However, it's not a question of fear of being judged by others because, speaking for myself, I dont.

Wincest doesn't exist in canon, yet it can't be ignored that it's the show itself that winked its eye at the brothers having a relationship, Becky and the Supernatural books' 'fanfiction fansite', being only two of them.

This ask is old, but I've just found it.

I can't even say whether it's made in good faith or not. But I've decided to answer anyway.

In short? No evidence at all!

Wincest is a FANON ship.

Sam and Dean are canonically close. They chose to live with each other in canon. They chose to not have any lasting romantic relationship or live with someone else in canon. They chose to share everything with each other except for sex. They have sexual encounters with several woman, but it never goes much further than that when the other is around. That is canon. They love each other in six of the seven kinds of love. They do not, however, share eros in canon. They don't have sex. So if you take wincest in it's original meaning - Sam and Dean having a sexual relationship - then there's no evidence. Because it's a fanon ship. As every single wincest shipper I've met agrees on.

As for J2: there's no doubt that these two dearly love each other. Anyone with two eyes can see that. (Well, at least everyone who isn't too biased against one of the J's. But even those biased people have a hard time finding evidence against it. They usually think their beloved J is too good natured or dumb to realise that he is being "used" by their hated J and that's why they get along, but out of genuine love and friendship.) That being said, there is no evidence what that love exactly looks like. Seven kinds of love. Which ones they share? That's for them to know and us to speculate. I have my ideas and theories, but they are nothing more than that. Theories. I'll never be able to prove them. Nor will anyone else.

And that's OK.

Wincest is not about brothers fucking. It’s about two people who cannot live without each other. Who were always meant to be and will always be everything to the other.

Sam and Dean are soul mates, and when everyone else in their life is gone, they will be alone with each other. Forever. They will spend their afterlife in heaven together. This is canon.

Sam and Dean have not been able to manage a healthy relationship with other people because of their love for each other, because NOBODY who is truly in love with either of them would want to be their second choice. As much as people try to argue the contrary, when you love someone, they are your family. You should not be able to or have to choose between the person you spend the rest of your life with and your blood family. And make no mistake, Sam and Dean will always pick each other over anyone.

The thing about them is that I think some love transcends social barriers. It is an especially complicated love that is prioritized before everything else. You don’t need to bang somebody to know that there just isn’t a place for a romantic partner as long as you have them, and your friends and family all come bottom second to them.

Sam and Dean aren’t just brothers or friends or lovers or anything. The lines all blur together with them. They are two halves that come together to make one whole person. They will never be complete apart.

So yes, if you want to see them as lovers, that’s your call. I personally love reading the fic but I know it will never happen on screen. I’m okay with that because their bond is not about that for me. Wincest is just a name. Don’t miss out on this amazing relationship because you are hung up on a word.

Wincest is not canon on the show.

It is a fannish head canon.

Having eliminated the sex, though, what we witness on screen is not a normal sibling relationship.

They only see each other, even if they profess to care about those around them.

Their job is to fight evil and try to save people, which they do to the best of their ability, but in their hearts and souls, only Sam exists for Dean and only Dean for Sam.

That's the show, and that's why we love them. :)

Do you have any "must read" Sam fanfics? Like the ones that you feel like every Sam girl should read at one point in their lives..? I have seen this asked a lot in shipping blogs where they have some of the oldies fanfics that are like yk must be read if you ship them so I thought to ask if you have any..totally okay if you don't.

I do have a lot of fics that i feel every Sam girl should read, however, you mentioned 'if you ship them'. Are you looking for Sam fics that are revolved around ships? If yes, then my list may not work for you because more than ships, I am interested in reading Sam whump or case fics focused on Sam whump or Sam's psyche. But if that's still up your alley, here are my recommendations, with my comments in Italics within the brackets:

When Darkness Calls by bambers2: The hunters become the hunted when an elusive stalker sets his sights on the Winchester boys. Murder dogs their path, danger lurks in the most innocent of places, and there is nowhere to hide When Darkness Calls. (Like oh my god you need to read this because the suspense, the whump, the characters are soooo good and creepy!!!)

Whispers in the Dark by bambers2: Sequel to 'When Darkness Calls'. Dean had kept the secret for a year. He believed the danger had passed. They'd just begun rebuilding their lives, and then the phone rang . . . Charlie's back and this time he has supernatural abilites... (This has to be the epitome of fics on hiatus for too long. But i have waited and the writer did come back to finish it and it's so amazing!!!)

Destruction Trilogy by Winchester Mythology (previously Fiery Charizard)

Destruction Trilogy: Broken: Post Season 11. Dean gets back to the bunker to find a pool of blood and no Sam. Thus he begins the biggest hunt of his life. But as time moves on, Dean becomes more and more desperate. Sloppy. Will the hunter become the hunted? And what really happened to Sam? My take on the start of S12! Major S11 spoilers (Anyone who loved Toni torturing Sam in S12 will guaranteed looooove this trilogy.. oh my god, Sam whump is so delicious in this one!)

Or: a story of religious!Sam plus powers!Sam culminating in horrifying Sam whump (with eventual comfort to go with the hurt). A character study of the first two seasons that sharply diverges in season two (This one is graphic but so well done if you are not triggered by the themes)

Prophecy of an Abomination (Abridged): Sam is kidnapped by fanatically religious hunters and crucified. Coming back from this won't be easy. Canon-divergent from midway through season 2.

Getting Lower Ever Since by vail_kagami: While Castiel took Dean for a trip to the past, other angels took Sam for a somewhat different purpose. Dean is not amused. (One-shot but really good read)

Sanctuary by Cheryl W: When Dean's near misses with death start adding up, Sam is brutally reminded that there is no such thing as just having a bad day when you are a Winchester. No Slash. (Good ol' whump story)

Countdown to Destroy Yourself by SammysMissingShoe: "But that new day marked yet another sleepless night. He was at four now. That number haunted him, because as of that day, it meant, it he was lucky, he had at most- one week left to live. But when had Sam ever been lucky?" (Cage fic. These are so rare but so good)

Accidental Prayer by SammysMissingShoe: First he loses his brother, then he gets shot and kidnapped and tortured by Men and Women of Letters for information about his life. Today was a rough day for Sam Winchester. As you can expect, excessive hurt&tortured!Sam, based off of season twelve trailer and promotional pictures. Just my speculation/wishful thinking, I own nothing. (One shot for S012E01)

The Institute (Duology) by ephiny63

The Institute: The Winchester brothers fight anything Supernatural but what happens if the ones they are fighting are human. Taking psychics for experimentation at the Institute to find out how to harness their abilities. Can Dean save Sam? warnings inside R&R. (Interesting for a non-monster fic)

Institute Revisited with Extreme Prejudice: Sequel to The Institute Sloane manages to take Sam and replace his clone with the others. Can they find the real Sam before its too late? Hurt!SamX2, Original and Clone! Hurt!Dean. Mayhem ensues. Rated for violence and adult themes.

Come lay bones on the alabaster stones by caranfindel: A season 7 AU that takes place after Sam gets his memories of Hell back. At night, Sam dreams of being tortured in Hell. During the day, his dreams start coming true, except they're happening to other people. (Ohh this one is sooooo good and the twist was unexpected. LOVE THIS!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND)

tetelestai by remy (iamremy): Written for the Sam Winchester Prompt-a-Thon - the prompt is "crucifixion". The boy with the demon blood must be cleansed. (Another well done crucifixion fic)

12 Feet Under by Youremyalways: On a hunt that takes them to an abandoned mental Institution, Sam finds himself chained to the bottom of a cement tank with water rising by the second. Will Dean find him in time? (One-shot drowning fic)

Paint Me a Monster by TheMarvelousTolkienJob: Sam is a freak. He knows that and, after everything that happened with Ruby and the demon blood, Dean finally does too. Not that they actually talk about it or anything. No, they wait around for Sam to be kidnapped and tortured before they do that. (This got me hooked from the get-go! Loved the voicemail fix it)

Lastly, shameful promotion of my fics too in case you haven't read them. I mostly write lot of Sam Whump myself (no surprise there) but there might one-two fics that focus a little on relationships. I don't know, you can check it for yourself here!

Please do check the warnings and tags before proceeding. As I mentioned, I love reading Sam Whump/Torture fics and some of these go really graphic (including mine) and may not be everyone's cup of tea. If you are okay reading whump, these are really satisfying!
