007. heirloom pain — ramen therapy
three knocks hit the front door which immediately made y/n put her phone down. internally panicking after she sent her friends last minute texts before sohee arrived at her front door. putting on her fuzzy bunny slippers, she walked towards her front door and opened it to see sohee standing there with a smile on his face and matcha in both hands.
“sohee hi! come in,” she spoke before widening the door motioning for the boy to come in.
he stepped in through the front door and slid his shoes off, before following behind her, “thanks for inviting me over again yn! just let me know when you want to focus on your studying and i can always go,” sohee spoke
y/n shook her head and smiled, “no need! you wouldn’t be bothering me at all! if anything you’re helping me stay sane because i have so much to study,” she replied before looking at the matcha in sohee’s hands, “oh my goodness that matcha looks so heavenly, wait is there a pink bow on it?”
sohee chuckled, “yeah they were having this event at this matcha place my friend recommended, i thought you would like it,” he spoke as he handed it to her seeing how her eyes lit up at the delicious green beverage
“thank you so much again!! you really did not need to get me this! i told you i didn’t mind making your drink seriously,” y/n said as she held the drink in her hand admiring it
“no no, i insisted anyways, and it’s the least i could’ve done! i owe you for last time too! the sandwich was not enough,” sohee replied smiling at the girl in front of him
“okay well, shall we make some ramen? i’m in dire need of food after studying already” y/n suggested after taking a quick picture of her drink
the boy nodded in agreement before they headed off and started making their meal.
y/n started off by grabbing the ramen pot from her cabinet and putting warm water in it before setting it on the stovetop. she turned on the heat and turned to sohee, “which ramen do you want, shin red or jin ramen?”
“hmmm, whatever you prefer, i like them both honestly” he replied
the girl hummed in agreement, “okay, i’ll just randomly pick then cause i feel the same way,” she spoke before opening one of the ramen packs and putting the seasoning in the water first.
“soooo should i ask more about the backstory of why you work so hard or,” sohee asked before taking a sip of his matcha, leaning against the kitchen counter in front of the girl, “and i’m trying to asking in the least awkward way possible i swear, i just want to let you know i’m here for you and i’m willing to listen,” he rambled
y/n smiled before she turned around to face him, “well i mean there’s not much to it i feel like. just my inner thoughts and overthinking mainly, but have you ever felt like you’re constantly living in the shadow of someone else?” she replied before turning back around to quickly put the ramen noodle block in the pot
“hmm, i’m not sure if i can personally fully relate to that, but i do have an older sister who i feel like is doing way better than me all the time,” sohee responded before walking up closer to y/n and the stove top, “this smells so good i didn’t even realize how hungry i got,” he added on as he looked at the ramen that was simmering
“oh yeah i definitely get that feeling because of my older brother, he’s always been the favorite. even if my parents have never outright said it, i can always feel it. he was always the best growing up and i always tried to catch up by excelling in my studies but, my parents always favored him,” y/n spoke as she mixed the ramen around with her chopsticks, “i always thought it was interesting too how my parents favored my brother especially since he was good at extracurriculars, don’t even get me started on his dancing,”
sohee looked at the girl next to him, “you have a brother? i didn’t know,” he spoke
“yeah he’s like a couple years older than me, but he also goes to smu. you might know him actually, he’s an exercise science major,” she replied before grabbing a spoonful of the ramen broth and brought it towards sohee, “want a taste to see if its fine?”
the boy blew on it before taking a sip from the spoon, “mm it’s good to me!” sohee spoke before looking at y/n again, “yeah maybe i might know him. but regardless i’m sorry that you feel that way and have constantly felt that way around your brother. you don’t deserve that, you’re such an amazing girl,”
y/n smiled, “thank you sohee, it means a lot to me hearing that,”
“of course y/n, you really are amazing and i hope you never forget that,” sohee said while smiling back at her
