Venture out to see Roger. He is not in great shape but is walking without a cane. That's some progress.
The big news today is Trump's having made an ass of himself on "Meet the Press." He throws down the lavaliere mic and steps on it, as one might step on a bug. Before his awkward exit he was spewing a lot of nonsense...about Jan 6 and rigged elections and such.
There is a lot of his term left. He can do a lot of damage. Sad that America is celebration a 250th birthday with this guy sitting in the Oval Office. And...Trump's 80th birthday coming up.
Trump's insistence on coming to the basketball game at Madison Square Garden inconveniences a lot of fans. Security heightened, etc.
I walk up to 79th to see Wally. He is not doing so well. He tells me he is 92. His sight has failed him. We hang out for a while. Listen to some music.
Note: More about Hegseth's disastrous speech to the veterans at D Day Ceremony. The worst possible choice to speak at this occasion, he compares the Nazis landing on French shores to the invasion of immigrants. For some of these men it will be their last visit to the site. And...many of the young men who died here were the sons of immigrants. How horrible that Hegseth had to ruin this for them.
Evening. Trump shows up at the Garden. His granddaughter is with him. Is Ms. Harp part of the entourage? What a fool. He is booed loudly during the National Anthem. He takes a seat next to Jim Dolan (creep; poor little rich boy) and falls asleep.
Spurs beat the Knicks. It's been a long time since I watched basketball. Quite fun.
Note: Now some question re the legality of that UFC fight to be held on the White House Lawn. I hope it is canceled. That horrible monstrosity, called the Claw, where the men are supposed to have their contest, looms there on the White House lawn, giving the area an amusement park look.
Beautiful weather continues.
An early morning call from Dan Block. For a while we talk about the music business. He is one of the finest musicians in the city, but things are never easy for him. He is contemplating subbing, on B'way, for one of his students. (What a downer.) I am so glad I don't have to worry about this sort of thing anymore. The politics, the shmoozing...OMG.
On the Spectrum music channel. A symphony by Weinberg's whose music always sounds like that of his mentor, Shostakovich.
Pleasant morning but we are warned that a heat wave is coming. Damn.
Later: Rehearsal. Okay but becoming increasingly less fun. I am the oldest person on the stage.
Big News: Later...The Knicks come back and win the game...by one point. They were twenty nine points behind. Sitting at home I hear cheering and such. The last time the Knicks won the championship was '73 (Kenichi was two years old.)
