Three Ways to Speed Up Your WordPress Blog
Your blog must load quickly to keep your visitors happy. If your site takes more than four or five seconds to load, visitors will be bored.
These are my tips to keep your blog running smoothly and increase its speed. These are my top tips for speeding up WordPress blogs. These and many other tips can be found on my blog.
1. Image optimization and resizing
This will increase the loading speed of WordPress by resizing images before uploading them.
GIMP is a free tool that can be used to compress images. It will also reduce the image size. If you compress a JPG, I recommend that the quality not be lower than 80% to avoid image quality degradation.
Alternatives include WP Smush.it, a plugin. The plugin automatically reduces the file size of your images when you add them to pages or posts. This saves you time and eliminates the need to manually do it.
How can I tell which file type to use
If your image contains animations or is transparent, you should always use GIF files for your website. JPG files are recommended for all images. They are supported by 99 percent of web browsers and can handle colours better than GIF files. JPG files also load very fast.
2. Keep WordPress and all plugins current
Keep WordPress and your plugins updated as they often provide security updates and speed improvements. Older WordPress versions and plugins can not only slow down your blog, but could also compromise its security.
The Update section can be found under the Dashboard of WordPress. You should find it easy to use for plugin and WordPress updates.
3. To speed up your blog, remove inactive plugins
There are many plugins available these days. I'm certain you have downloaded many of them and you don't use any anymore. It is a good idea to delete all inactive plugins. Check this out now ‘’wordpress help’’.
Plugins are code. Your browser will slow down if you have too many plugins. A visitor to your blog will see files in their browser. This can help speed up their experience.
