@Hailey
Dee knocked on the door of the Adams’ house. She took a step back, waiting for less than a second before deciding she hadn’t made enough of an impact. She grinned, knocking continuously until the door swung open to reveal a familiar blonde head of hair.
“You’ve gotten fat,” she said by way of greeting, poking Hailey’s stomach before wrapping her arms around her.
coming home // open
The hot summer air filled the car; it was a suffocating kind of heat, one of those days you should be at the beach or gorging on icecream instead of spending two hours sitting in a stuffy car. Though for Dee, there would never be a good reason for spending two hours in the same position. Pulling up onto the main street, she practically burst out of the car, slamming the door behind her and wincing only slightly at the indignant creak it made.
She’d thought of going straight to Seth’s, but it occurred to her that she didn’t know if he was even still in town. A town she’d spent 18 years building a life in, and she didn’t know where there was to go. The shack, where she’d swallowed those pills. Her father’s home that she’d walked out of and never looked back. The cemetery. It had been nearly a year since she’d been home, but in a way, Tulsa still felt like something of a graveyard.
But Dee knew better now. Allister, Rein, all the bad things that had happened here were in the past. The dead were dead wherever you went and however far you ran. There were just as many good memories as bad. Mel’s, she decided, that’s where there was to go. Half-skipping with pent up energy, she made her way to the cafe, pushing open the door with a sunny smile. She could use a milkshake
As You'd Begun || Seth & Dee [goodbye para]
"I am totally psychic," she beamed at him, trying not to think about some other things she’d joked about that had come true. "And you know what? I’m foreseeing an abundance of fabulousness in your immediate future." She nodded seriously, then smirked at him. "But I’m afraid if you want a more detailed prophesy you’re gonna have to pay up." God, she had missed this. And it was - it was one of the few things she missed that she could get back to, and that made it infinitely wonderful.
"I was in San Diego," she told him brightly, "I was staying with Alice for a while, just kind of working lots… I wanted to go look for Robin at first. I was saving up for it. I mean, I love Alice, but Robin’s… Robin, you know? She’s absolutely the most Robin person I’ve ever met!" She laughed awkwardly, though it wasn’t really a joke. She wondered if she should really be bringing up Robin to him - he had a girlfriend now. A non Robin girlfriend. "And I just had this totally stupid idea that I could just fly to Paris and look around for a couple weeks and then she’d be sitting down at some cafe and she’d look up and there I was! Dumb, right? But then… I realised she might not want that." She smiled thinly, kind of regretting bringing this up. "So I stayed! And Alice left with Drew, and I got sad staying there without her so I waved my magic wand and here I am!" She grinned.
"Oh really? Well that makes me twice as happy as I am right now and I’ll tell ya’ something, Catwoman, I’m ecstatic." He said, smiling brightly, as his eyes met hers. If only his friends could come back like this everyday. He would truly be the happiest boy alive if that were possible. One day Dee, the next Rein, and finally Allister. It would be a great day, but he knew it was impossible to reach that goal. It didn’t stop him from being happy though, no he stopped thinking like that, ever since Jamie and the baby, ever since they grew closer, everything seemed to be going great.
The boy licked his lips nervously as he listened to Dee. If only she knew how many times he had thought of doing that. Those nights when he was staying in Cain’s basement were always the worst. He’d dream of just leaving and finding her and she wouldn’t be angry or upset, like she would have in reality, she would have been happy. It was just a dream though. A dream that he was actually thankful that did not come true, because then he would have never gotten to know Jamie and that was a truly terrible thought. “Yeah, I know what you mean… I actually saw Alice. She was talking to Superman and she said she was going to see the witches. Before I knew it she was leaving again. I’m glad you’re here, Dee. I’m really happy to see you, you have no idea.” He said, smiling brightly at the girl as his eyes showed how genuinely happy he was to see her.
"I'm ecstatic-er!" She declared, laughing, and then dramatically lay down, sprawled on his lap. "In fact, I am positively the most ecstatic girl in the world right now. I know, because of the psychic thing." She grinned up at him.
"It kind of sucks, huh?" She pulled a face. When Alice had left and she'd realised there was no point to what she'd been working towards - well, it had started to seem almost as bad as it had back when she had tried to... Her eyes widened with the sudden realisation that Seth didn't know about that, still. "I'm really happy to see you, too," she replied with a faint smile. "Seth- there's something I have to tell you."
As You'd Begun || Seth & Dee [goodbye para]
Dee just nodded at his comment, just eager to let the subject of his girlfriend drop. It was just - bizarre to her. Everything just all of a sudden felt unfamiliar, like it had when she had driven into Tulsa and seen the empty lot where Juliet’s had once stood. Grinning, she shook the feeling off and nudged him back before listening attentively.
"Hailey’s a Greaser?" she repeated, so completely startled that it took her a moment to process Seth’s next words. She was… "No way!” she squealed, before realising that Seth was right next to her and eardrums tended to be fragile. “Oh my god, that’s so incredible! There’s going to be a little baby Hailey! Or Hail-o! Though,” she grinned, “The poor kid, it’s going to be stuck with her dreadful genes.” she was joking, obviously; she was relatively certain Hailey was perfection personified. “And I totally called Carmen and Rodney! Like, three years ago!”
For all her happy exclamations, though, something felt… off. Tulsa seemed so different to how it was when she left, so different to the one that Allister and Rein had lived in, and it frightened her.
Seth couldn’t help but laugh. He missed his friend terribly, he missed the sarcastic banter and the witty comebacks. The boy nodded, comically shaking his head as he heard her squeal, “Well, I can tell by your tone that you’re somewhat positive towards this change.” He said sarcastically, smirking at Dee. “But, yes she is and yes, Tulsa is expecting another perfect human. It’s a beautiful thing.” Seth winked playfully at his friend. He couldn’t get over how real this was. The last time they saw each other, they were arguing about Allister, but now. Now, they were smiling faces, laughing, and joking together like it once was.
"Ah, well, I’ll just call you Dee the psychic from now on." He said, smiling brightly at the girl. It seemed that if anyone would be the psychic one, it would be his Catwoman. Seth soon raised an eyebrow as his smile remained as bright as possible, "So, tell me, what has been going on with you? Where did you wander off to?" He said, slightly concerned to where she had gone. It really didn’t matter though, what really mattered was that she was back here in Tulsa.
"I am totally psychic," she beamed at him, trying not to think about some other things she'd joked about that had come true. "And you know what? Seth smirked at the girl, eying her playfully, before he noticed how the laughter in her voice faded and the look in her eye changed. It was almost as if she was startled by his change. He didn’t say anything though, the last thing he needed was to be in another argument with a girl he cared for. “She’s—..” Seth stopped for a moment. Was it really the time to tell Dee that Jamie was pregnant? Pregnant because of him? No, she’d find out. Just not now. Not at this very second that is. “She’s great.” He said smiling brightly as his mind thought of the girl for a brief moment before continuing with his conversation.
"Oh, rapid conversation change? And I thought you said you were getting old." He said playfully, nudging the girl, before continuing. "Well, I mean Rodney and I aren’t really close, but I think he’s okay? Carmen is good. She and Rodney are dating now so she’s been pretty happy. I think? I mean last time I really talked to her she seemed great." He said with a nod. "Hailey is great! You obviously know she’s a Greaser now, right? And that she and Cain got married. Oh! I don’t know should I tell you this? Well, it’s kind of all over town, so I might as well. She’s pregnant." He said, raising his eyebrows for a brief moment before letting them fall back now. "And that’s the latest news I’ve heard of." He said with a smirk.

As You'd Begun || Seth & Dee [goodbye para]
"Mhm, that’s for sure." He replied playfully as he followed her into the living room. Watching Dee collapse onto the couch, he comically rolled his eyes. It was just like old times, nothing really had changed, and he loved it. Seth walked over to the bookshelf and grabbed a few Justice League comics before turning around and handing them to her. "Your highness." He said playfully as laughter bubbled out of him.
Plopping down onto the couch, next to Dee, a small smile formed onto his face as he watched her look of confusion at the photo. Though they had recently argued, he was still happy to talk about Jamie. Happy to think about her, happy to know that they were together, it was all a little happy fest in Seth Mann’s mind. It was as if the argument had left his mind for this afternoon, he just didn’t want to think about. “That’s my girlfriend, Jamie.” He said, smiling brightly as his head turned to view Dee. “You guys should meet. What about dinner one night? I mean, since your back in town you guys should hang out! I could see you two really hitting it off.” He said, nodding in excitement, as he searched his friend’s face for an answer.
She laughed some more at his eyeroll, flipping him off. She couldn't help but grin at everything he said, and everything seemed so utterly perfect. "Thank you, peasant." she said haughtily, taking the comic books. "Now, be my footrest." she grinned, obviously joking. She flicked through the books quickly, seeing the familiar characters - Aquaman, Mera, The Flash, Batman. Green Lantern, Superman.
"Your girlfriend." Dee repeated, the laughter fading from her voice as she looked at him, uncomprehending. It didn't make sense to her. Robin was Seth's girlfriend, Robin was her Seth's girlfriend. What else had changed, she wondered, and could she really fit in a Tulsa where it was Seth and Jamie. She was happy for him, though, really she was. It was clear from his face how happy he was, and if he was happy then so was Dee. Which was why her grin was only a little bit forced. "Yeah! Yeah, I'd like that." she said enthusiastically, then rapidly changed the subject. "So tell me, how is everyone? How's Rodney? And Carmen, and Hailey - ooh, tell me how Hailey is!"
As You'd Begun || Seth & Dee [goodbye para]
Seth couldn’t stop smiling. Dee, the girl who he almost ran over with Betsy, was standing right in front of him. He hadn’t heard from her in such a long time, but now she was standing right there. He couldn’t have been happier at this very moment. His friend was here, one of the few who he had thought left, she was really here. “Awe, Catwoman, you’re too tough to cry.” He said playfully, leaning down and wiping one of the happy tears from her face. He could have started crying any second, it would not have surprised him.
"Come in, come in." He said warmly as he lead the way into the apartment. "Where have you been? How’ve you been? What’ve you been doing?" He asked, all in an excited tone, as his eyes turned around and met hers. He could not believe she was here. It truly astonished him. "Would you like some coffee or something to eat? Or maybe a comic book to graze upon for later?" He asked, smiling brightly at his friend. This was turning out to be a better day than he thought.
She practically skipped into his apartment, bursting with energy and excitement at the fact that she was seeing him. There was this warmth that filled her now she was here, filled every crack and corner, because this was her Flash, the boy in all of her memories. Nothing could change that. She laughed at his rapid questions, "Slow down, mister, I'm not as young and spry as I used to be!" she said, collapsing dramatically onto the couch as if to prove her point. "Though I would love a comic book." she smiled up at him angelically.
Her eyes scanned the room as she wondered what he'd been up to these past few months. There was a photo on the wall of someone - she couldn't make it out exactly, but she didn't think she recognised them. Confused, she looked back at Seth.
As You'd Begun || Seth & Dee [goodbye para]
There was not a single noise in the entire apartment. There was only the sound of the boy’s breathing as his eyes were memorizing the cracks on the ceiling. He had done this too many times, but he never thought he would be doing it again. Not after getting together with Jamie. He had been happy, but their argument had left him saddened and blue. He had caused tears to fall from the girl’s eyes, he had caused a doubt in her heart, he had caused everything that pained her and it tore him up.
Getting up, Seth was just about to make a pot of coffee until he heard a familiar voice. He stopped dead in his tracks, a smile spread across his face as he turned on the ball of his foot. Was it really Catwoman? His heart thumped heavily against his chest in excitement as he heard her voice again. Laughter escaped him as he walked up to the door. He cupped his two hands around his mouth and put it against the door, “Really? Are you sure? Because the ghost of Halloween present just came by, I think she has her timing screwed up.” He said in his usual comical Seth Mann voice before opening up the door. His eyes almost teared up as they met Dee’s. His Catwoman had returned. His body nearly slammed into hers as he wrapped his arms around her quickly, squeezing the small girl in a tight hug as he picked her up off the floor.
"Catwoman!" He said excitedly as he finally put the girl down. The fight with Jamie had cleared his mind as he saw one of the original Six in front of him. He couldn’t believe it. Delia Phillips was really here, standing in front of him. He couldn’t have been more delighted.
Dee giggled, clapping a hand to her mouth when she heard Seth's voice. And then he opened the door and it was him, it was really her Flash, and she felt like her face was going to fall off from grinning so hard. "Flash!" she squealed as he picked her up, hugging on to him tightly.
When she let go, her eyes filled with tears, "Oh my god, I'm crying." she laughed, wiping her eyes. "You made me cry, you big huggable bully!" She was grinning, craning her neck to look up at his face. It took a moment for the tears to stop blurring her vision and when they did she blinked, taken aback by his appearance. He was still so obviously Seth, but his face seemed to have shifted into a real proper adult's - but at the same time, the absence of those dark eyebags and look of age-old sadness that used to be there made him look younger, happier. Happier. She beamed.

As You'd Begun || Seth & Dee [goodbye para]
Dee stared at the door in front of her. Two weeks of hitchhiking and here she was. Home. She had come to Seth's before anything else, before even visiting the cemetery, but now she was here all she could do was stare. Her and was squeezed into a fist; she only needed to raise it and rap it against the door in front of her but instead she just stood there, waiting. For what? She used to be so brave with things like this, but she had walked into his house and found it deserted once before. That wasn't something she wanted to repeat.
And then there was a noise, just like something stepping over something. He was in there, she realised with a rush of giddy relief. Abandoning the idea of knocking the door, she cupped her hands around her mouth pressing them to the door. "Seeeeeth," she called in her most spooky voice, "I am the ghost of halloween paa-aast." she stepped, grinning.
Well, it is good to be back.
The one and only. Miss me?
{squeals} Oh my god- I mean, nope, I didn't miss you, not at all!
Well, it is good to be back.
Such a shame you don’t remember me. Have I really changed that much?
Wait a minute... Flynn? Flynn Daniels?
Well, it is good to be back.
Well howdy, stranger. I don't recall you leavin'?
Well Tulsa, Long time no see
Don’t lie to me. Please. I’m sorry if I said anything. I truly am.
{covers her eyes and breathes in shakily} No, it's not you- it's just... Things.
