IT was almost like she was meant to be in his arms when he held her like this. she fit so perfect, molding herself against him. she was a good weight in his arms, one he would gladly carry again and AGAIN if needed. if desired. if only asked, he wouldn’t let her feet touch the ground some days. “you know you are, darling.” his voice was soft, reserved just for speaking to her. feet starting to move, there was a laugh that left his throat – coming up from his chest. deep and hearty, he shook his head a little. “go right ahead, i can carry you back to bed. isn’t resting supposed to be the best thing when you’re sick?” IT was only a few more steps, doing his best to keep her RIDE as smooth as possible, when he realized something. “fuck, we don’t have anything for your fever.” jason couldn’t even remember the last time he got sick.
She adjusted the way her head rested against his shoulder slightly, pressing her nose into his neck. She’d admit that it was comfortable; that it was almost like she was meant to fit into his arms, though she was too stubborn to let him carry her, a solid amount of the time. Now, though, with her illness, she couldn’t help but let him take care of her like this; she was too exhausted to say otherwise.
His laughter made a small smile tug up at the corners of her lips - his laugh had always made her smile. It was warm and deep and always so truthful. While Monica had a list of plenty of things that she loved about him, his laughter was right up there, not a doubt in her mind. “Don’t really know...” she admitted in response, her fingertips ghosting over his bicep, trying to remain awake at that point.
When he spoke again, it caught her off guard. “No -- don’t worry about it,” she assured him, shaking her head slightly. “I’ve gotten through fevers without meds before, I’ll get through this one, too.” She honestly couldn’t remember being sick since she was a kid. She used illness as a lie to get off of work occasionally, back in New York, but sickness had never really plagued her like this. There was part of her that was curious as to how she’d gotten sick in the first place, but she didn’t really have time to think about it.

THE press of his lips moved away from her palm in order to press against her forehead. it was a common gesture, one he did often when he felt himself straying away from her lips. there was a low hiss that left his throat as he pulled back. his expression was concerned, and a bit UPSET. he knew she looked under the weather, but she was burning up. she usually ran hot, but this was DIFFERENT. “you’re burning up, darling.” his voice was tender. reaching up, he brushed her long bangs that usually framed her face away and pressed another kiss, this time to her hairline. “anything you’ve got, i’m going to get, baby. don’t worry about it.” and just like that, his arms came down in order to pick his wife up in a BRIDAL carry.
Bowing her head slightly, she closed her eyes as he pressed a kiss to her forehead. She knew that it would lead to him feeling her fever, but she couldn’t pull away from him - she never wanted to do that, she never would do that. He was her everything; she wouldn’t pull away, no matter the situation. She met his eyes at the sound of his hissing, a slight frown tugging at her lips. She wouldn’t apologize, for she’d done nothing wrong, but she felt bad for making him feel this way.
“Am I?” she murmured, her brow furrowing ever so slightly. She knew that she was, but she didn’t want to admit it quite yet. “I feel bad for getting you sick,” she murmured, unsurprised when he went to pick her up. One of her hands draped over his shoulder, the other gently cupping his jawline as she pressed her nose into his neck. Sighing softly, she let the scent of his cologne warm her, closing her dark eyes. “I might just fall asleep like this...”

HE didn’t trust that. his eyes stayed on her, watching her face as she touched his cheek. he turned his head slightly against her palm and laid a warm, scruffy kiss against her soft skin. eyes locked on her, the hand resting against her back pulled her slightly closer. just close enough for them to be touching. “you think i don’t worry about you constantly, darling?” his voice was a lower tone, as if they were the only two people in the world. “let’s get you back to bed. i’ll tuck you in real good.”
Her smile is a tight-lipped one - even at his familiar affection, she can’t bring herself to smile fully. Her head won’t stop aching, she was nearly positive that she had a fever, and he was still acting like nothing was wrong. How she’d blame herself if she got him sick, though... “I just don’t want you getting sick,” she admitted, her voice a bit rougher than it typically was. “But if you insist, how can a girl say no?”
“something wrong, darling?” a warm, broad hand, settled on the small of her back. his head turned slightly to look down towards her, and his voice was a tone that was reserved for HER and HER alone. soft. gentle. “you look a little under the weather.”
@darlingvanhorn ❤
He was right -- she certainly wasn’t feeling at her best. His hand on her back, Darling let her eyes look up at him, her hand coming to rest on his cheek as she gave a soft smile, a look that she wouldn’t have given to anyone else. “I’m alright, Buddy,” she whispered in reassurance, a small smile on her lips. “Just... low on sleep, I guess.” That was her best bet. Hopefully, it would all go away within the next day or two. “Nothing you need to worry too much about.”

“long day?” he repeated, his brows shooting up as he moved to place the bottle of wine on the table where two glasses were waiting for them. clearly things weren’t the best for either of them, but he knew for himself personally, that his mood would brighten and pick up just from being around her. there were no other external distractions, it would just be him and his lady, drinking and enjoying the night and each other’s company. “damn, and here i was thinking i had it the worst out of the two of us.” he teased, keeping his back to her as he poured the wine into their glasses, passing one to her with a soft smile. “talk to me though.. what’s wrong? what’s bothering you?” if he could do anything to take her mind off it or to fix the problems, she knew he would do that in a heartbeat. though he assumed them meeting up tonight was a distraction enough. especially if it was in the case of his crazy lifestyle.
kicking off his shoes, he unbuttoned the first two buttons of his shirt, gently tossing himself onto the bed with a small yawn. “everything’s alright.. just overwhelming – you know what my workload is like at work.” it was nice being able to share that with her, so she knew he wasn’t over exaggerating when he texted her saying he was busy or that he was tired. he really wasn’t screwing around. “you know.. if you want, we can scrap you ‘interning’ at my place.. things are clearly getting crazy for you, right? darling, just lemme know, it really won’t bother me.” it would be slightly sad but he understood it. he understood that she had her own commitments and they came first, he couldn’t fault her for anything of the sort. laying back against the pillows, he pulled out his phone from his pocket, checking the time before gently tossing it in between the two of them. “OH. i do have good news.” he nodded, his wide smile appearing. “someone may have finally agreed to a divorce and will soon be signing papers..”
“Yeah,” Monica nodded, pushing a hand through her hair, disrupting its neat part, but not really caring about it. It wasn’t as if Jason hadn’t seen her looking far worse than she currently did. It was alright to not be completely put together around him. It wasn’t as if her life was getting any harder than it usually was, it was simply that she was adjusting to Jason treating her like a princess, which made everyday life seem a little bit mundane compared to the high life that she was gifted with around Jason. “No, you probably do have it worse,” she admitted with a small grin, moving around the room just to settle some of her nerves, fingers tapping on the nightstand as she walked. “I’m just complaining. It’s really nothing.” Taking her glass, she took a small sip of the wine -- it was as delicious and as high-end as everything that Jason got, unsurprisingly. “Nothing, baby,” she assured him, shaking her head. “I’m just getting used to the way you treat me, and then I go back to work, and it’s just a cycle of these extreme highs and then my average life, which feels like a low, if you understand what I’m trying to say. There are some nights that it doesn’t feel like I can make it through my shift,” she admitted. The night with Jason was surely a relief, though - it would certainly be enough to take her mind off of her every day life.
She had to set down her glass for a moment to undo the straps to her heels, kicking them off as soon as she could. As soon as her feet were bare, she picked up her glass again, before climbing on the bed, watching to make sure she didn’t spill any of her wine. When she was certain that the wine was staying in the glass, she tucked herself up to Jason’s side, her free hand tracing a small pattern on Jason’s chest. “No, no -- not at all. Your work is fucking insane, don’t get me wrong, but if it means I get to see you three more times a week than I would without it, I’m more than happy to keep coming back.” That was the truth. The more she got to see Jason, the better, in her book. Taking another sip of her wine, she rested her head on Jason’s shoulder, letting herself relax as she reminded herself that they were the only people that mattered that night. When Jason spoke up again, Monica’s eyes lit up as soon as her mind processed what he’d told her. “No shit?” she asked, a smile quickly raising up onto her face. “Jason, that’s great news...!” There wasn’t another second of pause before she was surging forward to press her lips to his, her free hand going to curl around the back of his neck. “I’m so happy for you, handsome...” she whispered after she pulled back, pressing her forehead against his. “That’s really great news.”
he was a busy, busy man and as of late? he hadn’t had a lot of time to spend with monica because of his workload. she saw it in the few days that she was in his office. jason was always doing something – that’s how it was when you were one of the top men on the call sheet and were needed for everything. there was some light that came out of it all though — his wife finally agreeing to the divorce and agreeing that it wasn’t good for their kids and that they should have been ending things. it still wasn’t the final thing, but it was a big step forward. a step that he was gladly welcoming and enjoying the simple thought of. it was another step closer to the life he wanted to have with monica, the life where he could happily hold her hand and spend money on her; where he could show affection in public and smile like a fool for the world to see. fuck the age difference, fuck the fact that he probably should have been lowkey about it all for his wife’s benefit — it was his turn to be selfish and to enjoy himself.
it wasn’t his ideal meet up place but he supposed being in a hotel room with her wasn’t the worst thing in the world. it was their usual hang out spot anyway if they needed one another more than usual, but he hadn’t seen her in a few days and it was definitely killing him. he already had a bottle of wine ready for them and they could easily just get room service – in his head, they didn’t need much else. he had texted her telling her to meet him on the twelve floor, deciding it would be better to just stay outside the room until she arrived. though a smile appeared instantly as he caught sight of the woman. “look at you.. getting more gorgeous every time i see you.” he swiped the key card against the door, letting it open up before leaning down to peck her lips. “how was your day?” jason asked, pushing the door open slightly for her to walk in before following behind.
@darlingvanhorn
It was as if both of their lives had suddenly gotten far more hectic than they had been before. Jason’s work was clearly running him into the ground; his exhaustion was often plain to see on his face, and, even when Monica was in his office, sitting there with him at his desk, it was like his mind was occupied by at least three other things at all times. Plus, he had his family; his wife and his girls, the people who he needed to be with more often than he was with her. Monica understood, of course; she figured that a divorce would happen eventually, she just had to give it time. Meanwhile, her work was practically driving her insane, as well. It wasn’t like she had more shifts than usual - she was still working about the same amount, but the people at work were the issue. Monica found that her tolerance for bullshit was getting lower and lower as winter came and the daylight hours got shorter and shorter. There were nights that she wanted nothing more than to get into a fight with someone, to feel the impact of her fist hitting some asshole’s face, but she had to hold herself back every time. Some of the times, she’s wanted to text Jason, but it had been late enough that he was likely in bed with his wife, and a text from her would’ve made her suspicious, so she held herself back with that impulse, as well.
Getting the text from him was likely the highlight of her week. It had been far too long since either of them had seen each other, and she was practically craving the taste of his lips against hers. As soon as she’d gotten the text, she pulled on a jacket and made her way downtown. The hotel was familiar to her, at this point -- it was where she’d spent all of her nights with Jason, wrapped in the familiar sheets, with the familiar view of the skyline. The rooms were bigger than most hotels in New York, she assumed, and it was just nice to get to be in a space that was uniquely theirs, without Jason having to worry about someone from his life seeing them. Upon stepping off of the elevator on the twelfth floor, she couldn’t help but smile. He was just as gorgeous as ever, looking incredibly handsome as he leaned up against the wall. “I could say the same about you, Buddy,” she grinned, pecking him back with one hand resting against his chest. At the question, she sighed softly, walking into the room and going to lean against the bed. “Long day,” she replied with a shrug, slipping off her jacket. “Been a long week, really. I’m just glad to see you. What about you? Everything good?”
‘I’m your girl,’ she said in the dark. ‘Your girl. No matter what I’m always your girl.’

take on the world // you me at six
it’s really hard to have to fight constantly to have your voice heard in a man’s world. it’s hard to be pinned constantly as a stereotype. people are always comparing women and bringing them down, that i’m completely against. we have the obligation as women to not pit ourselves against each other because sadly, men will do it for us.
