I got this objective from a secondhand store yesterday! I've had my camera for maybe 12 years or so and I had never actually bought another objective (I only used the 18-55 that it came with) and I really really wanted to buy a tele. And since we have a total fucking eclipse coming up soon I thought why the heck not???

Actually... I bought it kinda on an impulse 😂 I was looking for this specific model yes, but I didn't have my camera with me so I couldn't confirm on the store if it was compatible and I didn't want to lose the chance since someone else could buy it while I waited for my camera.

My parents have the camera and are bringing it to me this afternoon so I can check. It should be compatible, I've checked the model, but I'd like to confirm it

I've also read that this specific objective has issues with chromatic aberration (because it's a cheap one) and doesn't have stabilizer, but not an issue for me for that prize tbh. I'll use it with a tripode anyway

Okay the objective is compatible with my camera, but I've already seen some limitations. It has issues with autofocus that I don't know if it's due to low light conditions (I didn't have time to try it outdoors yet, I'm trying that today)

Manual focus works okay, but then sometimes it throws an Error 01 that is apparently common for this objective. I'm tracking this because it seems it depends on the lens lenght that I'm using (at 70mm seems to throw the error often, at 300mm it works fine). So I don't know if it's probably a wire or if there is anything in configuration that I'm missing, because I don't really know that much about cameras 🫠

But for that price and in such short time, I cannot complain. I'll be trying it outdoors today, but for tests for the sun I'll have to wait at least until friday, because my solar filter arrives by then

Dirt inside lens 🫠 I'll have to take it to a repair shop for them to clean it, but I doubt it can be done before the eclipse...

Ok so roads are important infrastructure. A lot of stuff that's important happens on roads. Now, let's imagine that quadrillionaire Matt Stench has decided that the next big tech innovation is the Wide Car. It's a car that takes up six lanes despite seating only one passenger.

The Wide Car is supposed to be the future, and everyone's going to be driving Wide Cars, even though nobody who makes Wide Cars is turning a profit. Employers are offering Wide Cars as an employee benefit, and getting "nah." Some employers are going as far as demanding their employees drive Wide Cars, and the result is that people take time out of their workdays to get in the mandatory gas usage for their Wide Car before driving home in a regular car.

In spite of the fact that the Wide Car is clearly set to fail, there's an enormous push to expand to twelve-lane roads to accommodate a bunch of Wide Cars that simply will not materialize. This is not an organic response to demand, but a speculative investment that amplifies the existing issues with road development for no good reason.

That is the problem.
