Did a report on pikas once. Pound for pound they are the loudest creature on earth. Adults can be heard for miles and donât get much bigger than this.

As pups, theyâre pretty easily tamed by humans due to having pack instincts. They imprint strongly on their owners and, at this size, squeak frequently and emit tickly little sonic barks when excited. Very unbalanced until they reach a certain age, as that back leg takes some getting used to!
As they grow they gain more stripes and control of their bio-luminescence and sonic frequencies. Thereâs been cases of rebels using them to hunt headcrabs, chumtoads, boids, and other small Xenian prey animals as a food source, though the majority of the Resistance sees aliens as pests in general. ))

⢠All Combine Adviors are Shuâulathoi purposefully kept in their larval state, a.k.a they are kept as children. When Shuâulathoi mature, they have the chance to mate, and lay eggs. However, once they lay their eggs, they die. The Combine canât risk losing such a powerful species due to reproduction.
⢠The world of the Shuâulathoi is hidden. BreenGrub mentions a âtheyâ that is apparently keeping it from being found, trying to keep it in a myth state of existence. He does not go into details if itâs the Shuâulathoi or the Combine hiding it, but he does say at some point he could communicate to the world before he out of nowhere lost the connection.
⢠Larval Shuâulathoi, also known as Grub, can be used as host bodies. Breen at the end of Half-Life 2 talked to an Advisor that suggested he lived outside of Earth. When saying he couldnât possibly survive being there, being he is a human and not an alien being, the Advisor tells him that heâs able to use a host body. From BreenGrub, he states that the host body he uses is a Shuâulathoi in its larval (Grub) state.
⢠Shuâulathoi apparently only cared about reproduction and continuous living. BreenGrub says â-the freest forms are mindless, rapacious, bent only on reproduction.â Rapacious meaning âgreedyâ. They constantly were mating and very bent on having their species go on for generations.
⢠Combine Advisors have âracial telepathyâ, meaning they constantly talk to each other through telepathy. That doesnât mean they canât telepathically talk to other beings, an Advisor was talking to Breen at the end of Half-Life 2 through telepathy.
⢠Shuâulathoi, before becoming Combine Advisors or even remotely coming in contact with Combine, were infected by a virus like being. The weakest of the Shuâulathoi were infected and could no longer reproduce, and the strongest, while infected, could live with the virus without much affects to hurt them. But even more before this, the species, while intelligent and bent on continuing for generation, cared about nothing outside of their world, not even caring about materials that came into their world most of the time. This may because they donât need them to survive.
⢠The virus that greatly affected the weaker Shuâulathoi caused them to abandon their culture and isolate their kin. But the species kept going for eons with the virus in their bloodstream, until a âtheyâ came after them, said on BreenGrub. It is not said who âtheyâ are, but the greater guess is the Combine, which probably have a separate name to them.
⢠BreenGrub states that the virus that corrupted the Shuâulathoi and destroyed their culture was mostly created by the âtheyâ that visited them eons afterwards. This would explain how easily they were able to do so. If this is so, and if the âtheyâ is the Combine, that means that taking over Earth mustâve been a life long plan.
⢠BreenGrub says that, at some point, Shuâulathoi were finally able to realize fully of what was happening to them, but it was too late by that moment.
⢠A Combine Advisor is able to take the minds of beings with higher intelligence, âthe finest mindsâ. Breen, while a villain, did have a very fine mind. His tweet, âLaszlo is here somewhere.â In Half-Life 2, in the SandTraps chapter, a rebel is attempting to save his friend, to which he days seconds later. The rebel then says âPoor Laszlo, the finest mind of his generation had come to such an end.â Combine Advisors take those with worthy minds, and stores them in host bodies.
⢠The copies of those consciences that they have collected can be copied multiple times. However, each time they do this, the consciences lose a piece of itself, and soon, if done long enough there will be no more of them left
⢠Matured Shuâulathoi, adults, actually possess the power to shapeshift, along with other abilities that can only be given to the grown up. This would mean that there could be some Shuâulathoi around, disguised as humans
⢠BreenGrub implicates that some Shuâulathoi were able to escape enslavement. Thereâs no doubt that they could attempting to get their revenge on the Combine for capturing and abusing the power of their children.
⢠The name Shuâulathoi is the name given to them by the Vortigaunts. However, it is not vortigaunt language. âShuuâ is a Japanese word meaning âDisciplineâ, and Lathoi is Greek for âMistakesâ. Iâm not certain as to what this name means or why it is the Vortigaunts that call them this, but it must have to do with a historical past.
