Georgetown-Lewes Bike Trail

Checked out a newer section of the Georgetown - Lewes Trail. Entered in Nassau next to the Old World Bakery. Nice and level perfect place to bike, for this old body. I believe the trail goes from somewhere in Georgetown down to Lewes canals, then pick up another trail the will take you into Rehoboth. THAT'S A LONG WALK / RIDE.

Biking From rugged woodland trails to easygoing spins along the beach, the Delaware's Outdoor Trails offers a variety of bicycling challenges.

Bikers favoring hilly workouts are drawn to the northern end of the State, while the flatter and less demanding courses downstate offer a more relaxing ride. .

Disc Golf In Delaware

What is Disc Golf?

Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc or Frisbee®. The sport was formalized in the 1970's and shares with "ball golf" the object of completing each hole in the fewest strokes (or, in the case of disc golf, fewest throws). A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target which is the "hole". The hole can be one of a number of disc golf targets; the most common is called a Pole Hole® an elevated metal basket. As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive throw from the spot where the previous throw has landed. The trees, shrubs, and terrain changes located in and around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the golfer. Finally, the "putt" lands in the basket and the hole is completed. Disc golf shares the same joys and frustrations of traditional golf, whether it's sinking a long putt or hitting a tree halfway down the fairway. There are a few differences, though. Disc golf rarely requires a greens fee, you probably won't need to rent a cart, and you never get stuck with a bad "tee time." It is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages, male and female, regardless of economic status.

Holts Landing 

Fishing, Clamming and Crabbing

Historically, the shores of the inland bays were home to native Americans, who harvested seafood and hunted in the surrounding marshes and forests. After the European settlers arrived, agriculture developed slowly around the "little bays." The property that is now Holts Landing State Park has a long recorded history as a small family farm. The Holt family maintained a farm with a bayshore boat landing on this site until 1957, when the property was sold to the state highway department. Then, in 1965, the first parcel of land was transferred to the State Park Commission, forming Holts Landing State Park. Holts Landing contains a surprising variety of beautiful landscapes, from bay shore beach to grassy fields and hardwood forests, with trails for walking and jogging. The bay waters are great for paddling by kayak or stand-up paddleboard, and wind-surfing is also popular. A pavilion with a nearby fire pit offers is available for group gatherings like family reunions and company picnics. During the summer season, bring the family to enjoy Family Fun Nights and bayside concerts sponsored by the Friends of Holts Landing State Park.

Archaeology Month - Delaware

May is Archaeology Month in Delaware, and an archaeology adventure at Killens Pond in Felton Delaware too...

Visit Killens Pond State Park, Saturday, May 18, for a day full of Archaeological discovery, most of it about local finds. Call [phone] to register.   Hands-on Pottery 11 a.m. Learn how First Nations peoples created clay vessels for cooking and storing foods. Use two different methods to make pots to take home. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Free Pre-Historic Archaeology Walk and Talk 12:30 p.m. Join Archaeologist Dan Griffith for a walk and talk all about archaeology. Free Boathouse Excavation Talk 2:30 p.m. What's with all that digging at the boat house? Join the archaeologists and learn about what they found! Free Archaeology is the study of past behavior and ancient cultures. Archaeology examines all of human history, from the time of the earliest humans to the most advanced civilizations. To understand past behaviors, archaeologists study artifacts, any object modified or manufactured by humans. This assemblage often includes non-perishable or stable artifacts, such as stone tools, stone or clay vessels, glass, and metals. Archaeologists precisely record where all the clues of the past are found so they may reconstruct living surfaces, which may include house remains, fire-hearths, and refuse or garbage pits. Once the artifacts and their contexts are fully studied, researchers attempt to explain how past peoples and societies made a living and adjusted to changing social and environmental circumstances.

Bald Eagle Sighting

Sitting at Turkle Pond, Prime Hook. Getting “Mellow” listening to some smooth jazz, taking a random video when a bird coming into frame. Turned out to be a bald eagle. Put the phone down and got the binoculars out. The eagle flew then perched in a tree for a minute, Then swooped down to the water to grab a fish... so cool to see. Wish i had the right equipment...
