picture books on Facebook.

Following on from last week with the task of hash tagging picture books on social media and seeing what appears, this week I did this task on Facebook and the results were very similar to tumblr with a variety of results appearing including tributes to children’s books that have been read, ads for selling books and pictures of front covers of picture books.

I believe the use of hash tagging on social media can be a great resource for children to use in school to research a topic covered in class, as it allows the students the opportunity to see the different results that appear from a single search, in saying this teachers would have to keep control of what is being searched to make sure it is appropriate and staying within the topic being taught.

In concluding I think through experience in doing this task that hash tagging is absolutely a viable alternative to research classroom based information which will only enhance the students technological skills for future tasks throughout their education.

#picturebooks

#picturebooks on tumblr provided many different headings, posts and images of various picture books. I guess what I gained from doing this task was the importance that pictures have when it comes to children and reading books, pictures allow children to follow along with the story when the words may become difficult to comprehend, it also allows the reader to put an image to the words the author has written which provides the reader with the opportunity to better grasp what the author is trying to say in words.

Aboriginal Resource.

After exploring the ABC website teaching resource, I came across the video of the aboriginal song contest 2017, this was both interesting and a great resource  for this topic as I believe students would enjoy having the opportunity to create their own song in relation to their land and culture. This could be a great task in relation to an aboriginal text being “The Barrumbi Kids” by Leonie Norington.

World vision

Part one: On a cold transparent night, a boy died who laid in a hollow drain in silence in desperate need of food, with no strength.

Part two: Society has no remorse for the less fortunate!

Part three: A frontloading activity I would use for this topic would be showing the class a video from the world vision website of a third world country where children go without food and water on a daily basis, after watching the video hold a discussion with the students asking them how the video made them feel, what emotions did they feel, what lifestyle did children have, would they trade places with the children in the video?

Good/Bad Content!

I was not on placement this week, so I will discuss my idea of what is good/unhelpful content in the classroom, I believe good content is resources that can be of assistance to students to aid them in further development weather that be words that are having trouble with, sentence starters that will improve their writing or even work that they have completed that displays good understanding of a task or skill taught.

On the other hand unhelpful classroom content is the complete opposite resources that provide no assistance in student growth and development or displays of children’s work that does not display good understanding of a task of skill taught which may in turn embarrass the student whose work it is.

Multi literacies

In the last week I have viewed text in a number of ways these included: Facebook where I communicated with friends and family from overseas, I read the Herald Sun newspaper where I caught up on what is happening in the world, I have read numerous emails, text messaged friends and family on my phone and read some books in my free time over the weekend.

The last placement I was on my mentor teacher believed in having inspirational and education pieces around the classroom so that students have the best opportunity to learn and gain inspiration when in time of need! I personally thought this was a great idea not only for the fact that it helped the students though it also made the classroom look like a great environment to be walk into it!

Here is my Poster I believe it delivers a strong message and prompts students to think about the statement a little!

ECL 310 2017 prompt 1

When I was 5 years old I remember my mum bought a book home from the shops, It was called “Guess how much I love you” by Sam McBratney it had two rabbits on the front cover. As soon as I saw this book I fell in love with it and asked my mum to read it to me, that night she did and since that day I have never forgotten that moment or that book as it we a beautiful moment I shared with my mum. I have recently found the book again and will pass it down to my children so that it may hopefully bring them the same joy as it did me!

This week we are still using the hashtag #picturebooks

Your task this week is to do a search using the hashtag, in another social media platform. Can you search Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and other platforms using the #picturebooks hashtag.

Make a  comparison with last weeks results, tell us what  you have found.

Reflect on whether or not you could use the hashtag to research something related to what your class is doing. Can you unlock a whole world of information to help your class become researchers using online information? Could your class hashtag #sustainability #palmoilfree #poverty 

Is the hashtag a viable alternative to do doing classroom based research via Wikipedia, on-line encyclopaedia’s, and designated websites found with a google search?

I searched #picturebooks on Instagram and found different to tumblr where a lot of the posts were from authors trying to get there books noticed Instagram posts were mainly of people's favourite picture books or ones they read to their children!

I believe the use of hashtags can be a good resource to use in the classroom as long as they are closely monitored by the teacher as some topics can provide some graphic and confronting images that students should not be made aware of such as poverty.

Week 1 reflection

In grade 4 my teacher would read the class the book called the rainbow fish I fell in love with this book after that day and begged my mum to buy it for me and after all these years still use that book to read to students while on my placements
