in terms of ridiculously inconsequential pet peeves: this is an impossibly subtle detail so i don't blame people for missing it, but on day 2 when ashido refers to izuku as "midori," it has more to do with the fact that they haven't been properly introduced (calling him "green," because he's dressed in green) than as an indicator of ashido's character or her using nicknames. when she calls on him later in the story (during prep for the cultural festival), she calls him midoriya.
why was izukus response to bakugous jeering in chapter 1 about getting into ua quirkless "they got rid of that rule"? very bizarre concept to never elaborate on or even mention again, especially considering mirio's situation. why was it even a rule in the first place
hey man have you checked your house for iida tenya lately? heard theres a lot of infestations of him cropping up in peoples walls n shit
overwhelming reports of carbon monoxide poisoning related to iida tenya infestations

i dont think theres a single instance in the entirety of the main series where a character refers to all might as just "yagi." like its either all might or its toshinori
im no scholar
after deku's battle against lady nagant, danger sense activates and lures him away from the other heroes before they can reconvene. someone was under attack from a villain, and as he goes to rescue the victim, their quirk activates and sends him two years into the past. now stuck in a world rife with disasters to prevent and an alternate self whose training could use assistance, deku takes up a new name and becomes a jack of all trades to save the world before the spread of despair becomes irreparable.
about the name "jack of all trades" - jack in particular comes from izuku's earliest iteration from my hero (the distinct oneshot) as jack midoriya. the name jack carries a similar weight to deku, if i'm not mistaken (if i remember correctly jack sounds similar to another japanese insult). the "jack of all trades" reference should be more obvious in that he has seven quirks, giving him a lot of utility he'd otherwise need support gear for.

actually i want to expand on this briefly because there is a communal bathroom in addition to this that makes the mention of per-room bathrooms look redundant and out of place, but that problem is more likely due to an issue of localization and an honestly pretty silly limitation with how the english language is used. a word that doesn't see as much use in the english language which would better describe the bathrooms mentioned in this panel is probably powder rooms, not full bathrooms. particularly, they're bathrooms not equipped with baths or showers (ergo the lack of "bath" in the term).
the reason this word tends to be avoided could be a number of things, but i figure the most likely one for this scenario besides the translators being weak is that the term is feminine (powder... make-up) and god forbid they insinuate that for something where the word "bathroom" would do the job (ignoring the side effect that they end up confusing people, because the intended audience here is mostly kids who ideally wouldn't notice or care. and that nuance isn't necessary unless people are doing silly stuff and creating scenarios that wouldn't exist without it).

also kirishima acting like its some amiable thing not to give him crap for having been quirkless. fat L. basic decency
in case anyone thinks i blame aoyama in that situation, i do not. his parents made an honest, if ill-informed, mistake and they were blackmailed because of it. the students are amicable for forgiving him so easily. the connection he has to their repeated targeting is undeniable though, and comparing someone keeping their benign personal life to themself to that is wild.
if the focus of that dialogue lied more in the vein of, "we didnt blame him for that belief that he put the rest of us in danger by his mere presence," it would have been considerably less noteworthy. the idea that concealing a benign identity is comparable to something that destructive is kind of fucked, but the idea that izukus beliefs and subsequent actions, which led the class to despair over him and seek him out in a dangerous battlefield (and fighting back to escape, lol), could be comparable to the destruction of leaking confidential information to a malevolent force would be less baffling.
kirishimas weird streak of being kind of inconsiderate about izuku continues for some reason. is this intended as a character flaw or is it just some bizarre/poorly thought-out writing choice? that he speaks like izukus prior quirklessness and his refusal to be forward about it, which is really none of their business and doesnt affect them, is in any way comparable to aoyama leaking crucial security details to The Most Dangerous Criminal In The World that led to the destabilization of not only japan but much of the world, as well as the direct harm of the class. the whole thing comes across as really fucking bizarre. one wouldve never mattered even in the worst case (given the scenario that the received power is ofa), the other matters with a great deal of severity even in the best case (contact with a malicious entity). hello? like, yes, the aoyama family are victims and hostages in this situation, but that doesnt change the severity of the situation at all compared to izukus personal past - especially considering how recently the aoyamas were sending intel. izuku is benign, and never posed any amount of threat. hes just an anomaly.
and by "continues," im referring to the kamino trip ordeal after the camp attack. why was kirishima coercing izuku, after he just woke up after treatment for an insanely traumatic injury, into doing something that had the potential to be extremely dangerous? even if that potential danger went unforeseen in a frankly unbelievable show of naivety, kirishima was basically guilt tripping him into helping. "you can still reach him," or whatever. what? his arms were immobilized in huge casts. he really should have been at home resting that night.
the framing of this panel highlights how preposterous this entire proposition was. poor guy couldnt even take his hand to shake on it (though i suppose that has become somewhat of a recurring theme now that aoyama (yuga) took that treatment from izuku, it again doesnt exactly make the most sense to compare them as equals as the situations are completely different).
kirishima is otherwise a perfectly amicable character, but for whatever reason he takes advantage of izuku. its weird. (does it happen elsewhere and i just havent seen it? but when? and why?)
theres a pretty distinct "good cop/bad cop" dichotomy going on between all might and aizawa (respectively) regarding how they teach that never seems to make its way into anything ive read. probably because they disagree on everything and arent intentionally working towards that goal, but regardless they pretty clearly treat the kids totally differently. i mean damn all might gave them cotton candy once. imagine your teacher lugging a fucking cotton candy machine to school for your class just to make one joke the guy would instantly be a favorite. meanwhile if a kid so much as makes a bad grade theyre threatened with having privileges revoked, which is not a quality most kids would find "good" or "cool"
Because it’s December and it has been in my folder for a while.
