“Toh-” She couldn’t complete her sentence under a single breath, and it lagged on once she realized she was held by the dragon (quite tightly). “ru?…” So, they weren’t lying to her after all. They did bring everyone to this bizarre world that was supposed to be their new home. Funny how they were able to do that; she wouldn’t exactly call it fate (as she was not one to firmly believe in it), but this was certainly more than a coincidence. 

Normally, she would have shoved her off and tell her to keep a distance between them, but the fact that she, too, was concerned about the dragon allowed her to be tolerable for this one time. With her grasp weakening around her, she was able to properly breathe again and eventually gave her a smile in return.

“I’m glad that you seem to be alright, I was beginning to worry that I’d never see you again.” She responded coolly, although she couldn’t help but be irked at the fact that the dragon was worried about her cheating (as if they were actually married in the first place).

“You sound like a middle-aged wife now… But anyway, I won’t mind if you get along with whoever you’re assigned to. You are assigned to them, so… I don’t think it would benefit you if you decided to ignore them.”

What was this? Miss Kobayashi wasn’t rejecting her advances?! She must have missed her! Well, of course, she missed her! They were lovers, weren’t they? Who could be apart from their lover for that long... Well, it hadn’t been that long, but it was definitely long enough. Especially after everything they’ve gone through recently. Really, she just wanted to relax and meet her parents and then maybe ask for their approval on a marriage proposal...

Still, they were here now and they were together! That’s all that mattered! And planning a wedding took a pretty long time! Plus, she should probably talk to the woman in question about it first rather than just fantasizing to herself.

Without any scolding to stop her, Tohru snuggled in closer. 

“Oh, just leave all the worrying to me, Miss Kobayashi! I mean, if anyone ever tried to separate us again, I’d kill ‘em!”

Everyone here was pretty lucky they’d reunited so quickly, otherwise Tohru might have gone on a rampage.

“But you’re my master! I’m sure they just made a mistake. We should go talk to whoever’s in charge and straighten it out, okay? Wait- you didn’t answer my question, Miss Kobayashi... Don’t think you can charm your way out of this one! Although, of course, you know you make me swoon no matter what you do!”

Ah, why does he have to be a responsible adult already? It’s not that Phoenix hates groceries in general, but… he doesn’t recognize any of these brands! It took him so long to memorize which ones to buy at which prices and now his mental organization has been thrown into space!

Forget the whole ‘end of the world’ thing, THIS is the true challenge here.

Thankfully, looks like he’s not alone at this. Someone else- (Ah, this must be one of those ‘scalies’ that were popular online during my college days. Never thought I’d see one in real life!) -seemed to be having similar doubts.

Undortunately, he wasn’t expecting her reply, not that it’d have helped anyway. “Yen? Like in Jap- Gold pieces?!” (Who even uses those outside of Dungeons and Dragons nowadays?!)

She nodded, not really taking in his surprised response at all. It was a perfectly normal thing to be asking, after all. Especially in a place like this, in a situation like this. Humans could be rather silly, huh?

“Mm. I was living in Japan before all this so I’d gotten pretty comfortable with using yen, but I guess I’d say gold pieces are the standard, don’t you think? I mean, if we’re talking about societies with exchange systems like this rather than bartering... I could just steal it and it’d be free, but that seems pretty rude to the shopkeepers... Still, I’m a little worried about overspending, you know? Plus, I don’t know what days they have sales here like do they still have Meat Days on the 29th of each month?” 

The words coming out of her mouth switched between making no sense at all to sounding like a thrifty housewife. Well, that was just Tohru for you.

He narrows his eyes at the freshly baked loaf of broad through the glass pane, scrutinizing each and every detail. Suddenly an ordinary woman – she resembled a draph, he thinks – bolts past him…evidently upset about something. “Oi!” 

“What’s troubling you?” Asked brusquely, but not maliciously. 

Oh, come on! Why didn’t that work?! Tohru turned around, pointing a finger at herself like, who, me? But she knew. She knew the who was you, or the you was her, or whatever. 

“A-Ah! Nothing. Nope, not a thing! Well, actually, I’m running late for this thing so you see I really should be on my way, not that it’s anything important like destroying a whole town or something, it’s really just um. A thing.”

to say she was adjusting to such an environment would be putting it in a sweet manner, she still had no clue where she was wandering, only certain on the location of her room. though, those shes come across lately seem more dangerous than anything ( a mental note to herself ). fingers toyed with the phone that lacked much of anything, just a sense of familiarity. ( their contacts were still there but any attempt to call resulted in a dead number .. )  

a sigh, why was she even lingering on that? whatever it is, she’s sure yumeko and suzui are fine, well namely yumeko. 

the sight wasn’t something she had exactly expected ( why did she have expectations in this place again? anything could happen yet why is she so startled? ) she could turn around and ignore the sight entirely but that’s not how she was. she was going to pass through this way. 

❛  hey  —  you’re blocking the road. have your crisis on the sidewalk or something.  ❜  words came naturally from her sharp tongue yet in the end, there was a very faint sense of understanding. ( she just wanted to go home. )

“Well, I would go somewhere else, anywhere else, but obviously that isn’t working!”

Tohru yelled, as if it was somehow this girl’s fault. She knew it wasn’t, but look, it’s just so frustrating, okay? And also, she could definitely teleport to the sidewalk or like... walk over there, but that wasn’t the point. Still, she didn’t want to deal with anyone else complaining, not that she cared if she was in the way. She just cared that they were bothering her.

So, she turned and opened a portal, proceeding to walk into it and appear out of another portal just steps away on the sidewalk. It was completely unnecessary.

“There! Are you happy? Now I’ll block people who walk over here! Or maybe you’d prefer it if I just sent you to the other side of town?”

Oh, Miss Kobayashi was absolutely going to love this little welcome basket she’d prepared, she just knew it! She even managed to sneak some of her tail into a few of the cookies and surely, she wouldn’t notice. Ah, she’d finally eat it and realize what she’s been missing! And then she would realize Tohru was the most amazing maid ever and that they didn’t need any of this Master and Servant stuff and they’d get married and be together forever!

It’s with those thoughts that Tohru opened the door to Miss Kobayashi’s new home in this universe, smiling even as she cursed those higher ups for separating her and her love. But... Miss Kobayashi wasn’t there. That would be fine, she could prep everything, maybe lie down on the bed waiting for her... But the room wasn’t empty. There was another person there. Another girl. Her clothes didn’t necessarily look like what Tohru thought a maid should look like, but she had been wrong about Georgie too. Was this... was Miss Kobayashi actually cheating on her? And possibly with another maid?!

The basket fell from her hands, and her smile turned sinister as she bared her teeth.

“Just who exactly are you? And what are you doing with my dear Kobayashi?!”

Upon spotting a human in armor, Tohru’s body tensed up. She had spotted some here and there, but it was finally starting to sink in. She could take him easily on her own, but... If there were that many humans, and humans from her world... they could band together as they had in the past. Maybe that’s really why she was brought here? 

Still, she couldn’t reveal herself just yet. She had no idea if he had allies hiding all over, just waiting to strike. Instead, she walked by him, glaring and obviously upset. Totally not suspicious in any way.

This was a difficult decision. Probably one of the most difficult she’s ever made. It’s come up before, definitely, but... that didn’t make it any easier.

“It should be something really good, to get her mind off everything... But I don’t know how money works here or how much I’ll really have... But she deserves the best! Still, this is...”

Tohru glanced between the two different chickens, one clearly better, but also pricier. She didn’t even realize she was blocking another shopper for a moment, but when she did, she turned and gave him an apologetic smile.

“Ah, sorry! Do you, uh... maybe know what these prices would be in yen? Or gold pieces. Either works.”

Tohru stood in the middle of the street, interrupting any foot traffic trying to pass by. However, most people just turned around when they saw her trying desperately to open up portals and magic circles and the like. The more frustrated she got, the more she tried to put into it, complete with weird poses. Unfortunately, nothing was working. She could make a portal. That was easy. It could go from one district to the other and there’d be nothing to worry about. But as soon as she tried going anywhere else, it just wouldn’t cooperate with her, whether she was trying to go to Miss Kobayashi’s apartment or even her own world. Tohru punched the air in front of her, and clearly that did nothing either. 

“Gah! Why won’t you work!”

Somehow Tohru had made her way into the entertainment district, even though she was just planning on buying some carrots. And while she would have left and been on her way, a manager from a nearby maid cafe had spotted her and seemed to think she was trying to skip work.  And now she was surrounded by her fellow maids, trying to drag her back to the pits of maid capitalism.

Tohru fervently waved her arms as she protested,

“No, no, you have the wrong idea! I’m not- Well, I am- No, I’m not cosplaying! I’m a real maid, I’ll have you know!”

It didn’t matter what world they were in. She was her light after all. No matter how long you spent in darkness, you’d always find a light eventually, even if it might take a while. Of course, this didn’t take too long since Tohru immediately started looking for Miss Kobayashi upon her arrival. And when she did find her, she didn’t waste a moment, jumping onto her with a big dragon hug.

“Miss Kobayashi!”

She fully expected to be pushed off any second now, but Tohru clinged for as long as she could. Her mouth widened into a grin and it was clear she was overjoyed to have found her. Still, now that that was out of the way...

“Can you believe this? I have some other master apparently! They obviously messed up since you’re the only master for me, Miss Kobayashi! Don’t worry, I won’t even bother with that phoney! Wait, do you... do you have another servant, Miss Kobayashi? You wouldn’t cheat on me, would you?!”
