This was fantastic! Moody, rich synthpop. Here’s an artist who knows how to do weird, and knows how to make music with patience. Reminds me of Depeche Mode at their darkest. So good!!! Can’t wait to hear the newer one. 4/5

It's laid-back, bubbly, bright and very Michael Jackson's Thriller, very Stevie Wonder - definitely a recipe for success. A little more adventurous than Justin Timberlake's last record, Pharrell's new record is summery and BBQ-party ready. It's good. He's really got a lot of freedom and versatility, an expert in many flavors, soulful and electronic. Stylistically, I wish it were more raw and I think it's way too bright. Fun jams are whatever, but it needs to be broken up with darkness, sensuality, aggression. I'll take it in doses. 3/5 Highlights : "Marilyn Monroe" "Gust of Wind" (Feat. Daft Punk) - Favorite. Respectable, timeless EDM with a firm understanding of all things electronic - house, drum n bass, dubstep, trance, pop and more. It's infectious and immediately accessible, while maintaining an oldschool rave feel, with a star powered list of collaborators. Plenty of variety, never get's dull. Addicting and will seriously lift a dancefloor up. 4/5 Highlights : "Safe in Sound" - Incredible Passion Pit sample! "Turn Back Time" - Feels like oldschool Moby. Fave. "Until The End" "Out of Reach" "Endorphins" "Turn it Around" "Out the Blue"
I'm a little disappointed in this one. There are lots of good tracks, but no great tracks, which might normally be OK for any other band, but not Foster the People. My expectations were sky-high. The first record was so good, I guess most anything following that would be a disappointment. The production here is tight, the songs are digable...just sounds a little uninspired. This is OK. It's mostly a straightforward R&B / soul record. There's nothing really wrong with it, she actually really excels in sounding fresh and tasteful, but I find this one a whole lot less adventurous than the last. I'm also pretty disappointed there aren't any Guetta produced gay dance jams, after "When Love Takes Over" and "Commander" were so massive! Maybe that kind of thing isn't really where her passion is, and that's fine. As a whole I find this record mostly forgettable though. When I think of Astralwerks, I think of top-tier greats like The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. I'm glad to say Tensnake fits the bill. While heavy on the house music, it's diverse, calculated, creative. The production is super top-notch and professional. I think die-hard fans of Disclosure will have to seriously consider Tensnake as a possible superior. Sassy, runway ready, distinctively European raver shit. A spiritual revival of the sleaziest Prince-led soud from the 80s, this record is leagues better than the last. There's been a fusion of indie 80s styled electro and poppy R&B with outfits like Little Dragon, The Weeknd, and Twin Shadow. It's refreshing and classic at once. The sex appeal here is turned way up, reminding me of 80s late night TV decadence like Silk Stalkings or something, with a touch of house and jazz sensibilities. On the indie sounding tip it gives me a touch of Mount Sims at times. This was OK. They have preserved their minimalist synthpop sound from the 80s so well, you might not know these tracks were modern ones when you first hear them. Men Without Hats had a similar approach with their last record, and I loved it. I listen to this one, and I'm mostly underwhelmed. It's too simple and stripped, not weird enough, and doesn't get under my skin like old OMD stuff did. I need that creepy, on edge OMD, there's some of that here, but not enough. It's a shame, since these guys have such high standing status. 2/5

Welp, my face is melted. Hide is both viscerally aggressive and hauntingly pretty. I already expected this to make my inner raver want to thrash around and break stuff, but what strikes me most about this is just how definitively urban it is. It's got that beautiful nighttime melancholy you feel when you're looking at a big city from a rooftop. It's magical, violent, dynamic, and never boring. 4/5

This comes off as cool, confident, and a little self indulgent. It might not gain that many new fans, there are no hits that slay as hard as "1901", but it will please old ones for sure. There are easy going, loungy dance jams, arena sized rockers, all groovy with hooks that are fun to sing. 3/5

10 years ago (can you believe it?), futurepop supergroup Bruderschaft rocked the EBM world with "Forever". A project with such high standards and high-profile contributors had never existed like this since Pigface, and the track "Forever" proved as perfect as could be expected. Now they're back with more collaborative artists, and and ENTIRE album. It's exciting enough to make your head explode!!! It's unfortunately not as completely untouchable as I expected, having some tracks that just don't seem to maintain that super-high standard, but even the moments that aren't great are still good. The strongest moments here are what really matter though. They remind me of the time when futurepop was first getting it's strength, with songs that were more than just hits - they were anthems. They were synthpop tracks you could take with you to your grave and still be in love with them. 4/5

"The Things That Dreams are Made Of" (Feat. Andylab of Syrian) - I'm an enormous Human League fan. This cover doesn't improve on the original, but it does make it more appropriate for a spooky dancefloor.
Everyone's sick of hearing about Miley, but this was pretty good!! It mostly sounds like oldschool Rihanna, but there's enough diversity and creativity on here to keep it from sounding like a rip-off. The heavier hip hop use here doesn't bother me, I think it sounds hot. She sounds comfortable on her mid-tempo party jams, the ballads are dark and (delightfully) weird. It still unfortunately has an air of immaturity on it, and sometimes her voice gets close to being annoying, so I think this album is best in doses. I like it though!! 3/5

Goa and eastern styles of trance are super popular now, and there are lots of new, contemporary artists adopting the sound Juno Reactor was at the forefront of. While this album could have gone in a more trance-community friendly, modern direction, instead it keeps with the heart of Juno Reactor with it's drama and cinematic images. Most fans are happy with this, but I'd like to see some mind-blowingly different sides of Juno Reactor, not the same ol same ol. Adopting the world sound gives them a massive palette, and I don't feel like they're taking full advantage of it. 2.5/5

I'm a huge fan. They really can do no wrong in my eyes. This album is pretty much what any fan would expect, with some housey piano that reminds me of late 90s Moby, and maybe it's a step in a more easygoing, effortless kind of direction. Where previous albums had stark, studied surprises, on this one they just jam. This is OK because they're so good they don't have to try very hard, but it does fall a little short of In Ghost Colors and Zonoscope. Still exceptional, well above average, and I'll be listening to it a ton. It will take you high!! 4.5/5

A pleasant surprise! While I've liked recent Skinny Puppy releases, they left something to be desired. They've been sleepy and muddy. This one on the contrary is cleaned up, melodic and more easily accessible, and heavier on the synths. On top of that, it's got a classic 80s Skinny Puppy feel to it too, reminds me of the "Smothered Hope" days. It will sound great in dance clubs, and will hopefully ease the doubts of their fickle fanbase. 4/5
