'While You Were Sleeping' Release Date, Plot, Cast News: Series to Feature Lee Jong-Suk, Bae Suzy
Park Hye-Ryun offers another romance-fantasy series with "While You Were Sleeping" to be aired on SBS every Wednesday and Thursday starting September. The Oh Choong-Hwan-helmed TV show is a co-production between Jung Hoon-Tak and Hwang Ki-Yong.
It is a love story between Jung Jae-Chan, played by Lee Jong-Suk, and Nam Hong-Joo, played by Bae Suzy. Jae-Chan is a prosecutor who does everything to thwart Hong-Joo's dreams of becoming real. Hong-Joo is dumb and lacks energy but has a happy disposition. She idolizes Jae-Chan and believes in his abilities as a prosecutor.
The cast of characters also includes Jung Hae-In (as Han Woo-Tak), Lee Sang-Yeob (as Lee Yoo-Bum), Ko Sung-Hee (as Shin Hee-Min), Shin Jae-Ha, Kim Min-Jae, Min Sung-Wook (as Lee Ji-Kwang), Park Jin-Joo and Kim So-Hyun in a cameo role.
This is the first time that Bae Suzy and Lee Jong-Suk will work together, as reported by Hellokpop. Their chemistry has yet to be tested if indeed they can make another romantic team like Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo in "Descendants of the Sun."
This is also the comeback vehicle of Lee after "W — Two Worlds." Meanwhile, the strong production team headed by Park Hye-Ryun is behind the new South Korean TV drama. Park has already worked with Lee Min Ho's girlfriend in "Dream High." He also did a project with Lee Jong-Suk in "I Can Hear Your Voice." Oh Choong-Hwan directed a very popular drama for SBS titled "My Love from the Star."
According to Soompi, Suzy had her cherished long hair cut for the show. While filming the new drama, Suzy's boyfriend reportedly developed insecurity because of the perfect chemistry of his girlfriend and her lead man. The "Boys Over Flowers" actor was reportedly not at peace with Suzy working with Lee in "While You Were Sleeping" as the latter is still single.
Will Bae Suzy and Lee Jong-Suk fall for each other while working on the SBS drama? Only time will tell if Lee Min Ho still owns Suzy's heart after his two-year stint in the military. Production for "While You Were Sleeping" started in February and is expected to wrap up by the middle of June with ample time for its release in September.

Recently, it was revealed that the Lee Jong Suk and Suzy starrer is expected to be released in September, Korea Herald reported. "While You Were Asleep" will be a part of SBS' drama line-up for its Wednesday and Thursday primetime schedule.
Moreover, the "While You Were Asleep" cast and crew members will soon finish filming activities for the said SBS romantic suspense series. Meanwhile, Lee Jong Suk will play the prosecutor Jae Chan who will partner with Hong Joo to stop her premonitions from coming true.

Suzy And Lee Jong Suk’s Upcoming Pre-Produced Drama To Wrap Up Filming Soon
Suzy and Lee Jong Suk’s upcoming SBS pre-produced drama “While You Were Asleep” (tentative title) is wrapping up filming and preparing to air in September.
According to a source from the drama industry, the drama will air after “Into the New World” (tentative title), the follow up to “Suspicious Partner.” Because both of the previous dramas are 20-episode projects, “While You Were Asleep” will premiere late-September. On the other hand, “While You Were Asleep” will be a 16-episode project.
The source added, “We are currently in the last stages of filming. We encountered some delays after beginning to film in the beginning of the year, but we are planning on wrapping everything up by the middle of this month.”
To clarify any possible confusion, the source explained that “Temperature of Love” (tentative title), the drama that was previously reported to be the follow up to “Into the New World,” was moved to the Monday-Tuesday slot.
“While You Were Asleep” tells the story of a woman (Suzy) who can foresee adverse events through dreams and a prosecutor (Lee Jong Suk) who does everything he can to prevent those events from happening. It was written by Park Hye Ryun, the screenwriter of “Dream High,” “I Hear Your Voice,” “Pinocchio,” and more. As both actors have experience working with the screenwriter, many are looking forward to the synergy they will be creating this time around as well.
Lee Jong Suk’s character Jung Jae Chan is an emotionless and unsociable prosecutor. He always placed last in class during his middle school days, but he works hard to live up to his father’s expectations.
Suzy will take on the role of Nam Hong Joo, a jobless homebody who rarely leaves her house. Ever since she was little, events from her dreams happened in real life, making her always feel anxious. She considers it best to avoid the adverse events she foresaw in her dreams because she believes she can’t change them.

'Jade Lover' set for China broadcast, hopes for lifting Korean culture ban raised
BEIJING, May 17 (Yonhap) -- "Jade Lover," a TV series co-produced by South Korean and Chinese companies, has been approved for broadcast in China, informed sources said Wednesday, further raising prospects of Beijing lifting a blanket ban on South Korean culture products.
"'Jade Lover' has been confirmed for broadcast on several Internet platforms, including Tencent, and regional satellite networks in China," said a China-based source with deep knowledge in bilateral show business relations.
The fantasy romance series, starring South Korean actor Lee Jong-suk, was co-produced by South Korea's Wellmade Yedang and Hong Kong-based media group DMG.
"We're being asked a lot about 'Jade Lover' from people here," said the source, adding that the South Korean entertainment industry circle in China is waiting for Beijing to entirely lift the ban on South Korean culture products.
For the past year or so, China virtually banned South Korean cultural and entertainment products in protest of Seoul's decision to set up a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense battery on its soil.
Seoul says it is to better prepare itself from the ever-rising military threats posed by North Korea, but Beijing believes the THAAD system can be used to monitor its own military activities, thereby hampering regional peace and stability.
A comedy created by a South Korean TV producer based in China has also been reportedly green lit for broadcast this month, after being blocked from airing by regulators for months.
Earlier this week, news came that three original Korean musicals -- "Bballae," "My Bucket List," and "Vincent van Gogh" -- will soon open in China, raising hopes that China's recently shut door to South Korean entertainment products will finally open up again.
South Korea and China are seen as moving toward mending strained ties as exchanges and contacts in diverse areas have apparently been gaining traction since the inauguration of South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Lee Jong Suk, Suzy’s Drama ‘While You Were Asleep’ Promises To Delight Avid Kdrama Lovers
An upcoming SBS production that will feature the first-time drama pairing of Lee Jong Suk and Suzy is expected to capture the interest of avid Kdrama fans. Recently, a representative from the said South Korean network expressed confidence that the upcoming drama "While You Were Asleep" will be a hit series.
Lee Jong Suk and Suzy will soon make their small screen comeback in the SBS drama tentatively titled "While You Were Asleep." Taking a leaf out of the Kpop idol's earlier drama "Uncontrollably Fond," the upcoming series will be pre-produced with all the episodes filmed in advance. With the "W - Two Worlds" actor and Lee Min Ho's girlfriend currently busy filming scenes for the said drama, an SBS representative recently shared his thoughts about the series.
In a special press meeting, SBS representative Lee Yong Suk commented that Lee Jong Suk and Suzy's upcoming drama might soon become one of the most talked about TV productions. Despite not knowing the potential TV ratings for "While You Were Asleep," he gushed over the said drama and even described it as a great project, Korean news outlet My Daily quoted the representative as saying.
Highlighting the quality of the script, the expertise of the production staff and the acting prowess of the "While You Were Asleep" cast, Lee Yong Suk also gushed over the team's hard work. He even commented on how the first two episodes of Lee Jong Suk and Suzy's new drama looked great and that filming activities are progressing smoothly.
"While You Were Asleep" tells the story of the psychic Hong Joo who foresees bad things happening to people in her dreams with the rookie prosecutor Jae Chan trying to stop the said events from coming true. Suzy will portray Hong Joo, while Lee Jong Suk will play Jae Chan.
In other news, Suzy talked about her character in "While You Were Asleep" and described Hong Joo as a cheerful person who becomes a helpless young woman whenever she gets a glimpse of future bad events. The Kpop idol turned actress made the revelation during an interview with the magazine Dazed, as cited by Soompi, where she also gushed about her new shorter hair style.
"While You Were Asleep" is expected to premiere in September on SBS. New episodes will then be released every Wednesday and Thursday.
SBS seems confident that its upcoming drama “While You Were Asleep” (tentative title) will be a great project to look forward to.
During a dinner meeting with press, a representative from SBS, Lee Yong Suk, said, “I don’t know how the viewership ratings will be, but the work will certainly be something that is talked about.”
He said, “The combination of the video, staff, actors, and script are so great. We were watching the first and second episodes and it felt like a dream. We’ve filmed up to the sixth episode now and it’s turning out just fine.”
He complimented the actors as well, saying, “It feels like Lee Jong Suk found clothes that fit him. He’s not awkward and there’s nothing rough [about his acting]. Suzy also has stable acting. I personally praised her and told her, ‘good job.’ [The acting] won’t be a problem.”
Meanwhile, “While You Were Asleep” is a drama that tells the story of a woman who can foresee adverse events before they happen, as well as a prosecutor who tries to prevent those events from happening. It is set to air this September.
Did you watch Suk's tudou interview? What is he saying? I couldn t understand anything!!!
Yes I did! It was so cute watching him trying to speak in Chinese and I love his laughter.
It’s actually old interview stuff, not much new content.
He talked about what Pinocchio was about and what he thought about the role since he was usually surrounded by reporters. He said that he can relate to them and feels a little sad. They asked him why it was sad and he said that it’s because as a reporter there are some things which you can’t report but sometimes when you report the truth, people just overlook it. And he just went on and on about it and then he ended off with “What am I talking about?” LOL.
They asked what kind of characters he wants to try, and he said he wants to play a more manly character but he might not be able to pull that off with his appearance now. But manly doesn’t exactly have to be about the occupation, but rather the character of the person.
They asked about filming in China, and he said he received a couple of scripts but is now filming in Korea and he’ll think about it after that.
Then he talked about what he does in his free time, which essentially is just staying home and that he doesn’t think it’s a waste of time because it’s a good way for him to recharge.
Then it’s about how he’s receiving so much love and he said he’s thankful and shy because he isn’t the typical pretty boy. Then he talks about his ideal type which is someone he can learn from and it’ll be good if she’s pretty.
Then it was how he keeps his figure and he said it’s just the normal stuff like controlling diet. But he’ll just eat when he really wants to, and otherwise he’ll eat sweet potato, banana, chicken breast meat and salmon. And he exercises and he does the weights at the gym.
And he talks about his complexion and says that he’s just fairer and that his skin isn’t that good. (YEAH RIGHT TSK, his skin glowwws) he says he has sensitive skin and it gets affected by a lot of things like not enough sleep or when he is under a lot of stress and that when that happens he’ll not be able to take care of it well. He says that in the second half of the drama, his skin will become bad probably because of lack of sleep.
And he says that apart from work he doesn’t exactly have a very meaningful life so it is only when he works that he finds that he is living meaningfully.
When he talks about what his fans are to him, he said that he’s a bit more emotional lately and when he is on the way to meet fans, he is anticipating and looking forward to it but also a bit uncertain. He said that thinking of the many people who loves him makes him feel very excited.

Translator note: He sounds so absolutely adorable and young, also, a little more detail about his life before he joined the industry. I’m so thankful he decided to become an actor, because it almost seems like he could have just gone in another way… =___=

So cute you want to melt~ “Whipped Cream boy” Lee Jong Suk
It was 4pm when we began the interview. He was probably getting hungry, so when coffee and cookies were brought in, he broke out into a wide, innocent smile and said “Wa~”, before starting to dig into the food. Given that he is a hot model turned actor, one would imagine him to be cool and charismatic, yet when he eats, he is as adorable as a baby animal. No, he’s 185cm tall, so he’s hardly small. His shyness and way of speaking instigates your mothering instincts.
Actor Lee Jong Suk recently took part in the opening ceremony of a new HugoBOSS store. For the event, he participated in a red carpet event as well as a press conference.
As soon as he appeared, the press crowded around him in order to get an interview. However, an altercation arose between a Korean intern reporter at Hong Kong AP, Park Joo Won, and another Hong Kong entertainment reporter.
In the chaotic rush, the entertainment reporter accused Park Joo Won of pushing them, which Park Joo Won denied. Eventually, the entertainment reporter grew angry and insulted the intern. When the interview started, Park Joo Won was not given the opportunity to question the actor.
At the very end, Park Joo Won managed to shout a question in Korean about Lee Jong Suk’s next schedule. Lee Jong Suk was pleasantly surprised and answered, “Are you Korean?” However, the translator either ignored or missed the intern reporter’s question and took another reporter’s question instead.
Lee Jong Suk then pointed out that Park Joo Won had asked first and answered her question before leaving the event.
Park Joo Won said later, “It was a really upsetting day, but thanks to Lee Jong Suk, I gained strength. I am grateful to him and hope that only good things happen to him in the future.”
