Budget Friendly Kitchen Makeover
In this budget friendly kitchen makeover, we’ll show you how to transform your kitchen on a budget and get the look of a brand new kitchen that WON’T cost you thousands of dollars.
Below, you can see what the kitchen looked like before the makeover. Dull white cabinets and a blue worn down countertop.
Above, you can see the amazing transformation! We especially liked the two tone colors that added custom look to the kitchen. The countertop was in much need of a makeover and the marble used on the countertops really brightened up the kitchen.
Here’s how we did it!
Supplies
Ruler (ours has a leveler :)
d-c-fix® Whitewood, Blackwood, Metallic Brush Silver, and Marble Gray
Cloth to clean the cabinets and countertops
Spray with soapy water or cleaner to clean surfaces before application
Pen or Pencil for marking while measuring
Craft knife
Screwdriver
Measuring tape
Smoother
Scissors
Before you start make sure to thoroughly clean all of the counters and set up a table top or workspace where you can cut the material. A rotary or cutting mat is always helpful.
Step 1 Remove kitchen cabinets and hardware
We chose to remove the cabinets but it is not always necessary. If you are only covering the face of the cabinet versus wrapping it there is no need to remove the cabinet.
Step 2 - Clean cabinets and countertops
TIP: Make sure all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned for the best application.
Step 3 - Measure
Measure the widths and heights of each door with 1/4 in. on each side for trimming.
Step 4 - Peel & Stick
TIP: Peel back about an inch of the backing paper and fold. Once you have placed the sticky side on the surface use the smoother tool and as you go slowly remove the backing paper.
Step 5 - Smooth
Smooth the self adhesive film onto the cabinet and pull down the backing paper as you continue to smooth.
Step 6 - Trim
Trim the excess materials on each side of the cabinet doors for the perfect finishing touch.
Step 7 - The Countertop
It’s best to start from one side of the countertop for a continuous run of material. Measure from where you start to where the kitchen sink is and give another inch or so and begin to cut out where the sink will be. The extra inch is for trimming purposes to make sure you wrap around the edge of the sink. Don’t worry if its not perfect! If you mess up simply peel it back and reposition.
Step 8 - The Backsplash
All you will need to do is follow the instructions above. Peel, stick, and smooth! Trim any excess material and voila! It’s that easy! Remember, if you happen to stick it on and its a bit off angle you can simply pull is back and reposition.
Step 9 - Finishing Touches
Look at the difference in color!! The whitewood will surely brighten up your kitchen! Make sure to add the hardware to the cabinets for the finished look!
Once your cabinets are back in place and hardware installed take a step back and enjoy your newly transformed kitchen!
No paint mess or waiting around for coats to dry or set! A simple and inexpensive do-it yourself project!
