When is the next meeting?
In 1774 the British intolerable acts and a British blockade of the colonies prompted Ben Franklin to arrange a meeting between delegates of the original 13 colonies. Georgia didn't make the first meeting in 74'. But they were able to organize a boycott, and collectively respond to the British Parliament. Two years later the second continental congress would spark what would be the war of independence and the world stage hasn't been quite the same since.
When is Christendom's continental congress? When do our leaders, even in this country. get together and collectively make decisions? Is such a comparable task feasible? Sans legislative authority could any change made make a difference? I suggest that if the right people were there, in the right committees, with the right guidance with well established goals, we may see genius produced. Lock up the best Spirit filled leaders, authors, preachers, athletes, and martial arts expert in the same room and produce results. I think the closest facsimile I have seen to this was focus on the family in the 1990's. No offense to their great work but their answer to the Ninja Turtles was MacGee and me. We may need something more felicitous.
Do you think it would do any good? Here are a few random ideas to get you started. 1.) Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum lead a standing committee on politics, With the goal of helping people make differences in their communities with and without the aid of Government. I'd like to see an action plan for legislative reform that deals with actual heart issues as opposed to just peripheral political talking points. Specifically, i'd like answers to the following questions: a.) Should America hang up the badge and abandon its role as policeman? b.) What was the effectiveness of GWB's compassionate conservative campaign? Can we bring it back or perhaps make it better? c.) Is small or big government what is best for the people? 2.) The leaders of every major pro-life group to sit down and come up with a strategic mission with rules of engagement that show proven and effective results in deterring abortion minded women from entering the clinics. Get rid of the gore and the cussing. I shouldn't walk down a street and wonder why my side of the argument is holding signs up that would give Freddy Kruger nightmares. 3.) The leaders in Christian Media that are making a difference particularly Chuck Norris and Kirk Cameron. I would like to see them come up with a definitive strategy to stop Nicholas Cage from borrowing roles from Kirk Cameron without first rebooting growing pains. Chuck Norris could round house kick everyone into making this happen. 4.) I would like to see a veggie tales version of the usual suspects, to include Mr. Lunt as Kaiser Soze.
4a.) I would also like to see a terminator 2 version featuring Larry as the T-800 and a piece of Tofu as the T-1000 5.) Most importantly to echo the sentiments of Os Guinness I would see a return to civility. I would see us over come mocking, shaming, and belittling the people making the other side of the argument. It is difficult for me to imagine good or feel anything but contempt for the spokespeople of weakness and slavery. There are suffering people in this world, some people are making this suffering worse. We don't have to be among them. If we can truly dig down and love our enemies, with the same compassion Christ has for us we will know victory, for if no other reason hate pales in comparison to love. On a practical level, how can someone long hate someone who genuinely loves them and wants what is best for them? If we have no respect for our enemies how can we defeat them?
Who would you want to see at such a meeting? What topics could they address? -The Cap
