Xiaomi Power Bank 5200mAh Review

On 20th of August 2014, Xiaomi announced that it will launched its Mi Power Bank (both the 5200mAh and 10400mAh) on the 29th of August 2014 (midday) at Lazada. So I bought it 6 days after the launch and came to me 4 days after (note: I'm from outside Metro Manila and shipping outside Metro will take 5-10 business days). It was a pretty fast confirmation and delivery!

Okay, so the power bank comes with a very small packaging. Taking a look inside the box, we have the power bank unit, micro-USB to USB cable and the user guide. That's it.

Output: 5.1V/1.5A

Size (LxWxH): 91 x 55 x 21.9mm

The Good

After testing the power bank for a week - charging my Nexus 5 - it has lived up to my expectations. It charges my phone quickly, even faster (a little bit) than its official charger. The 4 LED battery indicator lights up pretty well unlike those other LED indicators that will blind you. For its price, you're likely to expect it to have a crappy build, but it's not; it has the BEST build! Premium brushed aluminum body feels so good, plus the battery cells are made by LG and Samsung. And then there is the battery itself. It has a decent 5200mAh, for its price, best of its class. It can charge my Nexus 5 2 times before it dies out and needs to be charged again.

The Bad

The only downside that I have on this power bank is the sides of the aluminum body; it's sharp. I feel like it can cut through flesh if it hits with a decent speed. That is it, no more complaints and gripes on this power bank!

THE VERDICT

Xiaomi has made a power bank that competes with the higher/highest-end ones. In fact, they may even have won the competition here. For the price of their power bank, build quality and battery capacity, you really can't go wrong with your choice here. Sure there are higher-end and branded power banks that cost higher, but they are charging you for the premium just because of their brand name and some bits of added features. But looking at Xiaomi's, you can easily don't mind the added features of the higher-end power bank and just go for Xiaomi's.

Kudos to Xiaomi for creating a spectacular product!
