"Istanbul had a rich heritage of independent publishing from the 1990s. If the London-based 1970s punk zine Sniffin’ Glue was an international milestone, Istanbul’s were Mondo Thrasho and Laneth. These DIY publications took different aesthetic routes and were claimed by different scenes, but both started with the same idea.*” In Turkey, that same ideas is still going on and growing up with different approaches and interests on zines. Turkey has a long tradition of censorship but Zines are documents and snapshots of society without the censored voice. Heyt be! Fanzin is an art zine which published since 2010 by Deniz Beşer & Sedef Karakas. Main aim of Heyt be! is based on searching the alternative exhibition possibilities on zine form. All issues host artists from different countries. Zine is distributed to 7 different countries like Turkey, Austria, Spain, Canada, Brazil so on. . The exhibition displays Heyt be! Fanzin’s chronolgy, some selected zines and other forms of self publications from Turkey, going back to the 1990s to today

Gemeinwohl 2: Demokratie zwischen Utopie und Unbehagen

2-16 June, 2018 Kuratorinnen: Magdalena Fritsch und Sophie Lingg Das von Sophie Lingg und Magdalena Fritsch geschriebene „Gesetz des Gemeinwohls“ (2017) setzt sich zum Ziel, populistischen Strömungen entgegenzuwirken. Diesem Gesetz folgend werden u.a. künstlerische Arbeiten von Luka Jana Berchtold, Deniz Beşer, Sezer Dilan Zırhlı sowie das WUNSCH.AMT, die NSU-Spots und die Hefte von Nase Zine präsentiert, die sich mit aktuellen Sichtweisen auf die Gesellschaft, konkret mit Migration, Selbstermächtigung und Medien, auseinandersetzen. Die in der Ausstellung vertretenen künstlerischen Positionen fungieren damit allesamt als Beitrag zum Themenkomplex „Gemeinwohl“, indem sie im Ausstellungsraum in Bezug zu den nachhallenden Spuren des während des Ausstellungszeitraums stattfindenden Gesprächs gesetzt werden. Veranstaltungen der Shedhalle Tübingen Schlachthausstraße 13, 72074 Tübingen, Germany Ausstellungseröffnung Samstag, den 12. August 2017 ab 20 Uhr Die beiden Künstler Deniz Beşer und Johannes Stahl (Joe Made This) werden den Abend über anwesend sein. Zur Eröffnung werden großflächig Wandbemalungen als Teil der Ausstellung direkt vor Ort entstehen. René Renitent (Transmission e.V., Stuttgart) legt Punk in allen Variationen auf den Plattentellern auf. Hat die moderne Kunstentwicklung mit der Pop Art einen programmatischen Bezug zum Alltäglichen und Trivialen gefunden, entwickelten divergente Subkulturen und subversive Lebensformen in ihrer künstlerischen Ausdrucksweise diese Richtung weiter und veränderten sie. Ausgehend von der Idee des Do it yourself (DIY), des autodidaktischen Selbermachens, ermutigte beispielsweise Punk zwischen selbstauferlegten Restriktionen und erzwungenem Nonkonformismus zu künstlerischem Schaffen innerhalb eigener Maßstäbe. In ständiger Auseinandersetzung mit sich und ihrer Umwelt, entziehen sich diese künstlerischen Arbeiten einer einseitiger Zuschreibung. Die Ausstellung stellt Künstler:innen vor, die subkulturell sozialisiert wurden und gibt damit Einblicke in zeitgenössische Kunstformen, die diesem heterogenen Bereich zuzurechnen sind. Zusätzlich gibt es eine Bücherecke vom Ventil Verlag mit ausgewählten Titeln zum Thema.

Nase Zine 05 Exhibition & Zine Release Party

Nase Zine is a photocopy magazine (fanzine), founded by Deniz Beşer, La Garçonne and Muzaffer Hasaltay Du von Jetzt. It is published in three languages German, Turkish and English. We understand the Zine and its events as a point for a get-together of the Vienna based Turkish and post-migration subcultural scene. Topic of the Nase Zine's 5th issues is ''gender''. What does the social category gender mean? Why are these templates of separation and conflict existing? Is there such a think like ''normality''? What about the people who have to complete official forms and do not know if they should tick with "f" or "m"? What about the people who are overseen or especially perceived, because they do not correspond to normalized gender perceptions? How did the social construct gender changed its shape throughout the history? Which struggles and resistance did the also appear against this social pressure? Why are identity politics also functioning as an important tool? Of course, it is hard to  give sharp and totally right information on this senstive topic but the the artists of Nase Zine's 5th issue will try sharing their ideas and thoughts freely. Our independent publication Nase Zine was one of particapants of ''Hypermigrationculture'' exhibition in Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

Nase Zine is a photocopy magazine (fanzine), founded by  La Garçonne, Es Eflatus, Deniz Beşer and Du von Jetzt- Muzaffer Hasaltay. Published in three languages German, Turkish and English.

The Name of the Zine is inspired by the phrase "to stick your nose in..." which exists in Turkish ('herşeye burnunu sokmak'') as well as in German ("die Nase in etwas stecken"). The collective of Nase Zine wants to share with you the joy of sticking your nose in a lot of things.

Our music-performance band Zoomk-Ru-Tu were part of video shoot by Kamen Stoyanov in near to Istanbul 3rd airport construction area. Also, we did a special music compositions for his project. The video art project that we featured in GPL Contemporary, Vienna  and WRO Media Art Biennale in Wroclaw, Poland forthe exhibition.

New Istanbul Dream investigates the construction side of the New Istanbul Airport. It will be the third airport in Istanbul, situated North West of the city on the black sea coast. Before the starting of the construction, the area has been home to villagers, animals and vegetation. Now the area is

home to Erdogan big dream: the biggest airport of the world. The film is showing the transformation from these two types of homelands: from personal to national.

This is happening in different ways and layers. The films consists of documentary shots showing the changing of the environment through the construction works. A performative layer based on the traditional Karagöz shadow play structurs the movie. This layer opens a space of an imaginary and activist movement.

The sound includes records from the construction side and the surrounding area, as well as a questionary of the IGA, Istanbul Grand Airport company. This is answered by an inhabitant of the village Akpinar an. There are also records from people from the villages around the airport talking about their dreams and wishes connected to their home. The movie ends with a special adaptation of a popular song by a lokal Turkish punk band Zoomk-Ru-Tu in the setting of the airport.

RADICAL LOVE HAPPENING is to create a space and time for people interested in anti-racist, queer- feminist and decolonial agendas and performance art. Next to its artistical approach its focus is on a socioplitical impact based on the idea of happenings. It is a collective event to engage in community, friendship, care, solidarity and love. It is interrogating on the modern ideas of bringing together life and art. Yet, I also understand it as political as an urge for supporting each other, pushing emancipatory discourse and grow through exchange and taking care of each other in a space that we want to create as safe as possible. Due to a rational criticality of race, gender, class, sexuality and coloniality we feel a kind of need to value our feelings, stories and relations first and foremost in order to develop everyones auto-realization. In this sense RADICAL LOVE HAPPENING is a public event but reserves exclusiveness for its mentioned ambitions and will be spread among friends and comrades. It will be located at the studio of Walter Ego, Petz in Kalvarienberggasse 19. Rethinking Heritage Opening: 05.05.2017 (4:30 pm) Exhibition: 05.05.2017 – 21.05.2017 (Each Friday, Saturday 1 – 5 pm) The objects that emerged as a result of the 3-dimensional collage workshop "Rethinking Heritage" organized by EFOLT Projects in collaboration with Bilgi University Communication Faculty, 3Dortgen and BLOK art space will be seen in May 05.05.2017 - 21.05.2017 in BLOK art space Büyük Valide Han. The exhibition will consist of the physical productions of the digital models that the participants of the workshop prepare in the context of the problems they face during the design process. Can digital objects produced and reused by 3D abstraction and collage techniques be re-interpreted through subjective and social values ​​of physicality? How does desire of physicality affect and shape the experiential aura on the objects of the cyber space that is provided by such re-production techniques? The exhibition aims to demonstrate how participants are integrating subjective and social values ​​of objects into formalist methods and how the cyber space can revitalize this physical experience in its own circumstances. Our aim is to discover how the reminiscence of social inheritance objects, which exist as numerical data, can conceptualize the value concept and how it can be reconstructed through various interaction and production methods. A 3D printer will be installed in the exhibition space by 3Dortgen and will be experienced by the viewers in order to emphasize the effect of the transformation of the works designed in the Rethinking Heritage workshop on the ecology of Büyük Valide Han. Exhibition can be seen every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12.00 – 17.00 between 5th of May and 19th, 2017. #Attention Wars

The internet is the ally as well the center of #ridiculousness. The internet can offer both survival strategies and a sea of endless #stupidity and #absurdity. It supplies manifold possibilities as a tool for #political empowerment and likewise for #self-display and #longing for appreciation. In times of #crisis and #Trumpism, the internet is a platform for #radical politics but simultaneously for #histrionic behaviour.

Contemporary Turkey is shaped by terror, civil war, environmental destruction, bizarre laws, and populism. Istanbul is #chaos, #beauty and #melancholy, with its mega projects, growing population, and political oppression. But of course Turkey is not the only country where the #nightmare of populism escalates.

#Attention Wars in any given sense are present in populisms, consumerism, and #battlefields of social media. It might be funny and sad at the same time, but we desperately need humour to survive this #shit.

#About Deniz Beşer 

Beşer's practice could be defined as working within a space between painting, zine, photography, music, video, and ready-mades. All of this media is most often presented in the context of installations than as totally autonomous works. Since he is highly active in the fanzine and street art scene, his works are continually inspired by such aesthetic movements. Deniz Beşer often focuses on the absurd products of post internet pop culture, chasing internet phenomena and their protagonists, as well as portraying the silent heroes of everyday life, principally in Turkey and Austria.
