another living beingâs emotions.Â
âAre you working today?â Kaname curiously asked, wondering if she would return to the library. âPerhaps you want to join me for a meal?â
He prayed it wasnât too bold of him to ask, but whether she would outright reject him or not, he hadnât the faintest clue.
