Who should I act like?

Before I was a Christian — before I decided to truly walk in the way of the Lord — I struggled deeply with my character, my reactions, and the way I responded to people and situations. And even after becoming a Christian, I’ve realized that some of those same struggles still try to rise up when life gets hard.

I’ve battled anger and a quick temper, lustful desires, cussing, judging others, attacking people because their opinions didn’t match mine, sexual immorality, body image struggles, identity confusion, unintentionally seeking validation, and becoming emotionally overwhelmed.

Slowly, God has been showing me something important:

these things are not the character of Jesus.

Jesus did not respond the way my flesh often wanted to respond before my walk with Him.

So what are the characteristics of Jesus?

Jesus was compassionate, loving, kind, humble, bold in truth, patient, wise, and strong. He cared for people others ignored. He loved deeply while still standing firmly in righteousness. He lived completely without sin and came to show us how to live.

Scripture shows us His heart:

“When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” — Matthew 9:36

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” — John 13:34

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest… for I am gentle and humble in heart.” — Matthew 11:28–29

“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” — Mark 10:45

“He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross.” — Philippians 2:8

“I am the way and the truth and the life.” — John 14:6

Jesus said, “Go, and from now on sin no more.” — John 8:11

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” — Luke 23:34

“The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” — Luke 19:10

“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick… I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” — Mark 2:17

“He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth.” — 1 Peter 2:22

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses… yet He did not sin.” — Hebrews 4:15

“All who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers.” — Luke 2:47

Jesus didn’t just teach truth — He lived it.

And He gave us an example to follow.

“I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done for you.” — John 13:15

“Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” — 1 John 2:6

“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children.” — Ephesians 5:1

So be encouraged today: if you are struggling with old habits, old reactions, or parts of yourself that don’t reflect Christ — you are not alone. Those things are not from the Lord, and He is patiently transforming us day by day.

Jesus is not only our Savior — He is our example.

And every day, through Him, we are learning how to become more like Him. 🤍

There are moments in life when you look around and realize that some of the people you once believed would walk beside you forever are no longer there. Lately, I’ve felt the weight of abandonment, distance, and silence — but tonight I’m reminded of a deeper truth found in Scripture:

God is never absent, even when people are.

The Bible shows us that God often removes people or seasons from our lives for the sake of our spiritual growth. “The Lord directs the steps of the righteous; He delights in every detail of their lives.” — Psalm 37:23. Sometimes what feels like rejection is actually redirection.

Not everyone will understand your walk with Christ. Some may decide you are “not Christian enough,” misunderstand your heart, or speak against you. Jesus Himself warned us this would happen: “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first.” — John 15:18.

If someone unadds you, blocks you, speaks harshly, or walks away, our responsibility as believers is clear: we pursue peace where possible. Scripture says, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” — Romans 12:18. We try to make things right, but we cannot force reconciliation where another person refuses it.

And then comes the hard command — forgiveness.

“Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” — Colossians 3:13

Forgiveness is not saying the hurt didn’t happen. It is releasing the burden to God. Forgiveness frees the heart of the one who chooses obedience.

Be encouraged today:

You are not forgotten.

You are not unseen.

You are not unloved.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” — Jeremiah 1:5

God carefully created you, and He guards what belongs to Him. He sees conversations you never hear, motives you never understand, and battles you never realize you were protected from.

Sometimes we carry offenses because conversations never happened. Yet Scripture teaches us to go to our brother or sister and seek restoration (Matthew 18:15). The Church cannot walk in unity if wounded hearts refuse healing conversations. Still, obedience is measured by our response — not theirs.

So if God removes people from your life, trust His wisdom. Pruning is never punishment; it is preparation. “Every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” — John 15:2.

I may be walking through a dry and difficult season right now — one that feels isolating — but I know God is working beneath the surface. Scripture reminds us: “We walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7.

Justice belongs to the Lord, not to us. “Do not take revenge… ‘It is Mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.” — Romans 12:19. One day, we will all stand before God, and He alone judges rightly.

So be encouraged — men, women, and teens alike:

If God removes someone, trust His hand.

If you are hurt, choose forgiveness.

If you feel alone, remember — God is still writing your story.

A dry season often precedes a harvest. 🌾

You Don’t Have to Stay There, Daughter

So many times I felt like my life was going to fall apart — like the things around me just didn’t make sense. No matter how many times I prayed, no matter how many times I read my Bible, no matter how many times I received prayer from my leaders and pastor, I just felt like I couldn’t do it anymore.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

“It’s your mental health,” they said. “Take medicine,” they said. “Go get a therapist,” they said…

High school ended. I graduated. I became an adult and worked a full-time job right out of school. I went to church full-time. I served. And still, I felt like I was giving everything I had to everyone and everything around me. I felt depressed and anxious and didn’t know where to go.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Then I got married. I became a wife, a homemaker. I made dinner. I took care of the house. I cared for the animals. I made sure my husband’s needs were met emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Somewhere along the way, I reached a place where I didn’t matter anymore. I forgot that I also needed to be okay. I needed care too. I lost myself.

“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:14

Then I became a mom — something I am freshly walking in now. Life no longer felt about me, but about everyone else: my husband, the house, the animals, and now my child. My baby was born under circumstances I never expected to face. I walked through different forms of depression and anxiety. I battled thoughts of suicide and a million emotions that didn’t make sense.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

I reached a place where I felt like I no longer mattered — like my dreams of becoming an author, inspiring others, being a photographer, and becoming who God called me to be didn’t matter anymore because everyone else relied on me.

But God reminds us:

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works.” — Ephesians 2:10

People say it’s selfish to think about yourself after becoming a mom. But the truth is — you were made for more.

I’m here to encourage you and tell you: you don’t have to stay there. Whether you’re a kid, a high school student, a hard worker, a mom, a wife, a single parent, or someone stepping into college — you don’t have to stay in that place.

You weren’t meant to carry all that grief, anxiety, and depression forever.

“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36

You weren’t meant to stay stuck in pain. That was part of your old life. Those things do not define you anymore.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

You were given new life.

You are loved.

You are chosen.

“You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, God’s special possession.” — 1 Peter 2:9

You are more than the identity the world tried to place on you. You are more than society’s expectations. You are more than your hardships and circumstances.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” — Isaiah 43:19

Be encouraged today: you are more than enough. You were made for more. And no matter what anyone tells you — you do not have to stay in that broken place.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail. They are new every morning.” — Lamentations 3:22–23

Paul teaches us that our troubles are temporary. The more you grow in grace, the lighter those pressures feel. God strengthens you through the struggle.

God Knows the Truth About Me

I see so many people creating posts, sending messages, blowing up phones, and airing out their dirty laundry on social media. And while I understand that sometimes we do this because we desperately want people to stay on our side, the truth is this:

There’s your side, their side… and then there’s the truth.

One of the hardest lessons for me was learning not to air out my drama online. Scripture reminds us that God heals the brokenhearted, but He is also the One who brings justice on our behalf.

We often call people names, talk behind their backs, and define them by the hurt they caused us or the things they said. But we forget something important — those people are still God’s children.

We see identity, appearance, attitude, personality, and mistakes. God sees the heart. He doesn’t excuse sin, and He doesn’t overlook wrongdoing, but He sees things in people that we don’t always see.

I’ve been perceived as a Bible thumper, overdramatic, tenderhearted, hateful, and harsh because I refuse to walk on eggshells. I’ve been called ugly, ridiculous, fat, skinny — all kinds of names.

But here’s the truth: people don’t know you the way God does.

Their opinions don’t define you.

It doesn’t matter if someone looks at you funny at church or judges you in a Walmart parking lot. People may hold opinions about your past, your choices, or your mistakes — but they don’t see the private moments where you went before God in repentance. They don’t see the prayers, the tears, or the surrender.

If you’ve made things right with God, then what people think no longer holds authority over your identity.

The Bible teaches that we must forgive others so that we may be forgiven (Matthew 6:14–15). If someone chooses to hold onto anger or offense, that burden belongs to them — not you.

My conscience is clear. I’ve forgiven those who hurt me. I’ve walked away from relationships that pulled me away from God. I’ve prayed for my enemies and chosen love anyway.

Being a woman of God is not easy. Being a mother while pursuing God is exhausting at times. But you must learn your morals, your beliefs, and what you stand on — because opinions don’t follow you into eternity.

God’s Word tells us who we really are:

• Blessed and highly favored — Luke 1:28

• Above and not below, the head and not the tail — Deuteronomy 28:13

• Fearfully and wonderfully made — Psalm 139:14

• The righteousness of Christ — 2 Corinthians 5:21

• A royal priesthood, a chosen people — 1 Peter 2:9

• Adopted and loved by God — Ephesians 1:5

• Hidden with Christ in God — Colossians 3:3

• The spotless bride Christ is returning for — Ephesians 5:27

• Able to do all things through Christ — Philippians 4:13

• Saved through faith in Jesus — Romans 10:9

Psalm 91 reminds us that He is our protector — the One who walks beside us day and night, covering those who dwell in His presence.

So be encouraged today:

It doesn’t matter what people say about you.

It doesn’t matter how they perceive you.

You know who you are.

And God knows the truth.

He removes friendships, relationships, and seasons that no longer benefit your walk with Him. And sometimes we try to go back to what God already removed — but you cannot put new wine into old wineskins (Luke 5:37–38).

Trust what God is doing, even when people misunderstand you.

Crucifying My Flesh

No, obviously when people think crucify, they immediately go to Jesus being nailed to the cross!! And in a sense, I do want to compare what I’m talking about to that because a lot of people see “crucifying my flesh” and they’re confused — I have no idea what you’re talking about.

A lot of times it can be really hard to crucify your flesh. Before we get into that, I want to kind of talk about what it means to crucify your flesh.

Crucifying your flesh means to avoid or hang up the sinful things of your physical body, your physical thoughts — the things that you want to do that do not line up with the Word of God or something that is sinful that will attack your relationship with God.

The Bible says in Galatians 5:24,

“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

When you decide to crucify your flesh, you may do things like: I really want to eat all the food in the world, but instead I’m going to crucify the sin of gluttony and practice self-control over what I’m putting into my body. And don’t take what I say out of context — obviously I’m not saying eating more than one plate or meal is gluttony. But when food becomes an idol — when you say things like “I can’t live without my Little Debbie cakes” and become so attached that anger comes when they’re gone — that’s the kind of gluttony I’m talking about.

Crucifying your flesh, for example, is even when you’re having thoughts or feelings of lust — reading books with spice, watching movies or TV scenes filled with lust, or wanting to do things before marriage. When you crucify the flesh of lust, you are saying in your heart that it doesn’t matter what your body, mind, or emotions want — God’s standard matters more.

Scripture tells us in Colossians 3:5,

“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you…”

And again in Romans 8:13,

“If by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

We crucify our flesh by saying, “Okay Lord, I’m not going to give in to these desires.”

Crucifying your flesh also means even though you want so badly to hurt someone, rage, or speak harshly, instead of doing what your flesh wants, you turn toward the fruit of the Spirit — love, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness. You don’t respond with anger but with Christlike character.

Jesus Himself said in Luke 9:23,

“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

So now we have a few examples of crucifying our flesh.

Some things I remember God having me give up — things I had to crucify:

• Ungodly friendships that were not benefiting my relationship with God

• TV shows, movies, and books that promoted things God calls sin

• People who didn’t encourage my prayer life

• Family members who tried to lead me away from Scripture

• Idols I ran to before going to God

• Doubt

• Depression

• Anxiety

• Lust

• Worry

• The “what ifs”

Now this is a variety of things I had to crucify and let go of. I’m not going to sit here and tell you it was easy — because it wasn’t.

I stayed up multiple nights crying, seeking God, asking Him why all these things had to leave. But looking back now, if I hadn’t let them go, I wouldn’t be where I am today able to tell you this.

Sometimes God closes a door to open a bigger one — one we can’t even imagine yet. It’s like taking away a child’s old toy to give them something greater. To them it feels like loss, but behind your back is something brand new.

We often have a microwave mentality — wanting things our way, instantly.

Sometimes getting rid of things is okay. Letting go of friendships, relationships, games, movies, shows, or items tied to the world is okay because they are temporary.

Solomon talks about this throughout Ecclesiastes.

Ecclesiastes 1:2 says:

“Vanity of vanities… all is vanity.”

And Ecclesiastes 2:11 explains that life without God is

“a chasing after the wind.”

We are here to enjoy life, but not to worship temporary things. Because Scripture reminds us that earthly possessions do not follow us into eternity.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:19–21,

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… but store up treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

And 1 Timothy 6:7 says,

“For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.”

So spiritually and physically, we can lay things down on the altar because we don’t truly need them — especially when they pull us away from God instead of toward Him.

So my encouragement tonight (as it is 10:30 PM) is this:

You will get through this as long as you give it to God.

If you crucify your flesh — no matter how you feel, no matter what others say — God will bless you. He will do things you never imagined. You will become the person God is calling you to be because when you crucify your flesh, you align yourself with the Father spiritually, physically, and emotionally.

When you say, “I will no longer live by how I feel, but by what God says,” you are choosing obedience over rebellion.

Because the Word says in 1 Samuel 15:23,

“Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.”

And ultimately, as Galatians 2:20 reminds us:

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”

✨ Becoming the Woman God Is Calling Me to Be

Starting out as a young teen, I had no idea I’d be where I am today.

Between long nights studying for tests, dealing with high school drama, and sleepless nights… life looked very different. Now, I still study—but it’s Scripture. I still deal with drama—but not the kind you think… spiritual warfare. And those sleepless nights? They come from being a mom to a beautiful 4-month-old baby girl.

And while I could sit here and tell you how hard that can be sometimes… I’d rather tell you what it’s been like becoming the godly woman God has called me to be.

I gave my life to Jesus at 19. But if I’m being honest—I wasn’t where I am now.

Yes, I followed Jesus. Yes, I served. Yes, I went to church.

But my heart wasn’t fully surrendered.

Becoming a godly woman is not an overnight change. It takes time, discipline, dedication—and people in your life who hold you accountable.

🔹 My Journey Looked Like This:

Faith being tested

Friendships being removed

New, godly friendships forming

Leaders calling me higher

Hard sermons that convicted my heart

Letting go of things my flesh loved

Spiritual warfare

Late-night tears

Hard, honest prayers

Long worship nights

Learning time management

Replacing idols with Jesus

Obedience in uncomfortable areas

All of these things shaped who I am today.

And no—it wasn’t easy. There were many moments I wanted to give up.

A godly woman isn’t perfect— but she is powerful in prayer and grounded in knowing God.

I know a lot of women struggle with what it actually means to be a godly woman… so I want to give you simple, practical ways to start.

🌿 7 Simple Ways to Become a Godly Woman

1. Pray Daily

It doesn’t have to be long or perfect.

Start small. Start simple. Just be consistent.

Even if it means sacrificing phone time, TV, or scrolling— make the decision: “I will pray today.”

📖 1 Thessalonians 5:17 — “Pray without ceasing.”

2. Read the Word Daily

Even if it’s just a few verses—start somewhere.

Set aside intentional time each day to read and grow.

📖 2 Timothy 3:16–17 — Scripture equips us for every good work.

3. Build Godly Friendships

The people around you matter.

You need friends who:

Hold you accountable

Speak truth (even when it’s hard)

Lead you toward Jesus, not the world

4. Find a Local Church

You need a place to grow.

A pastor who teaches truth. A community that pours into you.

Church isn’t optional—it’s essential.

5. Serve Others

We are called to serve.

Serving teaches:

Humility

Patience

Kindness

Sacrifice

And it allows us to bring others closer to Jesus.

6. Be a Woman Who Encourages

Your words matter more than you think.

Choose to:

Uplift

Speak life

Encourage

Don’t be known for negativity—be known for light.

📖 Colossians 3:12 — Clothe yourself in kindness and humility.

7. Walk in Modesty & Inner Beauty

True beauty isn’t outward—it’s inward.

Be mindful in how you:

Dress

Speak

Carry yourself

Not for attention—but for honor.

📖 1 Peter 3:3–4 — Let your beauty come from within.

🌿 Final Encouragement

Becoming a godly woman takes time.

It takes:

Dedication

Surrender

Growth

But don’t give up.

Whether you’re a:

Kid

Teen

Young adult

Fiancé

Wife

Mother

Grandmother

You are doing better than you think.

God sees:

Your effort

Your sacrifice

Your heart

And He is proud of the woman you are becoming.

How to Pray When You Don’t Know What to Say

You may say, “Makyah, I don’t know what to pray,” or “I’m speechless — what do I even say?”

The truth is, there is no perfect answer.

If you’re struggling to find words to pray, it’s not because you aren’t a prayer person, and it’s not because you don’t know how to pray. It’s often because you’re walking through a really hard season.

You’re not at a loss for words — you may just feel weary, overwhelmed, or defeated. Sometimes you don’t need many words at all. Sometimes your tears are enough.

There will be moments in life when you won’t know what to say to God. Especially during hard times… especially after you’ve already prayed everything you know to pray.

So if you’ve been struggling to pray, here are examples of how to pray using Scripture daily.

When You Don’t Know How to Pray

(Romans 8:26)

Father, Your Word says, “The Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know what we ought to pray for.”

I feel that right now. I don’t always know what to say, but I come to You anyway. Please help me pray and teach my heart to talk with You honestly. Amen.

Prayer for Faith

(Mark 9:24)

Lord, I come to You saying what the man in Scripture said: “I believe; help my unbelief.”

Grow my faith when I feel unsure, and help me trust You more every day. Amen.

Prayer for Forgiveness

(1 John 1:9)

God, Your Word promises that “if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

I confess my sins to You now. Please forgive me, cleanse my heart, and help me walk in Your ways. Amen.

Lord, You tell me, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Final Encouragement

I highly recommend finding Scriptures that relate to your current situation and praying those verses personally. Try placing your name into the prayers — it helps make God’s Word feel even more personal.

Spending time learning and remembering Scripture also strengthens your prayer life because you begin to naturally pray God’s Word back to Him.

Don’t be afraid to pray.

Don’t be afraid to be bold.

God’s Word tells us not to fear.

Start where you feel comfortable — in your prayer closet, your bedroom, your bathroom, or even while doing dishes. As your confidence grows, begin praying for others, starting with those closest to you.

My prayer is that this encourages you to become a prayer warrior — standing strong and bringing every circumstance and situation before God.

Tempted Hearts

“Tempted Hearts” is the title of the second book in my trilogy series. I’m not here to talk about the book itself, though. Instead, I want to talk to young couples—especially those in their teenage years and early twenties.

When I was little, I didn’t like boys at all. I believed boys had cooties. Of course, I later realized that’s just something adults say to kids as a joke.

But fast-forward to when I turned 13. I had my first boyfriend. At the time everything seemed fine. It felt easy and exciting, like young relationships often do. But looking back now, I realize I was far too young for a relationship.

Some things happened during that time that I wish had never happened—things I wish I could go back and fix. Obviously, I can’t change the past, but I can learn from it.

At 13 years old, I barely knew who I was. I didn’t know what I wanted to be. I didn’t understand my identity—not in myself, and certainly not in Christ.

Between the ages of 13 and when I eventually met my current husband, I had several relationships. And the truth is, the world constantly tries to tell us who we should be, who we should love, what we should accept, and what we should be okay with.

With those relationships came attraction in the wrong places, actions that should never have happened, desires I didn’t understand, and emotions I wasn’t ready for. Many of those things were the result of choices made when I was very young.

At the time, I didn’t know Jesus the way I do now. I had no real sense of self-worth or identity. I allowed my mind and body to be overtaken by something I didn’t fully understand.

I remember crying out, “I’m in love!”—but the truth was, I didn’t even know what love really was. I didn’t know who I was. I was broken, confused, and lost.

Completely lost.

Things began to change when my pastor preached a sermon about love—God’s love, and the sacrifice Jesus made for us. Later, he taught about soul ties and how sexual intimacy connects people in ways God never intended outside of marriage.

Some of those boys had used me for their own gain—not all of them, but some. And those experiences left deep marks on my heart.

Looking back, it felt like pieces of me had been scattered everywhere. My identity felt split into a million pieces. I wasn’t really myself anymore. I was trying to be what everyone else expected me to be.

But God restores what’s broken.

So here is my advice to young people:

Don’t give yourself away to random relationships. Save yourself for the person God has placed in your life for marriage.

If someone truly loves you, they will not pressure you to make ungodly choices or compromise your purity.

You are more than your body.

You are more than your image.

You are:

A New Creation

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

God’s Masterpiece

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.” — Ephesians 2:10

Chosen and Adopted

“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” — Ephesians 1:4

The Bible speaks clearly about sexual immorality and why God designed intimacy for marriage.

Hebrews 13:4 reminds us:

“Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure.”

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 says:

“Flee from sexual immorality… whoever sins sexually sins against their own body.”

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 tells us:

“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality.”

1 Corinthians 7:2 reminds us that intimacy was designed for a husband and wife.

And in Genesis 2:24 we see God’s design:

“A man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”

If you’re struggling with temptation, remember this:

Temptation itself is not the sin—acting on it is.

James 4:7 says:

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Even Jesus Himself faced temptation, and He overcame it by standing on the Word of God.

So remember:

No means no.

No is a full sentence.

Sex isn’t bad—but it is sacred and designed for marriage.

Temptation isn’t sinful until you act on it.

Hold your thoughts and actions captive.

You are worth more than a moment of temptation.

Motherhood Is Holy Work (Even on Hard Days)

How many times have you thought to yourself:

I didn’t do the dishes today.

I forgot to start the laundry.

The house needs swept and mopped.

The tub needs deep cleaned.

I still need to go through my clothes.

The couch hasn’t been moved in weeks to clean behind it.

The fridge needs cleaned.

Dinner was started too late.

And by the end of the day, it feels like nothing got done.

But let’s look a little closer.

While all those things sat unfinished…

You fed the cats — or maybe the dogs.

The baby got changed.

Your children were fed.

You gave cuddles and comfort.

Dinner still made it to the table, even if it was late.

You replaced the toilet paper during your ten minutes of quiet.

The baby got a bath.

The bottles were washed and dried.

The baby’s laundry got done.

You did tummy time.

You read books together.

You took your child to doctor’s appointments.

Maybe even to the ER when they were sick.

You bought groceries and stocked the shelves.

You dropped kids off at school and picked them up again.

You went to the park for a playdate.

You visited family.

You shopped for clothes.

You prepared for back-to-school season.

And somehow, you still think you did nothing.

Even when you feel unproductive, your children feel safe.

They feel loved.

They are cared for.

Motherhood doesn’t always look like a perfectly clean house or a checked-off to-do list — especially in the newborn trenches. Some seasons are about survival, nurturing, and presence more than productivity.

You are still doing something important, even when everything isn’t getting done.

Sometimes it is okay to sit down.

It is okay to rest.

It is okay to simply be present with your babies.

Because one day — whether they are toddlers or teenagers — your children won’t remember the dust behind the couch. They will remember how loved they felt.

There’s a video online where a mom jokingly says, “I’m a bad parent again because we’re having pizza for the second time this week.” Her child looks at her and says, “Mommy, you’re not a bad mom.” The child even encourages her to say it out loud: “Say it — say you’re not a bad mom.”

And she smiles and says, “I’m not a bad mom.”

Children see what we often miss — the love behind everything we do.

The work we do in the home is seen.

It is respected.

And most importantly — God sees everything we do.

The world may not always applaud the quiet work of motherhood. There are no trophies for folding laundry, no awards for sleepless nights, and no recognition for the thousands of small sacrifices made every single day.

But heaven notices.

Our holy work isn’t just cleaning homes or preparing meals — it is ministering to our children. It is raising them up to know Jesus, to understand His love, and to learn what He did for us on the cross.

Every prayer whispered over a sleeping child…

Every Bible story read at bedtime…

Every moment of patience when you feel exhausted…

That is ministry.

You are shaping hearts.

You are planting seeds of faith.

You are building a foundation that can last for generations.

Motherhood is not small work.

It is Kingdom work.

So when you feel overlooked, remember this truth:

God sees the diapers changed.

He sees the meals cooked.

He sees the tears wiped away.

He sees the love poured out again and again.

And through your faithfulness at home, you are teaching your children who Jesus is — not just by words, but by the way you love them every day.

Your work is holy.

Your work has purpose.

Your work matters.

As moms, we need encouragement. No matter how things get done, they are getting done.

Give yourself grace. Give yourself mercy.

The Bible reminds us in Galatians 6:9:

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

God sees the unseen work of motherhood. Every diaper changed, every tear wiped, every sleepless night — none of it is wasted. The Lord sees your labor and will bless your faithfulness.

And when you feel overwhelmed, remember His invitation in Matthew 11:28–30:

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

So don’t focus on what didn’t get done today.

Focus on what did.

You loved.

You showed up.

You cared.

You nurtured.

And that is holy work.

Motherhood isn’t measured by perfection — it’s measured by love.

Lately, I truly believe the Lord has been working on me through decluttering.

Why, you may ask?

A lot of it has to do with how small the trailer we live in is. It’s me, my husband, and our daughter in a two-bedroom, two-bath home. One bedroom is our room and the nursery, and the other is an office, storage room, and gaming room all in one.

Most of our belongings came from a much bigger house before life unexpectedly changed and we had to move in with my husband’s parents. Now, fast forward — we’re here, and I’m learning something new.

If you know me, you know I love to read. I have bookshelves full of books — books I’ve read, books I plan to read, and thrift-store finds I couldn’t leave behind. But the other day I sat looking at my shelves and felt frustrated. They looked messy, crowded, and honestly… overwhelming.

So I started going through them.

I gave away books I knew I would never read or ones that no longer interested me — which was hard because every book had been chosen carefully. But once I removed the clutter and reorganized everything, something changed.

Yesterday, my best friend and I put together a beautiful white shelf my husband bought me with our tax money. Because I was obedient in clearing out what no longer belonged, my shelves are now peaceful, organized, and beautiful.

And of course, God began speaking to me through it.

The Lord doesn’t want our minds, emotions, or thoughts cluttered with the worries and distractions of this world. When we declutter spiritually, we remove the lies the enemy tries to plant and make room for what God wants to grow inside us.

Hebrews 12:1 tells us to throw off everything that hinders so we can run our race with endurance.

Isaiah 43:18–19 reminds us:

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”

Sometimes we hold onto things — physically and spiritually — that God is asking us to release.

Being a spiritual or physical hoarder doesn’t give us room to grow. Just like corroded battery terminals stop a car from working properly, clutter in our lives can block spiritual connection and growth. We have to clean away what doesn’t belong so we can function the way God designed us to.

So here’s my encouragement tonight — as I’m typing this at 12:35 in the morning:

It’s okay to let go.

Let go of what you can’t control.

Let go of what you were never meant to carry.

Let go of what no longer serves your walk with God.

Declutter your home.

Declutter your heart.

Declutter your mind.

Make room to breathe, to feel peace, and to see the anointing of Jesus clearly in your life.

Nothing we hold onto will sustain us long-term — only God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus can carry us into the future He has prepared.

This is your sign to declutter — physically and spiritually — so you no longer feel suffocated, but free.

Putting the Bible First in a Distracted World

I think we all live in moments where we could be reading our Bibles, praying, and seeking God — but instead we find ourselves wrapped up in a TV show, scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat, chatting with friends, or going out just to distract ourselves from what’s really going on inside our lives.

We’ve all been there.

We’ve cried out to God and promised, “If You just get me through this, I’ll read my Bible every day.”

We’ve made promises to pray for someone — and then forgot.

We’ve all fallen short of the glory of God.

Sometimes we idolize things without even realizing it — friendships, family members, video games, shows, or movie series. We convince ourselves our reasons for missing church or avoiding time with God are good enough, but the truth is this:

There is no real excuse for not giving God even ten minutes of our day.

It’s okay to enjoy life. God wants us to live and experience joy. But sometimes we become so wrapped up in what we want that we forget God is still there, waiting for us.

And honestly? Transitioning back to putting Him first can be hard.

I know because I struggle with this too.

Some days I try to distract myself from my past or chase things that make my flesh happy. But the truth is:

My flesh doesn’t get me into heaven.

My flesh doesn’t give me eternal life.

My flesh doesn’t help me win my daily battles.

My flesh didn’t save me or redeem me.

In fact, my flesh is my weakness — something I am called to surrender daily.

I’m not writing this because I’ve mastered it. I’m writing this because I fight this battle every single day.

But here’s the encouragement:

Christianity is more than rules and regulations.

Jesus is joyful — and following Him is joyful too.

Jesus walked with His disciples. He laughed with them, shared life with them, built deep friendships with them. People followed Him not because He was boring or legalistic, but because He was Jesus — full of truth, love, and life.

He loved us so much that He died for our sins.

Not everyone would give up their life for you — not even some of your closest friends. Yet Jesus did.

So yes, He deserves five minutes.

Ten minutes.

An hour.

Sometimes even more.

If you’re struggling with temptation — remember this:

Temptation itself is not sin. Sin happens when we give in.

Even Jesus was tempted by Satan, but He responded with Scripture and continued walking in obedience. That is our example.

We are called to deny our flesh and choose what Jesus wants over what we want — because the truth is, we don’t always know what’s best for ourselves.

Jesus does.

The Weight of Overthinking

Imagine yourself sitting on the couch or lying in bed. You wake up, and before your feet even touch the floor, your mind is already running in a hundred different directions.

Laundry needs to be done.

Dishes need to be washed.

The house needs to be picked up.

The baby needs to be fed and changed.

The floors need sweeping and mopping.

Clothes need sorting — what fits stays, what doesn’t gets packed away.

The cats are running wild and need to be fed.

A friend texted you, but something about the message feels off. Now you’re replaying it over and over, wondering if they’re mad at you… trying to figure out what you did wrong — even though deep down, there’s probably nothing wrong at all.

Now imagine carrying all of that at once.

You feel overwhelmed.

You feel behind.

You feel like no matter how much you do, it’s never enough.

You try to be the perfect daughter, the perfect Christian, the perfect wife, the perfect mom, the perfect friend, the perfect sister.

And as your thoughts grow louder and faster, your mind goes into overload.

You don’t even realize it… but you’re overthinking.

Overthinking is heavy. It fills your mind with noise — so much noise that you can’t hear truth anymore.

The enemy uses those constant thoughts you repeat silently in your head to keep you overwhelmed, distracted, and exhausted. When your mind is in overdrive, it becomes hard to hear what the Lord is actually saying about you.

You can’t hear Him reminding you that you are loved.

You can’t hear Him saying He is proud of your growth.

You can’t hear Him calling you beautiful, chosen, and enough.

All you hear are the lies.

You start believing people are upset with you when they aren’t.

You assume you’ve failed when you haven’t.

You convince yourself you’ll never make anyone happy — because maybe that’s how you’ve felt for a long time.

But the truth is this:

That is not what God says about you.

The Lord created you with purpose and intention. The responsibilities you carry are normal parts of life, but sometimes we place impossible expectations on ourselves. We live inside our own thoughts instead of resting in God’s truth.

I know this struggle personally. I fight these thoughts daily. It is hard to feel worthy when life or people have made you feel otherwise.

But we were never meant to seek recognition from people — only from God.

“It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.” — Psalm 118:8–9

“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.” — Psalm 146:3

“Am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God?” — Galatians 1:10

When we chase human approval, our hearts stay restless. When we seek God’s approval, we find peace.

Search for God’s voice above your thoughts.

What He says about you matters more than anything anyone else will ever say.

Life After the NICU

After 100+ days in the NICU with my baby girl born at 25 weeks, I struggled to cope with a variety of things.

Postpartum depression.

Feelings of unworthiness.

Lack of sleep.

Constant worry.

The pain of not coming home with my baby.

I wondered if I had done something wrong.

I dealt with feeling alone.

Isolation.

Guilt and shame.

Blaming myself for what happened.

There were nights I stayed up crying, asking God how to make it better.

I worried I wasn’t doing enough because I couldn’t live in the NICU like some moms could. I had to come home and continue “normal life.” I was breastfeeding while my supply was dipping. Everything felt fragile.

There were so many factors pulling at my heart.

Then the day came.

I got the call that Nova was a week away from coming home.

My heart burst into a million emotions — excitement, fear, worry. I didn’t even know how to react. I was able to stay a few days with her the week before discharge, and when the doctor told me she was three days on full feeds, off oxygen, and would be coming home — not just coming home, but on Christmas Eve — it felt like the most beautiful, cherished gift I could ever receive.

Nothing could top it.

I was beyond excited. But I also went into protection mode. I made rules. Boundaries. Guidelines. Because my baby girl was finally coming home, and I refused to let anything jeopardize that.

Life after the NICU became amazing, worrisome, beautiful — and raw.

But with that beauty came struggles.

Postpartum rage.

Exhaustion.

Drying up my milk supply sooner than I wanted.

Reflux issues.

Sickness scares.

The transition was hard.

As a NICU mom 💜 you never forget the sounds. The beeping when heart rates dip. The alarms when oxygen drops. The word “bradycardia.” Nurses constantly coming in for vitals. Doctors rounding. Waiting for answers you may or may not like.

You’d think once you’re home, it all goes away.

It doesn’t.

We came home on a monitor — one that barely worked half the time. I woke up every hour checking to make sure she was breathing. Sometimes I still do. Not because I don’t trust God. Not because I don’t love Him. But because I’m a mom. I worry. I stress.

And preemie life isn’t “normal.” Their immune systems are fragile. Milestones are different. Your baby might be six months old by birthday but only two months adjusted. It’s hard to constantly shift your mindset and remind yourself that everything will be okay.

Many of us go through emergency C-sections too — adding another layer of trauma to heal from.

But overall…

The love I have felt with my baby girl home — even through the exhaustion, frustration, stress, and anxiety — nothing prepares you for how beautiful motherhood is. On the good days and even on the hard ones.

So be encouraged.

The Word tells us in First Epistle of Peter 5:7 to cast all our worries onto Him because He cares for us.

And in Gospel of Matthew 6:25, we are told not to worry about our life — what we will eat or drink, or about our bodies, or what we will wear.

That doesn’t mean we won’t feel worry. It means we don’t have to carry it alone.

If you are in the NICU right now:

Love on your baby every single day.

Pray over them. Speak life over them.

If your hospital has a Ronald McDonald House, take advantage of it.

If they have a book vending machine — use the coins.

If they offer the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, sign up. It’s such a gift.

The NICU community is beautiful.

And don’t forget to advocate for your baby. If something doesn’t feel right, speak up. You have that right. If you need a different nurse or have questions for the doctors, ask them. No one will fight harder for your baby than you.

Most of all, know this:

The Lord is with you. He will not forsake you.

I pray my experience encourages you. I’ve felt the guilt, the fear, the exhaustion. And I promise you — it will be okay.

February 26th — 11:00 PM

I was trying to play video games when Nova started getting fussy. I figured she just needed a change and a feeding, so I took care of both, hoping it would calm her down. It didn’t. Instead, it got worse.

As she cried harder, I knew deep down she was just tired—fighting her sleep. This stage is new, and I remind myself it’s only temporary.

But in that moment, I could feel everything building—postpartum emotions, overstimulation, exhaustion—all piling on at once. My skin felt like it was crawling, every sound sharper than it should be. It’s a feeling that’s almost impossible to describe. And as her cries continued, I felt anger rising… fast.

I picked her up too quickly, out of frustration, and rushed her to the bedroom.

First, I swaddled her and gave her the pacifier. She screamed. Then I tried a tighter, hospital-style swaddle. Still screaming. Finally, I wrapped her in a smaller swaddle—snug and secure—and gave her the pacifier again. She fussed… and then, finally, she settled.

I waited five minutes before quietly walking away.

Postpartum anger isn’t talked about enough.

Too often, it’s brushed off. People say things like, “You’re just being dramatic,” or “Just pray more and it’ll go away.” And while I do believe prayer helps—deeply—in those overwhelming moments, the feelings are still there, pressing hard against the surface.

What we really need in those moments is support. Prayer, yes—but also understanding, encouragement, and sometimes just someone to step in and help.

Motherhood is not a side job. It’s 24/7. It doesn’t pause. It doesn’t clock out. And the constant stimulation can leave you feeling completely drained.

Tonight, my emotions got the best of me for a moment. The screaming hit something in my brain the wrong way, and I reacted out of that frustration. But I also recognize this: I handled it better than I have before. I stayed more aware, more controlled, and I kept trying until something worked.

And that matters.

If you’re dealing with this too—please hear this:

You are not a bad person. You are not a bad mom.

Anger is something many of us struggle with. Some more than others. And just because your baby is “just a baby” doesn’t mean your feelings aren’t real. We already know they’re little—we just don’t always know how to handle the overwhelming emotions that come with caring for them.

What matters most is how we choose to respond.

Scriptures to hold onto:

“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.” — Proverbs 14:29

“But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.” — Colossians 3:8

“Refrain from anger and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.” — Psalm 37:8

“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” — James 1:19–20

A prayer for these moments:

Dear Abba Father, I am struggling with anger, and I don’t like how it makes me feel or act. Lord, please help me to control it each time it rises up in me. Teach me to pause, to breathe, and to respond with patience instead of frustration. When overwhelming moments come, calm my body and steady my heart. Help me not to be led by my flesh, but to walk in Your peace. Forgive me for the ways I’ve reacted, and gently shape me into who You’ve called me to be. Remove this burden and replace it with Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Motherhood Didn’t Take Me—It Expanded Me

Mothers.

Some of us have babies. Some of us are fur moms. Some are stepmoms, adoptive moms. Maybe you’re a “church mom” to kids who have no one. Maybe you’re raising your siblings.

Whatever the case is—you are influencing someone.

But somewhere along the way, people start saying things…

“That’s all you are now.” “Your identity isn’t yours anymore.” “You can’t enjoy life like you used to.”

And if we’re being honest… Sometimes it starts to feel true.

But here’s the truth:

Yes—we became moms.

But before that, we were daughters. Sisters. Friends.

We were creators, dreamers, and builders.

We were crocheters, gamers, crafters, dancers, singers. Book readers, teachers, photographers, writers. Lawyers, cashiers, engineers, welders, designers. Business owners, ministry leaders, artists.

And those parts of us didn’t disappear.

God placed those gifts inside of us on purpose.

Motherhood didn’t erase them. It didn’t cancel them.

It expanded them.

Motherhood is beautiful. It’s powerful. It’s unlike anything else.

But it’s also hard.

And sometimes… it’s lonely.

Especially when people stop inviting you. When they assume you “can’t” anymore. When they quietly decide your life is now limited.

I feel that. I live that.

I’ve been told:

“You can’t take photos anymore—you’re a mom now.”

“Your desires don’t matter like they used to.”

“Your passion is motherhood, not your hobbies.”

“You won’t have time to write—you’re not an author anymore.”

“Stop being selfish—it’s not about you now.”

But let me say this clearly:

Those are lies.

Your passions don’t disappear. Your calling doesn’t expire. And society does not get to define your life.

God does.

And the dreams inside of you? They’re not random. They’re connected to your purpose.

Surround yourself with people who will carry you closer to God—not further from who you’re called to be.

Like the man in Bible Mark 2:1–12—who had friends willing to tear through a roof just to get him to Jesus Christ.

Find those kinds of people. Find moms who understand the highs and the lows. Who support your dreams—not silence them.

And hear this—really hear this:

You can be a mom AND still enjoy your life.

I’ll say it again:

You can be a mom AND still enjoy your life.

So pick it back up.

Pick up that crochet hook. Pick up that book. Write your story. Go back to work. Start the business. Make the art. Play the game. Sing the song. Dance again. Build strength—in your body and your spirit.

You didn’t lose yourself.

You’re still in there.

And above everything else—don’t forget who you are in God.

You are a new creation

You are chosen

You are redeemed

You are free

You are created with purpose

The Word reminds us:

“For you formed my inward parts… I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:13–14 “So God created mankind in His own image…” — Genesis 1:27 “For we are God’s handiwork…” — Ephesians 2:10

You belong to Him.

And your gifts? They matter—far more than people’s opinions ever will.

Motherhood didn’t take your identity.

It revealed how much you were always capable of carrying. 💛

When I think back to my high school years, I remember what it felt like to be overlooked… unloved… and, honestly, made fun of. I never really felt seen.

Everything started to change after my junior year—when I found Jesus Christ.

In some ways, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I found real faith. I found a church. I found a community. I found hope—and something deeper than anything I had ever known before.

But at the same time… everything got harder.

As I began to change, I started losing people. Friends I once laughed with began to drift away. Some didn’t understand me anymore. Others didn’t try to.

I remember bringing my Bible to class, trying to quietly read, trying to grow… and feeling eyes on me. The looks. The whispers. The laughs.

“Jesus freak.”

That’s what they called me.

I became a joke. Something to talk about. Something to point at.

And slowly, it started to get in my head.

I questioned everything.

Did I make the wrong choice?

Was I going too far?

Was something wrong with me?

At times, it felt like everything around me was falling apart—like I had stepped into a storm I didn’t know how to survive. I felt exposed, confused, and honestly… hurt.

I would go to God and ask,

“Why is this happening?

Aren’t You supposed to protect me?”

What I didn’t understand then was this:

Sometimes following Him doesn’t make life easier—it makes it real.

And real faith will set you apart.

But even though all of that was real… so was what God did next.

In return, He blessed me with more than I could’ve imagined—triple the friends, triple the leadership, and a strength I didn’t know I had. I found people who lifted me up instead of tearing me down. Real community. Real love.

Over time, I began to discover my gifts and my calling.

God didn’t just change my surroundings—He changed me.

I walked away from a homosexual lifestyle.

Depression lost its grip.

Anxiety no longer controlled me.

Weight lifted—physically and spiritually—and for the first time in a long time… I could breathe.

The darkness didn’t stand a chance. Light came in and stayed.

Through Jesus Christ, I found freedom—from sin, from shame, from everything that once held me down.

And through every painful moment… every trial… every tear…

He saw me through it all.

He never left.

He never walked away.

He never gave up on me.

Not once.

Even when I was young, even when I didn’t fully understand—God was working miracles in my life.

And what’s crazy is this:

Those moments I was made fun of for reading my Bible at school?

They didn’t go to waste.

They planted seeds.

I inspired others—without even realizing it—to stand up in their faith too.

So if you’re in high school or college and trying to follow God…

Don’t be afraid. Stand firm.

Don’t shrink back just because people don’t understand you. Don’t let classmates, teachers, or culture pressure you into hiding your faith.

Yes—it’s hard.

But Jesus never said it would be easy.

In Bible John 16:33, He says:

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

And in John 15:18:

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.”

So if you feel alone… misunderstood… or even rejected for your faith—

You’re not alone.
