Hey, I’m not active in IZ fandom anymore but I see/hear of a few of the things that happen over there and I feel like being obnoxious for a second so just hear me out:
Sometimes, these people collaborate together!
And sometimes that collaboration is respectful and awesome and produces good work and a lasting, healthy partnership.
But sometimes, rather frequently, in fact, the people who are writers don’t seem to quite realize that:
1) Art is hard stinking work.
2) When the writer is in charge of the project, the project tends to revolve around that writer’s vision and ideas.
3) Art can be even harder work when it’s done in service of someone else’s vision.
4) The writers aren’t paying the artists.
5) Art is hard and can take a long time.
So if the artists eventually needs to move on, it might behoove the writer to be polite about it, and not, say, publicly post about how the artist betrayed the project…
And also, sometimes artists can’t, like, produce exactly what is wanted the exact second it is wanted, because they need a bit of time! And perhaps in that case the writer/project director might be patient and consider the artist is not getting paid and probably has other things in their life they need to attend to and doesn’t need to be berated for not producing up to the writer’s standard.
Here’s the thing: I draw and write! Both!
Art takes more physical effort and time, and you need to respect that.
