Metallica photographed outside of Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California.
June 13, 1986 on the Ultimate Sin tour w/ Ozzy Osbourne.
© Mark Weiss
Weiss said about the photoshoot:
"Whenever I would go on tour with Ozzy, I would shoot the opener. I developed a relationship with Metallica this way. When I arrived at the Long Beach Arena at sound check on June 13 - the first day of three shows at the Arena during Ozzy's Ultimate Sin tour - I saw Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield skateboarding outside the backstage area. I gathered Lars Ulrich and Cliff Burton and took a bunch of photos around the arena. They weren't into doing photoshoots, so I made it casual. Metallica released Master of Puppets a few months earlier - magazines wanted photos and I was there to deliver. But Lars later jumped from his balcony into the hotel pool, which resulted in an ankle fracture and needed to be bandaged up for the show that night."
