days like dreams

they stacked me with old books & left me alone

so I sat on the front porch of someone else’s home

& I read to the flowers, although they’d called them weeds

they criticized my stories all the same

sever your never ending want to endeavor

& follow past footstep you took to remember

impossibly, while flocks like these

hear a louder silence through seas of red trees

it woke me late enough to see

the mold of my old soul taunting me

if you wash your hands with mud, like me

they won't ever come clean

cut me 

carry me inside

fill that old jar

with city water

that tastes like old pipes

place me on the table

without light I crave

but just enough to keep me

pretty for a while
