The International Buster Keaton Society, in conjunction with award-winning producer and director Paul E. Gierucki, is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a sneak preview of CineMuseum LLC’s upcoming Blu-Ray series, "The Arbuckle Anthology," with the world re-premiere of silent film comedian Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle’s “lost” feature-length comedy, "Gasoline Gus!" This historic, one-time event will take place during the 30th annual Buster Keaton convention in Muskegon, Michigan, on Friday, October 2, 2026!
"Gasoline Gus" was released by Paramount Pictures on August 20, 1921. Unfortunately, just weeks after the debut, Arbuckle was swept up in a scandal surrounding the death of actress Virginia Rappe. Exhibitors quickly pulled the film from theaters, and it was ultimately withdrawn from distribution. Despite Roscoe Arbuckle’s complete acquittal in the matter, with a public apology from the jury, the film was never shown again in the United States. Over time, it was believed that the original negatives were destroyed and all other prints of the film were lost—until a single incomplete projection print was discovered in the holdings of the Gosfilmofond Archive in the USSR. The film has since been acquired and reconstructed by CineMuseum LLC for inclusion in its long-awaited home video series featuring some of Arbuckle’s best works. This will be the first time since the 1920s that this film will be screened for the general public.
