The blast from the past brought a smile to the heretic’s face. At least, that was the plan – to make it look like he was beaming at his past accomplishments. If anything, he couldn’t care less what the elder Salvatore had to say about them. “You really think I’m left empty handed…” he mused, mocked disbelief in his quiet tone. “Out of prison world three.. an entire town eating out of my hands. My actual dream girl.” There was something hidden in his gaze. “I think you’re leaving out the good stuff on purpose, Damon.”
“I never said you were empty handed, I said you were boring. Major difference.” The Salvatore had found a way to contain his anger up until that point in the form of insults and jeers with the help of a little liquid courage. That liquid courage had gotten him through the past few months, needing it almost as much as he needed air. Unfortunately, that liquid courage took away any ambition he’d had, so when the heretic pushed him, he pushed back.
“Look, since you conveniently forgot the last thirty years, let me spell them out for you, Kai.” was how he started, downing his glass and turning his full attention to the Gemini. “You were let out of the prison world to do a job, and for whatever reason, we left you out, and I left your head attached to your body because I was so excited to have my girlfriend back.” That, and the fact that he couldn’t simply rip his head off with ease anymore. His options for retribution had been limited, but he’d let it slide to focus on how happy he’s been. A lot of good that had done him.
“And then you moped around town while your countless recently undead relatives scattered to get away from you, even though you weren’t much of a threat anymore. Maybe you were just happy to be free of hell, or the prison world, whatever it was, you were less annoying than usual, and that’s all I really cared about.” He’d had two years ignoring the siphoner’s existence and living the life he’d waited seven years for, and it was perfect until it wasn’t. Was it his fault, or hers? What would his life had looked like if things hadn’t changed? None of it mattered anymore.
“Elena and I broke up, you shacked up with her, and we had to tolerate all while you worked as a glorified store manager in rinky dinky Mystic Falls. That’s what you got, Kai. Not an entire town eating out of your hands, maybe a dream girl, but you ended up in a dead-end town, with a dead-end job, with only a small fraction of your family that gave a damn about you.” Now he’s laughing, maybe at the absurdity of it all, maybe at himself for thinking the heretic cared about any of it, but he was too far in now.
“And now? The way I look at it, things aren’t exactly on the up and up for you either. Your family still hates you, I think you even lost the few people that did care about you, so now you’re latching on to the one person who you think cares about you, and you can’t even do that right. You got Bonnie killed, turned into a vampire, which, if you actually knew her instead of just fucking her, or having survivors guilt, or whatever, you’d know she never wanted this life. And maybe she’s doing it for the kids, or her friends, or for you, but just know, one day, eventually, she’s going to crack. She’s going to hate her life, and that’s all going to be on you, and you’ll lose the one person you still have that gives a damn about you, Kai.”
His laughter stopped, and a more melancholy expression took over where the crooked smile had previously been. His wife had left him for the man who’d left her in a prison world, shot her with an arrow, and tried to have her killed. The mother of his children had forgotten their life together, and she’d died. His best friend was living a life she’d never imagined, and he didn’t even have the courage to face her, but he couldn’t focus on that right now. It was easier to numb it with more alcohol, point out the faults he recognized in the heretic. His breathing slowed, his anger gone for a moment, and he turned back to the bar, signaling the stunned bartender for another drink, which they reluctantly supplied. With another swig, he looked down at his glass, not even bothering to face Kai again.
“My life has gone to shit over the last couple months, and I’ve lost a lot, but I didn’t get the person I loved killed, and at least I’m not as boring as you..”

“My creative process is a bit more complicated than getting smashed and sticking my teeth in the nearest heartbeat,” he purred almost too casually, “But pardon me for leaving you wanting.”
"I'm just saying when you got out of your prison world, within a few months you were the leader of the stupid coven, and within a few months of getting stuck in another prison world you managed to get out, ruin your sister's wedding and kill the entire coven." The vampire shrugged his shoulders as he spoke, almost as if he really was disappointed by it all. "And you got your ass out of hell, and you not only managed to get out of it by cutting a deal with Cade, but also tried to kill your nieces in a matter of days. Sorry if I'm a little underwhelmed by how boring you've become."
hiiyakai
“Haven’t the time,” he resigned with a soft hum – sighing.
"Really? Because I'm pretty sure you've had months to make your move." Months he'd spent on other things. "For an all powerful heretic, you're kind of a let down."
"Shouldn't you be terrorising a whole new generation of geminis right about now?"
lcrenzo
“You forget the first time was unavoidable, the second, a calculated choice, and the third was your brother. How many times have you danced with death again?”
“I get it.” was all Damon offered, other than an eye roll that is. “My goal is to avoid that dance for as long as possible...”
aaronwhitmcre
“I take it you guys aren’t as close as you used to be.”
“Not at all.”
lcrenzo
“I mean it. It could very well save your life one day.”
"If I need your advice to stay alive, I think I'm already done for."
aaronwhitmcre
“But she’s here, in town?” He hadn’t spoken to her in such a long time.
"Last time I checked."
aaronwhitmcre
“Oh.” Certainly wasn’t what he was expecting. Beyond what happened in twenty-twenty, he couldn’t have imagined there being a tangible cure. “And Elena?”
“Yeah.” the Salvatore shrugged, moving past it to another topic he’d rather not talk about. “Should be human, but I wouldn’t really know. Haven’t really talked to her since everything went down.”
lcrenzo
“You should pay attention to what I say more often.”
“Maybe.”
lcrenzo
“You do know that you don’t have to be directly responsible for something to be your fault. Lest we forget all of the bad that has happened against you, Damon Salvatore.” But Enzo was just sassing him back. It wasn’t like he really believed his friend had any part to play, voluntarily or otherwise.
“Odd, I’m not used to being on the wrong end of a cruel joke.” Damon replied, cracking a smile for the St. John.

He simply maintained contact with the other as her went through the motions. It seemed they reached a common enough ground. “So, I’m guessing you’re back to being a vampire,” was all he had thought to say, moving on. He figured so, since Logan turned again, but he still knew so little about what was happening.
“Human, actually. My brother injected me with the cure back in twenty eighteen before sacrificing himself to save Mystic Falls.” he offered, sharing far more than he had to with the man. “Can’t say that I don’t miss the fangs though.”
aaronwhitmcre
“About you tearing my throat out?” came his flat and sarcastic response. That wasn’t to say he was done. Aaron sighed curtly. “I’ve moved on. As long as you have, we’re good.” It was implied, as he wouldn’t deny that he harbored fears of the Salvatore coming after his children, for decades now. It was the plan, wasn’t it? Why would that stop just because vampires no longer existed?
“If you want to get specific.” the vampire muttered, though he didn’t deny it. He watched the blond, prepared for whatever answer would follow. He knew Aaron had no reason to trust him, not after everything he’d done to him and his family, but he appreciated the sentiment regardless. “Good to know...”
@aaronwhitmcre
“So, no hard feelings, right?”
