Clever Love | Brynn & Seth
She lead him through the house, poking her head in to let her mother know she had a friend come to visit. It earned her a stern look, but Brynn didn’t linger to see it. “Exciting news?” Brynn repeated, her grin widening, “it sounds like exactly what this afternoon needs.” She opened the door as it was a beautiful day, and her pool glimmered in the bright sun.
Taking a deep breath, she nodded, “nearly. This morning we prepared for the ladies, then they arrived. It’s ingrained in me, like a special power I suppose.” She joked as she sat on some of their new patio furniture, “I’d much rather hear about this exciting news/advice though.”
A grin spread across his face as he nodded. “Okay, okay.” Licking his lips for a moment, he took in a deep breath and soon shared his news, “I want to ask Jamie to marry me.” He felt his grin growing from the corner of each cheek. “I’m going to. Soon.” He repeated, his grin only brightening as his hand shook a little as he realized the decision he made. “I know you talk to her, you guys are friends-- I was just wondering, do you think that’s a good idea? Do you think that will complicate anything? I mean-- I don’t think she would say no, but if she did... That’d be a little uncomfortable, I guess-- What do you think?”
Clever Love | Brynn & Seth
Her afternoon had been full of gossiping, nosy women with a knack for shooting her pitying glances and helpful commentary on recent life choices. She smiled politely and thanked them for advice, but she would no longer be defined by what was said behind her back and even to her face. After long debates of what she wanted out of life, money and social standing just didn’t hold up the way it used to.
Relief came from a knock on the door, and she eagerly excused herself. Praying it was for her, she opened the door as her eyes lit up. “Seth!” She greeted happily, judging quickly that nothing was wrong as he didn’t appear upset. “Do you want to come in? Mother has some ladies over for tea and gossip, also known as book club. We can talk out in the back.”
“Oh tea and gossip? Well, that sounds like my cup of tea.” Laughter quickly filled his voice as he nudged his friend slightly. “Yeah, that’d be great. I got some exciting news-- Or in need of exciting advice?” He quickly questioned his wording as he wiggled his eyebrows together. “Well, whatever I have to say-- It’s good. Very good. Which will be a good change for you as I take it you’re not enjoying this ‘book club’ very much. No need to fear, the Flash is here.” He giggled as he followed his friend out to the back.
“So, have you been subjected to this torture all day? I don’t know how you do it, Star Sapphire. You’re just too heroic for me to handle.”
Clever Love | Brynn & Seth
He was practically skipping towards the West side. His heart was thumping with an unexplainable happiness. Just the idea of marriage seemed to make him jump up and down and now that he knew Allister was on the same page as he was it seemed more exciting than before. He now had the duty as best friend and investigate not only for himself, but for Allister. Green Lantern and Flash, the dynamic duo.
Knocking on the Turner’s house, he wondered if Brynn would be home. He hoped she would be and he also hoped he wasn’t imposing. He was just too excited to go home and phone. He couldn’t wait.
@Green Lantern
“Okay, first— I don’t think there’s ever going to be the ‘right time’. I just think you ask when you know— But, I’m really not the guy you should be asking. Ask Cain! Or better yet, you should talk to Brynn. She talks to Jamie. You could get an insider scoop from her. Plus— you could talk to her for me… See where she’s at with the whole wedding idea, huh? What do you say?” He winked, laughter filling his voice. “I mean… It’s not a bad idea… I could talk to Jamie for you.. We could do our famous Flash and Green Lantern investigating.”
“Uhhh.” Seth bit on his lip for a moment, contemplating. “Well, if I did talk to Brynn... It’d give us time to catch up. I feel like I haven’t seen her in forever and then I could help you out. But, wouldn’t she be a little suspicious? Let’s face it. Brynn is smarter than both of our little heads combined.” Laughter filled his voice as he spoke with honesty. “She can figure stuff out. Do you think she’d catch on?”
@Green Lantern
His jaw dropped a little as he registered Seth’s question. His heart warmed a little bit at the thought, though. In fact, laughter filled his words as he began to speak, as if he had been thinking about it right that minute, “Of course I’ve thought about it. I’ve thought about it a lot. In fact, the more I think about it the more I want to hop down on one knee and pop that stupid great question. It’s just—” Sighing a little, Allister sat across from Seth in their booth. “It’s just complicated. I don’t know what to do about the whole Edwin situation. I don’t want to not talk to him— But if I do talk to him, it’ll make it impossible for Brynn and me. Plus, I don’t want Brynn to have to worry about her father and just. Socs and Greasers. Can’t we just be neutral?” He laughed a little.
Scratching the back of his neck, he looked up at his friend. “Wait— Are you thinking about asking Jamie to marry you?” A large smirk spread across his face as he awaited an answer.
“That does sound complicated... But, I mean-- It’s you and Brynn, it’s you guys. You guys are like chocolate milk. You can’t have one without the other. I mean, we all know independently you guys are great-- but together you guys make the most amazing drink in the world.” Seth’s smile extended across his face as their drinks quickly came to the booth. Both having a traditional chocolate milk.
“Yeah, I think I am. I mean, when she and Brynn caught that bouquet at Carmen and Rodney’s wedding-- I started thinking about it, more than I already had been. I just, I don’t know. I don’t know if the timing is right-- If she even wants to get married-- Do you think she wants to get married? I love her. I want to spend the rest of my life with her. But, what makes marriage so different than what we already have? You see what I’m saying?-- And oh, god. What if she says no? Do you know how awkward that would be?” Seth’s face was a mix between illuminated and shaken.
@Green Lantern
“Oh, a Betsy’s meeting? Something must be going on. What’s up? You need girl advice?“ Laughter filled his voice before patting his friend on the back. “Alrighty, a Betsy’s meeting it is.”
“Girl advice? Well, I guess it could fall under that category.” He wiggled his eyebrows comically as he nudged his friend. “I need advice... On, well, ya’ know-- The future? We just need to talk.” He struggled with his words as he opened the door to the diner. “Have you thought about asking Brynn to marry you yet?” His words seemed to just spill out of his mouth now. Forget a filter.
@Green Lantern
GL, we need a Betsy’s meeting-- ASAP!
So if you ever wanted to dress up like a hero, I recommend one of the greatest ones of all: Spider-man. He’s a lot like your dad-- So, I mean if you can’t dress up like your dad, you can dress up to the next best hero out there-- Spider-man.

Falling → Jamie + Seth
After 5 months of working at the cafe, Juliet begrudgingly agreed to let her bring Thomas to work.
At first it was a one-time deal—she was sick of feeling like her aunt saw more of Thomas than she did, even though she appreciated the help a great deal—but then Juliet became attached to the little guy. Customers went crazy for him too, though the Socs tended to look between him and her in pity more often than not. She didn’t mind. Somehow, Thomas had become a centerpiece for the place.
"Your shift’s over, you know?" Juliet said.
"I know," she replied, setting Thomas down on counter. He busied himself with banging his fists on the cash register. "I’m just waiting for Seth to pick me up."
"Something special planned or are you tapping your foot like a madwoman just for the fun of it?"
Jamie brightened and ignored the sarcasm. “I spent three hours this morning setting up the living room and bedroom.” She smiled in triumph before removing her apron. “There are flower petals absolutely everywhere. I swear, we’re going to be finding them around the apartment for the rest of the month.” She’d set the coffee table with red cloth and a champagne bottle that she’d poured into another container, washed, and then filled with chocolate milk since Seth was crazy about the stuff. Fancy drinking glasses adorned the table and, most importantly, something new hung up on the wall. It had taken weeks of tracking down beforehand, but she’d gotten her hands on a photo of the first The Flash comic book cover blown up to poster size and custom framed. Now it’d be one of if not the first things people would see when they came over.
"Ah, young romance, I remember thee, except my Valentine was Dean Morden and we substituted flower petals with vodka stolen from his parents’ stash and makeout sessions in his family’s pool."
"You’re only six years older than me. You’re not ancient," Jamie reminded her. "And he was a Soc?"
"I guess. You know I don’t believe in all of that-"
A car light flashed through the windows and three heads turned to look at it.
Juliet squinted. “Is that your boy?”
"That it is." Jamie smiled, just now realizing that she’d recognize Betsy anywhere. "Come on, baby." She scooped Thomas into her arms and headed for the door, looking back on her way out. "Take care!"
"I should be telling you lovebirds that," her boss called back.
"Oh, stop," she said as the door closed behind her. Holding Thomas up to eye level, she dropped her voice to a whisper. "Time for daddy’s surprise, yeah? Let’s hope that he likes it."
"Come on, girl. Come on." Seth whispered as Betsy's engine continued to stall. "You had to choose today to not be responsive. Come on! Don't be silly, don't be silly." He continued to whisper as he continued to restart the jeep.
After working his fingers to the bone all day, he had been preparing to surprise Jamie with a full cooked dinner, starlight setting, dancing in the living room, the whole works. Unfortunately, his plan fell short. For the last hour Betsy continued to fail at starting. His free hour of cooking had been thrown out the window as he called Allister, sighing in slight frustration in the nearest pay phone. Twenty minutes later, Green Lantern had saved the day.
"I got you covered, Flash." A large smile spread across Allister's face as he popped Betsy's hood and began doing mechanical things Seth couldn't fathom. "Is she gonna be okay? I gotta go pick Jamie up. I was gonna do this whole fancy dinner thing-- But, well, now it's sorta cancelled. I mean, I'll just have to save it for tomorrow or something." He shrugged as he watched Allister climb back up in the front, starting Betsy up, her engine roaring beautifully. "Yes!" Seth practically jumped up in the air with excitement. "Thanks, bud. Want a ride to the apartment?"
"Nah, I got legs. I can use 'em. Just have a good night. It's already, uh, nine! Go get your girl and just be with her. See ya', bud. Say hi to the little Mann for me." Allister smirked as he patted his friend on the back and began walking.
"Thanks, Ali!" Seth called out before hopping in the jeep and began speeding towards Juliet's. He just wanted to see Jamie. He had felt like they had been working too much, it was as if they had barely seen each other. Tonight's mission: fix this.
Pulling into Juliet's, he hopped out as he spotted Jamie and Thomas, his two favorite people. The smile on his face brightened as he walked towards them, "My two favorite people!" He called out cheerfully as he leaned in to kiss Jamie and tickle Thomas. "How was everyone's day?" He asked as he opened the passenger door for Jamie. He took Jamie from her and delicately placed him in the car seat before running around towards the driver's seat. "Any crazy kids come in?" He laughed as he started up Betsy, who actually started this time.

@Ricky
Ricky couldn’t help but smile at Seth’s enthusiasm. It was contagious. He loved hearing how happy Seth seemed with his life now; Lord knows that the kid had it rough the last few years. If anyone deserved happiness, it was Seth Mann. “Good, good. Glad to hear it, man. That’s a trip that Thomas is one now. Seems like just yesterday he was a wrinkled little peanut.” He laughed a little. “I’m… doin’ all right, I guess. Back to normal since the accident.” Most mornings his body still ached but he figured that was just how things were going to be from now on; just like the constant twinge in his back. “Rhi’s doin’ real good. She’s actually taking some art classes to learn more now that she’s feeling strong enough. Dad’s good. He says hi, by the way. You know my dad likes you more than he likes me.” Ricky chuckled.
"He's still a little wrinkled peanut, just bigger and he won't stop this waving thing. It's the cutest thing in the world." He laughed as he took a small sip from his glass, subtly cringing at the taste. Soon, his face lit up as he heard how Ricky was doing. "That's great, Thor!" He smiled brightly. He was so happy to hear his friend was doing better. "Ah, Rhi's doing an art classes? Holy crapola, that's awesome! Who knows, maybe she'll be drawing comics in the comic books in a few years?" Laughter bubbled in his throat. "Shucks, tell him I saw hi back! Psft, Ricky. It's just that I'm more charmin' is all." Seth added comically, nudging his friend playfully before taking another small sip.
