UMBRELLA  ACADEMY  SENTENCE  STARTERS  «  𝘈𝘊𝘊𝘌𝘗𝘛𝘐𝘕𝘎 .

there  is  a  pause  in  her  motion ,  ever  gracefully  choreographed ,  the  click  of  a  heel  striking  the  pavement  mid  pace  &  a  twirl  on  it ,  head  turning  quicker  to  catch  a  glimpse  of  jill .  she  stops  when  they  face  other ,  a  tilt  in  her  candour  as  she  wears  a  smile  they  should  both  be  familiar  with .  all  too  knowing ,  all  too  playful  &  just  as  involuntary ,  sickly  bittersweet  like  a  name  smoothly  repeated ,  familiar  such  that  neither  truly  grasp .    “    watch  out ,  valentine—    ”    there  are  certain  defaults  she  relies  on  in  the  role  of  ada  wong ,  a  perpetual  tease  to  her  nature  that  dulls  the  senses ,  a  presence  intoxicating  for  all  who  know  its  absence .  one  that  allows  her  an  in  to  others  &  how  they  perform  their  lives  on  the  stage  &  she  finds  that  jill  shatters  that  neutrality .  all  that  constructs  ada  wong ,  all  those  details  written  down  on  the  inside  of  her  heart ,  memorised  for  a  part  which  seems  to  lack  its  original  purpose .  a  lopsided  smile  worn  not  because  it  was  ada’s  constant  but  because  it  was  theirs  to  share ,  jill’s  to  partake  in .  never  starved  of  ada  wong  as  they  will  always  meet  again ,  through  the  years  &  miles  spent  apart  they  find  a  way  in  each  other’s  company  &  they  know  it  could  no  longer  be  just  coincidence .  she  would  not  let  it  be .  it  was  a  new  meaning  found  in  their  connection ,  one  woman  starved  of  definition  finding  it  in  another ,  with  no  need  to  pick  &  prod  beyond  the  familiarity  of  the  act .

“    ———i’m  rubbing  off  on  you .    ”    what  little  remains  of  her  to  share ,  a  contrast  in  philosophy ,  between  seeking  peace  &  needing  conflict .  that  one  source  from  which  all  their  friction  spring  forth ,  eclipsed  by  a  mutual  desire  which  transcends  these  considerations .  in  the  heat  of  the  moment  they  quickly  vanish ,  a  convenient  ignorance  relied  on  by  them  both .  did  it  really  matter  that  ada  never  believed  in  the  justice  jill  sought ,  when  she  would  aid  the  fool’s  errand  anyway ?  their  lives  intersecting  is  a  measure  of  allowed  hypocrisies ,  for  how  long  they  can  pretend  this  discord  does  not  exist .  if  the  passage  of  time  makes  even  it  unclear ,  the  question  shifts  focus .  belief  is  immaterial  when  action  is  a  more  honest  showpiece .  cynicism  is  merely  the  natural  consequence  of  a  lifestyle  rife  with  similarity ,  its  reasoning  differing  &  ada’s  worn  plainly .  enough  to  bring  some  out  of  jill ,  it  appears .  she  laughs ,  a  low  exhale  from  her  nose  that  adds  contour  to  that  knowing  grin .  an  unspoken  dimension  rests  just  beneath  her  words  &  would  it  not  be  obvious ,  perhaps  she  would  speak  it  into  existence ,  a  counter-narrative  to  one  expressed .  for  each  trace  of  herself  that  persists  within  jill ,  she  notices  an  aspect  of  jill  within  her .  another  to  inspire  her  performance ,  how  she  plays  ada  wong  for  the  eyes  of  jill  valentine  alone .

𝘼  𝙎𝙈𝙄𝙍𝙆  𝘼𝙋𝙋𝙀𝘼𝙍𝙎  𝘼𝙎  𝙃𝙀  hums  .  ❝  and  you’d  like  that  ,  wouldn’t  you  ?  ❞  leon  quips  ,  gravelly  and  slightly  muffled  by  his  pillow  ,  nestled  inside  the  soft  duvet  of  their  bed  .  two  warm  ,  furry  shapes  were  also  settled  around  him  ,  one  big  and  snow  white  ,  lying  on  her  back  as  she  snoozes  away  ,  the  other  grey  with  black  stripes  and  round  ,  like  a  small  splodge  .  he  feels  like  a  slob  ,  especially  at  one  in  the  afternoon  on  a  thursday  ,  chris  already  washed  and  dressed  and  walking  around  and  doing  some  jobs  ,  but  he  supposes  he’s  earned  the  right  to  be  a  slob  after  feeling  like  death  frozen  over  while  heating  up  yesterday  .

𝙉𝙄𝙀𝙑𝙀𝙎  𝙃𝘼𝙎  𝘽𝙀𝙀𝙉  𝘼  𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙉𝙏  in  his  life  the  moment  she  found  him  ,  claiming  him  as  her  own  probably  from  the  moment  she  saved  his  life  .  suddenly  appearing  from  thin  air  just  as  he  was  leaving  for  the  return  trip  to  america  sealed  the  deal  .  she’s  his  everything  ,  seen  the  worst  and  best  of  him  (  and  knew  exactly  what to  do  ,  acting  as  his  anchor  ,  his  lifeline  ;  his  grounding  force  to  reality  )  and  still  loves  him  just  as  much  ,  so  it’s  no  surprise  she’s  by  his  side  now  ,  but  lucky’s  is  new  .

𝙊𝙍  𝙈𝘼𝙔𝘽𝙀  𝙉𝙊𝙏  𝘼𝙎  𝙉𝙀𝙒  as  he  thought  ,  and  as  chris  suggests  ,  the  notion  inevitable  by  the  looks  of  it  (  and  before  this  even  if  he  thinks  back  to  when  he  first  met  him  while  in  chris’  arms  ,  looking  impossibly  tiny  ,   even  getting  to  hold  him  for  himself—  and  apparently  needing  a  clean  ,  licking  at  his  cheek  and  hair  while  chris  laughs  )  ,  slightly  shifting  to  glance  over  and  see  how  content  he  is  ,  leon’s  met  with  a  pair  of  large  ,  round  eyes  ,  having  pushed  himself  behind  him  right  up  round  the  curves  of  his  legs  .  his  paws  rest  on  his  feet  .

𝙁𝙇𝙊𝙋𝙋𝙄𝙉𝙂  𝘽𝘼𝘾𝙆  𝘿𝙊𝙒𝙉  ,  𝙇𝙀𝙊𝙉  𝙎𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙎  ,  a  ghost  of  a  smile  lingering  .  five  more  minutes  before  he  pulls  himself  out  of  bed  and  into  the  shower  .  and  drink  the  tea  chris  kindly  made  .  ❝  i  will  admit  defeat  over  feeling  like  shit  though  ,  ❞  skin  sensitive  ,  muscles  aching  ,  he’s  too  tired  to  hide  the  pathetic  little  sounding  grumble  :  ❝  i  hate  being  ill  .  ❞

       pleased sound from the required and requested   -   or perhaps demanded attention  -  was let through smirking lips  .   eve’s fingers were allowed to remain against her flesh  ,  it would be so easy for eve to cut through  ,  right through the flesh to bone  .  if she wanted to  ,  and then to take what she wanted to sate her appetite  .  and yet  ,   florentina had never felt safer than in her hold  .  nothing could take her  ,  torture her or harm her again  .  not without her express desire  .  their old flirtation was sweet and kind  ,  and now every touch they had was filled with the passion of those lovers who had been stolen from each other  .  “  how dare you called me spoilt   ,  hm   ?   it is not my fault that those i know simply fall on their knees for my attention  .  i only seek for the same here and now  !  “   she says  ,  an exclamation   /   or an exaltation   .  she was not sure  ,   should her heart still beat  ,  she was sure it would be racing at the touches  ,  the closeness   ;   and the thinly veiled threats disguised as promises   .

in response  ,  florentina’s fangs are bared  ,  subtly  .  a silent promise   ,   should evelynn invite such sacrilege to her own body  .  “   i think i could do whatever i wanted  ,   and you would ask for more  .  “  she would answer  ,  leaning forward to steal a kiss  ,  without permission as before  .  the fangs tentatively applied pressure  ,  teasing for permission of some kind  .  she was a glutton after all  ,  and she so enjoyed what evelynn could offer  .   

“  or are you simply going to sit there and tease me  ?   “

she  could ,   and  at  times  fighting  that  urge  was  harder  than  it  looked .    perhaps  it  was  temptation  itself  that  continued  their  little  dalliance .   after  all ,  evelynn  was  reminded  time  and  time  again  that  this  wasn’t  the  woman  she  had  known  prior .   &   they  were  covetous ,   sacred  in  a  way  —  they  inveigled  the  edacious  beast  in  each  other .    demoness  acted  without  intent ,   only  affectious  infection  of  the  heart  prompted  such  reactionary  measures .      [ some  sort  of  morbid  tragedy ,   lovers  returned  to  each  other  as  monstrosities .  ]     however ,   eve  had  always  existed  in  shades  of  grey ,   doing  what  suited  her  when  it  suited  her .        ❛❛   oh ,   i  see  how  it  is  then .   you  want  me  to  fall  onto  my  knees  and  worship  the  very  ground  you  walk  on ?     ❜❜      she’s  all  teeth ,   amusement  etched  into  carved  countenance .    golden  gaze  seemingly  raking  over  salacious  seraph’s  visage .        ❛❛     —  honey ,  darling ,  lovely  little  leech  . . .    if  you  wanted  me  to  grovel  you  should  have  just  specified  that  was  what  you’re  into .   ❜❜   and  she  laughs ,   intoxicating  in  its  own  right   [   like  the  mere  idea  was  too  much  for  her  to  digest . ]      groveling ?   never .     ❛❛    these  knees  are  not  meant  for  falling  upon ,   nor  are  they  meant  for  begging .    in  addition ,   i  don’t  need  to  do  any  of  those  things  to  keep  your  attention .   ❜❜     metallic  claws  dance  over  florentina’s  throat  now  ,  moving  to  gently  grip  her  chin .    

&    just  like  that ,   as  quickly  as  contact  was  established  was  it  removed .   leaning  back  against  the  couch ,  palms  settling  neatly  in  her  lap .     another   challenge .    a  purr  in  response  to  the  glisten  of  sharpened  ivories ;  deliberate  in  their  threat .   space  between  their  frames  barely  lasting  a  fervid  beat .    plush  tiers ghosting  over  parted  petals ,  as  they  came  to  greet  her  own .    a  taunt  if  anything .    the  nip  of  pressure  as  florentina  attempted  to  reign  in  the  situation ,   demoness  smirking  in  response .   giving  her  gluttonous  little  vampire  all  she  craved  .   while  veiling  the  act  of  giving  with  intentional  teasing .   a  delicious  testing  of  limitations .

𝐀𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐍’𝐒  𝐓𝐑𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐍𝐎𝐓  𝐓𝐎  𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇  .  he  can  see  it  behind  the  growing  cracks  in  the  fake  mask  he’s  wearing  that’s  supposed  to  belong  to  an  angry  vampire  lord  .  even  as  he  mocks  a  hiss  ,  fangs  bared  in  empty  warning  as  he  prowls  ,  edging  ever  closer  towards  the  tree  he’s  crouching  in  ,  he  can  see  his  eyes  are  only  full  of  mirth  and  delight  ,  almost  child  -  like  ,  a  grin  dancing  across  his  lips  .  it’s  nice  to  see  after  everything  that’s  occured  (  the  horrors  faced  ,  the  hardships  endured  ,  the  sacrifices  made  to  get  here  :  they  weigh  heavy  on  him  still  to  the  point  he  almost  chokes  ,  unable  to  breathe  like  ash  clogging  his  lungs  ,  he  knows  ,  but  he  deserves  this  ,  to  be  happy  )  and  he  softens—  but  a  monster  hunter  does  not  falter  at  the  sight  of  a  vampire  ,  no  matter  how  pretty  he  may  be  .

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐑  𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓  𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐓𝐎  𝐀𝐍  𝐄𝐍𝐃  (  the  original  task  of  repairing  the  castle  long  forgotten  in  favour  of  this  silly  game  they’ve  ended  up  absorbed  into  ,  born  of  harmless  snips  and  pure  laughter  ,  tools  lying  scattered  and  abandoned  in  the  dewy  grass  not  too  far  away  ,  the  birds  singing  as  the  trees  whisper  ,  the  brook  nearby  babbling  )  a  slight  shift  in  his  footing  ,  using  nature’s  sounds  to  his  advantage  to  change  position  ,  he’s  ready  to  spring  .   ❝  but  matter  not  ,  for  it  ends  here  .  ❞  trevor  states  ,  grinning  wide  ,  before  pouncing  on  him  from  high  up  the  tree  ,  shouting  :  ❝  have  at  you  !  ❞

❝  𝐀𝐍𝐃  …  𝐈𝐓’𝐒  𝐅𝐎𝐑  𝐀  𝐌𝐈𝐗  of  both  .  ❞  trevor  admits  ,  answering  adrian’s  silent  curiosity  while  looking  down  at  the  book  on  his  lap  .  it’s  a  dark  ,  faded  emerald  ,  the  metal  symbol  embedded  in  the  middle  having  seen  better  days  ,  slightly  tarnished  under  his  fingers  .  ❝  it’s  about  alchemy  .  it  mentioned  rinaldo  gandolfi  and  i  got  interested  .  ❞  and  before  adrian  could  ask  further  as  to  why  or  who  that  is  ,  trevor  glances  at  him  as  he  almost  feels  the  weapon  stir  on  his  hip  .  ❝  he  was  the  man  who  created  vampire  killer  .  ❞

EXCUSES ,  HE  THINKS  .   BUT  THERE’S  A  SWELLING  pride  in  the  mere  fact  that  attempts  were  made  to  read  the  text  at  all .   dhampir  can’t  help  how  knowing  smile  begins  to  paint  itself  upon  full  tiers .  &  despite  the  vulgarity  behind  his  continued  admission ,  everything  about  the  description  is  nonetheless  incredibly endearing .   one  would  feign  to  even  admit  to  it  being  under  the  very  definition  of  adorable   —   flutter blooms  in  the  confines  of  his  chest .      ❛❛   ah ,  i  see .   ❜❜

attentive  hues  tracing  over  the  knit  of  hunter’s  brows ;  how  his  forehead   wrinkled   with frustration .  perhaps  trevor  would  realize  that  adrian’s  gaze  had  slipped  from  the  road  ahead .      (    —  however ,  nothing  impeded  their  ascent  down  muddied  backroad .  )  soft  hum  follows explanation , head  tilting   -   opting  to  look  back  toward  their  destination .     ❛❛   I  can  see  why  you  were  interested  in  it .   perhaps  if  you  keep  at  it  the  language  will  become  easier  to  translate .   it  would  seem  you  have  gleaned  quite  a  bit  of  information  so  far .   maybe  I  can  help  you  with  reading  that  overly  elaborate  scripture  when  we’ve  stopped  for  the  night ?   ❜❜
