i feel like a lot of people on tumblr (that i've seen) have hated the new nico books (tsats, tcotd) because nico isn't as moody and depressed anymore, but nico HAS HAD a goofy side to him this whole time, it's just been suppressed because he is constantly in the face of death and danger. besides Blood of Olympus, every book has been from the perspective of other people who saw him as this dark moody kid, because that's how he was perceived by those characters. and even in his own perspective in BOO, he was on the brink of death and barely had any deep relationships with the other characters. now, he is with people he's comfortable around and healing from past trauma. this is a good thing??? if nico making puppy dog eyes at chiron so his boyfriend can come with him to california and using pet names for will makes you so mad then maybe stop reading middle grade fiction. he's a growing teenage boy who is healing and loves his boyfriend.
