i’m gonna let all those thoughts on the movie sink in for a while before i do anything else here. gotta think on some of it some more. figure out how i’m gonna use it on this blog. wishlist / plot ideas will probably come p soon tho. bc yaaaass
things i noticed rewatching jason bourne ( half analysis half flailing )
bourne 200% still has dreams / nightmares / flashbacks about everything. he can’t control them. sometimes they keep him awake at night. sometimes for weeks on end.
seeing families and children gets to him emotionally. his was taken from him. his wife. his kids. marie. he can never have that again. he can’t let himself have that again. they’ll just take it away.
nicky = bae. that’s it. bae.
she’s also the only person in the world jason trusts. she risked her career, her life, everything to help him. for some strange reason he knows that she supports him. and he owes her.

they’ve def been in contact this whole time. not frequently or regularly, but in contact.
jason feels responsible for nicky. she’s legit the only person alive in the world who knows who he is and doesn’t want him dead. she had to run because of him. whatever she’s become now, whatever happens to her comes back to him. he feels that guilt. so heavily.
he used himself as fucking bait !! he was 200% clean going to see nicky. he chose to let the people he’s been running/hiding from see him... for her. omg my heart.
bourne is a hella good driver tho. i mean, we’ve seen that already but damn. hella good. also he really likes to drive up/down stairs.
if the cia hadn’t been telling the asset bourne’s every move, he would’ve been able to save nicky.
nicky feels responsible for bourne too. she watched what they did to him. she let it happen. she’s trying to make up for it. she’s still trying to protect him. she did protect him. she knew if she was alive, he would do anything he could to save her. she sacrificed herself. jfioewjfdaoisFEELS!!!!

jason feels things so strongly. he’s actually a v deep person at heart, but he forces himself to suppress it. he’s been trained to suppress it.
for someone who doesn’t use much tech (bc traceability ew. off the grid yay!) he’s p good with tech.
should i pay attention to the other characters? probably. will i? no.
people at the cia have bourne so so wrong. yes he’s v troubled and will never find peace, but it’s like dealing with wasps. you leave him alone, he’ll leave you alone. when they go poking the bear, fucking up his life again, trying to kill him... yeah, he’s gonna fight back. wow crazy. what an idea.
he knows dassault, the hacker that nicky was working with. that’s not someone that was ever mentioned before which basically confirms what i already thought. while bourne may have been off the grid, he didn’t just stick his head in the sand. he kept tabs. he knew what was going on.
everyone thinks bourne wants to take down the cia. ‘you exposed blackbriar’ BECAUSE OF HIRSCH !! because he killed marie. bourne was making a point. he was sending a message. do not fuck with me.
i need to figure out how much of the bourne’s dad storyline from this movie i’m gonna use. i gotta figure out how to mix bourne’s history from the novels with the movies...... yeah. i should do that.
p much everyone that meets bourne: i’m gonna try to kill him. in the words of the wise pam landy: trying to kill him and failing only pisses him off.
bourne def could’ve gotten out of this mess if he hadn’t answered the phone at dassault’s place. and he knew it. he almost walked away. so close. but he wants to know who keeps doing this to him. he always wants to know who and why.
he’s so far from believing the ‘you’re a patriot fighting for your country’ spiel people keep selling him it’s not even funny. like at one point yes, he was that kind of soldier. but that was a long time ago and you’ve fucked him over a good 3 or 4 times since then so nah. ain’t buying that bullshit.
it really speaks to how good bourne is that he continues to best the cia’s assets that are part of these programs supposedly better than treadstone. these assets are supposed to be better than him. they’re supposed to be improvements. he still wins. he’s better than they ever could’ve known.
‘leaving the program could haunt him’ ‘desperately looking’ ‘he’s at a tipping point’ bourne just: no. stop. leaving the program is what i’ve wanted this whole damn time. i don’t want anything to do with it anymore. what i did in the program haunts me. you haunt me. stop it.
the lil bit of grey in his hair thing works so very well for him. unf.
bourne’s driving factor behind everything in these movies is just figuring out what the hell is going on. who am i? who are you? what do you want? why won’t you leave me alone? why are you doing this to me?
i wish they played up the ‘chameleon’ thing more in these movies. they just kinda touch on it. barely. but that’s one of bourne’s defining traits in the books. his ability to disappear instantly in any situation. he become another person in a matter of seconds. that was his strength. his invisibility.
i like when people think they’re in control of a situation with bourne. like they know he’s coming. they have a plan. they got this. and bourne’s just lol nope. in everything after identity, if you’re dealing with bourne, you’re playing his game.
director dewey does get one thing right: there is no bringing in bourne.
bourne knows how people work. he knows how to elicit the reaction he wants. he knows how to manipulate people to tip the odds in his favor and play into his plans.
he honestly has no problem hurting people. it would be easy to think that he’d want to go against what he did as an asset, but he knows that that’s who he is now and he can’t fight it. so he’ll use it. that’s how he makes money on the run: people betting on fights.
the movies make it seem like bourne was just a good lil soldier before the treadstone program. ‘your father didn’t want you turned into a killer’.... shit son ! in the books that man was a cold blooded s.o.b. covered in so much blood you couldn’t tell he was a man anymore.
bourne texts in all caps. i love it. the subtext of ‘pay attention to me dammit’ is so strong.
he’s v good at flying by the seat of his pants, changing plans on the fly.
did you know a baseball cap is the greatest disguise? no one recognizes you in a baseball cap.
cia: we have to be ready for bourne. we’re gonna kill him. bourne: looks into the camera like on the office. he’s standing 10 feet away.

all i see when Vincent Cassel is on screen is that thief from the ocean’s movies and i’m like wait no. that’s not right. that’s the wrong trilogy. this isn’t linus. this is bourne!
i wish they’d put a little more of a backstory between vincent’s character and bourne. i feel like that last huge fight/chase scene between them is... idk. i’m just not feeling it.

i’m really not a fan of the ending of this movie. they make it look like jason actually considers coming in. like it’s an option. and i just don’t think it is. i can’t see that.
i do however buy him putting the blame of killing the director on himself rather than let heather take the fall. that fits. that i’m okay with.
yeah. as epic as the final chase/fight scene is with jason and the other asset.... i’m just not feeling it. it’s a great scene, but story wise i don’t like it. it’s too far away from bourne’s style. he’s all about invisibility. he could’ve slipped out from the hotel undetected and disappeared like he always does. it doesn’t fit. its too dramatic. too long. plus. like i said, i want more backstory between the two of them.
i will grant that the style of that final face to face fight gives me life tho. it’s dark. it’s dirty. it gives me book bourne vibes which is so great. like jason bourne is one tough son of a bitch and a badass mofo. and dammit he can take more hits than you would believe. he survives.
and jason flipping the tables on lee when she thinks she’s got him figured out is great. bourne knows. bourne always knows. you can’t play the player. this is his game. ‘i have his trust’ lol girl u cray.
