Imagine - Your friendship with Cody has been on the rocks ever since he got with a new girl. What you didn’t know was that he too showed up solo at that Blue Diamond Gala event...

The sun rays kissed the hillside and reached over to the outskirts of Elysian Park. Even though it only mildly blurred your vision to a certain extent, you couldn’t see anymore clearly around you. At times the light that the sun would project had split into separate rays and only highlighted the areas of your face and leave the rest of your body exposed to the darkness. It was that time of the day when evening faded into dusk only to be captivated completely- and inevitably by the darkness.
At least that is how you would describe your complex and complicated friendship with a certain professional baseball player. Ironically, home base used to inhabit the lonesome feelings which poisoned your mind.
Dismissing the negativity was always your specialty. But getting rid of it never was, neither were those complicated thoughts that could stain that white uniform of his red, and juxtapose the pantone shade of bblue alongside it. So when you found out those months ago through Instagram that your best friend, Cody, had a significant other red had became a familiar color to this day. It was everywhere, hiding in the vast of mixed yellow and orange in the far sun and on the lips of many women that attended the Annual Blue Diamond Gala event.
You liked to hide the red you wore, and today you casually flaunted those red bottoms of yours on a blue carpet. What could possibly go wrong?
“Congratulations, MK” you whispered into the hottest bat in the league, Matt Kemp, as he turned towards the source of the sound. Recognizing it was you, his laugh lines tugged at the corners of his pink lips into a toothy grin as he leaned into peck your cheek. “Its been a while, (Y/N).”
Most things dared to go past your head but little did it come to your attention that that certain baseball player was watching from a few yards away, his negativity matching yours as he dismissed it. You greeted other players old and new as well as a few A-listers before it was time to head into the stadium to get seated.
Before you were in the clear you just had to run into him.
“You know that dress is a recipe for disaster, (Y/N).” His hoarse vocals that felt so familiar even after all these months ringed in your ears and sent shivers down your bare back. You weakly smiled while your left eye shed a tear. “You’re one to talk in that getup, Bellinger.” Finding this new ambition, you turned to face him. The same tear left an invisible mark on your face. Months ago you would come to learn that the most painful scars are the ones that are naked to the eye, but felt by the soul. Silent, but louder than words.
“Ouch. Last time I recall, we weren’t on a last name basis (Y/L/N).” his right bushy eyebrow arched, despite all your pleas long ago for him to get them tamed. You usually weren’t as nostalgic as you were now, but looking at him surfaced many broken memories that you wished to forget. He faced away from you, afraid to look into your glossy eyes. You wondered if he felt the same way.
“And last time I recalled It wasn’t me who you gave attention to.” The simple yet snarky comment made Cody’s eyes fall to his shoes. Pooled with a mixture of emotions such as embarrassment, humiliation, pain, and beyond all he was frightened. Frightened at what you thought of him after all this time. His eyes swiftly locked onto those red bottoms of yours on the blue carpet. The corners of his lips lifted upwards making the crevices of his acne lines more visible.
“She’s out of the picture, (Y/N).” His complexion altered along with his eyes that longed for forgiveness but even a fool could see through his mask of happiness, and at the core was longing for you.
He was miserable without you.
This being news to you, your look softened. Before you got the chance to speak the announcer announced his name over the stadium and it was time for him to walk the carpet. You cautiously reached for his hand and oblivious to the talks, stares and whistles that echoed in your ears none of it compared to the volume of your heartbeat.
Thoughts and wholehearted feelings raced in both of your beautiful mind’s that powered your soul and unspoken love for one another. Before you knew it, everyone had gotten seated and during those countless announcements, the only thing on your mind were the feeling of your palms on his because it felt right.
Perhaps you didn’t now it then, but Cody also wore his red bottoms too on that blue carpet.
Little did you know that he was also comforted by the fact that you wore the ones that he had given you, and that matched his. After all, it has always been you. His number one.

I feel like I’m so extra with my writing but I like to try some original ideas that came across my mind so I hope you guys like this and didn’t find it as cringeworthy as I kinda did. If you guys want them to be longer or shorter or with more dialogue please say so.
