crazy how if you do your chores and obligations first thing on a day off you can enjoy your free time more than if you feel like you’re procrastinating your chores and obligations the whole time. i will not be learning from this experience
This is the worst joke I’ve seen and I am crying
she’s drawing fanarts for her gf’s fanfics
in honour of all hail chaos coming out, here is a marius expression sheet i drew for @mcgae
Just found out that under some circumstances Google will translate the japanese abbreviation for scum villain as "sloppy sex"

When people act like LBH is the bad guy TM in the relationship it’s like ok we all love a good drama but we must not forget that SQQ throws LBH into hell, and then lets everyone else at qing jing peak including his childhood best friend think he’s just crazy and mean for going to huan hua palace instead of back to qing jing peak when he escapes. And LBH lets that happen - lets everyone see him as this crazy and evil demon with totally inappropriate feelings for his Shizun, and his fellow disciples never find out what happened. SQQ was literally the gay guy who tells you he’s gonna marry you in private and then pulls his hoodie up when he walks by you in public with his friends and just lets everyone think you’re crazy when you blow a gasket about it. The ending with him openly leaving with LBH is him finally being a good partner and saying, I’m not going to be ashamed of you anymore. I’m not going to literally make you sneak out a window when my friends knock on my door anymore, I’m not going to put strangers opinions or preconceived notions I have about myself above the literal love of my life anymore. And randos are shocked that he runs away with this evil deranged demon who almost ruined the entire world but neither of them care to clarify anything to anyone because they ended up with eachother and are in LOVEEEEE ‼️‼️
i did a thing!!! fanbinding of @parkersgeorg's incredible scum villain fic, airplane view of the self, which is one of my favourite svsss fics (for good reason).
overall i'm pretty happy with how this turned out--the red endpapers are extremely vibrant IRL (and ties in with [spoiler] at the end!) and provide a nice contrast to the dark blue cover paper (moshang colours!). this is also the first time i've tried a ribbon bookmark and!! it works! i can indeed mark my pages!
the chapter headers were both fun and a beast to figure out--i used a stock image of pixels and then dragged it all the way to the end of the page, and then when i trimmed the pages before binding i cut off all the white space the printer left around it to make it look like it had printed right up to the edge :') the page dividers are willow leaves, as a play off of (spoiler) liu qingge's name.
and yes, i did go through and manually typeset every single time that the system talked (there are twelve fonts used in this typeset including the default text font, lol. thank you fontspace). i would also just like to clarify that in the digital version, all the pixels and system talk is a bright cyan:
i just unfortunately do not have access to a colour printer :')
You could stick it in again .
The case of fanon vs canon Qi Qingqi
Perhaps calling it "fanon" is a bit of an exaggeration--I just mean the somewhat recurring fandom tendency to characterize Qi Qingqi as unreasonable, cruel, or prudish.
Now I must make it very clear, that people should absolutely portray characters and situations however they wish, regardless of what the canon says.
However, I also suspect that sometimes, people simply think that the harsh, prudish version of Qi Qingqi is canon, and therefore they feel compelled to portray her a certain way, not even because they particularly want or need her to be that way, but simply because they believe that's how she's supposed to be.
But in the svsss text, we never really see her described in a negative light. When SY first brings up the character of Qi Qingqi, he says:
原作的齐清萋和沈清秋没什么交情,也不怎么打交道。不过这几年,沈清秋偶尔与她共事,喜欢她心直口快泼辣,还相处的倒还不错。
In the original story, Qi Qingqi and Shen Qingqiu shared no real friendship and rarely even interacted, but in recent years, Shen Qingqiu had begun to occasionally work with her. He liked that she was forthright and feisty, and so he got on pretty well with her."
After this we see Qqq constantly ribbing sy!sqq, in a manner that's clearly friendly and enjoyed by sqq. The only person she's harsh to is lbh, which considering the situation, is a pretty reasonable response. Even nyy, lbh's former best friend, thinks he's an unhinged traitor at that point in the story. Qqq's reasonably dismayed by the fact that sqq is dating his own disciple, who's both a demon emperor and has tried to literally end the world after siccing a demon army on Cang Qiong. And even so, she is never hateful about it. In fact, she flips out more about lqg lying to sqq about lbh being dead, because she's worried it'd traumatize sy.
I think another strike against her comes from the way she talks about sj, but when you look at the og text, all she says is:
(When the peak lords are discussing sqq's sudden personality change after sy shows up, and they conclude that he's lost his memories) 齐清萋皱皱鼻子:“掌门师兄,莫非你还希望他想起来,恢复以前那种……为人处世。”
Qi Qingqi wrinkled her nose: "Zhangmen-shixiong, do you really want him to remember and return to... the way he used to act?"
We already know that Qi Qingqi is a pretty blunt person, and if she really has a serious problem with someone, she'd just say it outright. In this scene, it's another unnamed peak lord who actually goes into a tirade about their problem with sj:
有峰主不解道:“以往他见了掌门师兄和同门从不好好打招呼,也不登门拜访,讲话绵里藏针,阴阳怪气,有什么好的。还是现在这样好些。”
A Peak Lord said with some bewilderment: "Before, he never properly greeted Zhangmen-shxiong and his martial family, has never shown up to visit anyone. Listening to him talk was like finding hidden needles wrapped in silk, it was all passive aggressive sarcasm. What was so good about that? I prefer the way he is now.
This is totally unrelated but in the canon storyline, the other peak lords didn't think sj was a lecher or creep. That comes after Bingge's big exposé. Their biggest problem with him was just that he was a Bitch.
This also means that in the sv canon, Qqq does not really say anything that can be read as prudish. In the very first carriage scene above, sy very blatantly stares at and checks out her underage disciple, going on about how beautiful she is, and all she does in response is the equivalent of pinching his face in exasperation, presumably because she knows sy is just being a little shit and doesn't mean anything by it. After this, sy proceeds to stare unblinkingly at lmy (and lbh) while munching on popcorn, with no further comment from qqq lol.
At the end of the day, Qi Qingqi is the only named female Peak Lord in the story, and she has evidently been written with a lot of love. Alongside lqg and yqy, she is one of the biggest sy defenders, and we have no reason to believe she had any beef with sj, other than thinking he was really fucking anti-social. Her not wanting sj "back" is based on the assumption that sy is sj, just a happier version of him without his darker memories, not because she wants sj dead.
We don't know a lot about Qi Qingqi's personal story, and I'm of the opinion that we should give her whatever role that needs to be filled in our own stories, positive or negative, in character or completely OOC. But we don't all need to make her some unreasonable prude just because, since that clearly isn't who she is in the svsss story.

hiiiiii! zay has his copy now so I can post pics!! :D
I don't normally bind my own work, but after zay did an incredible podfic of one of my jayvik fics, I decided to give a go! (and so I could make him a copy too hehe). this is a bind of the podfic of my little seaside post-canon, when it comes my turn to lose you. gorgeous artwork on the CDs is by @moonartjb and @wr0wn. (full pieces, which have and deserve their own posts, are here and here!)
as always, more crafty chatter under the cut! <3
For some reason, it never occurred to me that Project Gutenberg would have public domain old cookbooks. This is BRILLIANT. There’s a 1953 cranberry recipe pamphlet and a suffrage cookbook from 1915 and a translation of Apicus’s guide to food in Imperial Rome and a whole bunch of other fascinating old cookbooks, many pre-1800. Treasure trove!
I love you for sharing this!!!
For more old cookbooks, Michigan State University has 76 of their historical cookbooks scanned and searchable at Feeding America: The Historic American Cookbook Project.
For even older recipes, check out Gode Cookery. They list medieval and Renaissance cooking instructions and translate the recipes for you into measurable amounts and all.
I have have have to mention Miss Leslie. I learned so much about cooking from that book, even if a lot of it is outdated.
Also, Forme of Cury is great fun, if you can muddle through the Middle English (Gode Cookery has translations and adaptions of some of the recipes from this).
I’ll always take an opportunity to remind people of Barkham Burroughs’ Encyclopaedia of Astounding Facts and Useful Information, which also contains recipes
Feast Afrique had pulled from a range of digital repositories to create a library of historic books on the food and cultural history of West Africa and the African Diaspora. This includes lots of historic and specialized cookbooks.
