Adaline nodded. She understood the hardships of having an arranged marriage, but she couldn’t imagine the stress of having to marry within one month of meeting somebody. It just seemed… crazy. “I’m sure he’s wonderful.” She smiled slightly, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. “Why don’t you come shopping with me? My mother’s allowing me to go out and buy some american clothing so I don’t stick out at school. That could get your mind off it?”
Delphine sighed and wiped her hand across her forehead. She wasn’t sure about this, but she was going to work through it. “He’s very kind and we seem to get along well, I guess,” she said quietly. “That sounds like a wonderful idea, I would love to.”
“I’m glad you feel that way.”
Well I hope you feel the same.
“You’re very welcome love.”
You’re a present genius.
“Trying out this thing where my hair looks absolutely dreadful – what do you think?”
I don’t think it looks so bad.
“I think it’d be really cute if you designed his coronation crown, with special gemstones that mean something.”
That’s genius! Thank you so much.
“That sounds great, thank you.”
We’re in this together now.
“Hm, well stay away from cheesy gifts that mean nothing like gift cards or soap.”
That seems to be a good start.
“I would defy the devil himself if it meant taking care of my country.”
I was not questioning your loyalty, your highness.
“No I definitely haven’t. I don’t even know where to begin.”
How about we split the work? I’ll work on the wedding if you take charge of the coronation.
“Oh totally, i’m an expert at presents.”
Great. So hypothetically, there is this guy and I just met him but he’s about to be a very important part of my life. What am I even supposed to get him?
“Oh my… That’s just.. I can’t even imagine. I’m so sorry.” The younger princess was honestly speechless. She thought her courtship arrangement was ridiculous, but hearing that someone had it worse, having to marry before even knowing them all that well. Upon seeing the girl break her composure, she pulled the girl into a hug, not bothering to wonder if the blonde wanted to be touched. “No, it’s okay, don’t worry. We don’t have to talk about this if you don’t want to.”
“It’s alright, I’ll manage, I always find a way to manage. I don’t think it should be too bad, I mean he seems very nice,” she said softly. Delphine has been bottling up all of her feelings, because there was no one for her to talk to. But all of those feeligs had poured out onto the younger princess. She felt terrible for making the situation uncomfortable but it felt good to finally talk. “Again, I am truly sorry. Why don’t we talk about something else?
Oh my gosh, I couldn’t imagine marrying someone I hardly knew. Plus, I don’t think my father could stand merging countries. He just wants this to happen so our family would have royal ties in more than one country. I mean, I just don’t know how I feel about having my future husband picked out for me… I kinda figured that, growing up, I would be able to fall in love with whoever I want, not have a husband ready and waiting for my twenty-first birthday.”
I could not either but I seem to have ended up in that exact situation. I am supposed to get married soon and then we are going to merge our kingdoms and become the king and queen of them. I met him for the first time when I walked into our new house. And I don’t get an option from our families because they’re both gone. — I’m sorry, I am very sorry, please excuse me, I must compose myself.
“Oh, he’s great. He’s been courting me for three years, and when he turns twenty-one, we’ll be wed and he’ll have his coronation to become King of his country. He’s… He’s great.”
At least you two are getting time to get to know each other. It’s not like you two have just met and you’re supposed to get married and unite your two countries. You don’t seem to be very excited about him.
I told him I was being courted by a duke, and he told me that courting isn’t a thing. So I pulled out a photograph from my bag, and he told me I was weird because I didn’t have a cell phone or this thing called Instagram. I don’t quite like American boys, they’re so immature.
I think that he is the one that is weird. He doesn’t understand the rules that we have, and how we do relationships. They don’t understand how complicated it can be. But let’s forget him, and talk about your duke.
“ There was this guy outside when I came out today who told me that my body was ‘a1′ and that he would ‘hit it from behind.’ Apparently, telling somebody that you’re being courted by a duke overseas is ‘just an excuse’ here in America. This country is awful weird and I want to go home. ”
That seems quite rude of him to do. These Americans are so different and they have different rules for dating. What did you say to him?
“Some of the people in America are so materialistic this time of year. Does anyone know why that is?”
It's because that is what they were taught by their parents.
