Kristine Froseth in The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair (2018—)
lucvweasley:
who: astrid delacour-dubois ( @delacourdubois ). where: lucy’s house, dining room. when: august 8th, 2023. 14:35.
“thanks for coming over,” lucy smiled as she looked over at astrid, papers, books and pens spread out in front of them on the table. she had asked the other girl over to do some summer homework together, due to the fact that lucy always had difficulty with history of magic. thing was, she found the subject interesting, but for some reason, it simply didn’t stick in her head. “i’m so glad you were made a prefect too. this year’s batch seems pretty good so far, if i do say so myself. but yes, this goblin rebellion? do you know what page of this book i’m even supposed to find the answer in?”
she looked up from the book she’d been skimming and smiled brightly at lucy, “yeah, it’s no problem.” she glanced back down at the book and then laid her upper across the top of the pages to keep it open. “yeah, I’m glad we both get to be prefects together.” she looked over at lucy’s book and nodded, “hm, should be on chapter ten.”
noellewood:
noah was tipped back in her chair by the time astrid got over towards her, making herself more at home now that she had something of a deterrent from the waiter. “you suppose, huh?” she questioned, a half smirk rising at her lips. “don’t sound so thrilled to help a girl out, astrid.” her body dropped slightly, her arms resting on the table in front of her now as she leaned forward, getting a bit in astrid’s space. it was a bad habit of hers, getting in closer when interacting with people, giving them her full attention whether they wanted it or not.
“enjoying your summer at any rate?” she asked, eyes flicking up to link with astrid’s. she was pretty sure astrid was doing something with the ministry, it seemed like most people were. noah herself had avoided actual responsibility and work like the plague, opting to do a grand sum of nothing with her summer. technically she had some additional summer work she had to do to get herself up to speed with classes again, but that could wait until never as far as she was concerned.
“no, I didn’t mean it--” she shook her head vehemently, her words falling away as noah put herself into her space over the table. she hadn’t meant it as though it had been too much effort to help noah, she just felt as though she hadn’t done much for her to be thankful for. she let out a sigh, releasing the tension in her shoulders as noah locked her gaze with hers, and pushed herself slightly off the table so that they weren’t so close.
“oh. yeah, it’s been quite nice, actually.” she nodded. of course, she’d felt all too restless all summer. she’d already finished most of her summer homework and had tried to get a jump on some of next year’s classes, knowing what to expect by asking some of her family members what they’d done in their own classes. even though she had the internship keeping her busy, she still felt rather unproductive without going to classes every day, which made her feel as though she needed to do something, but having nothing to actually do. she thought about every moment she retreated into her art room and remembered that she still had some paint splattered across her ankle that she had only noticed that morning. she thought about pulling down her pant leg, but she feared she was going to bring attention to it. “I hope you’ve had a good summer as well.” she tilted her chin inwards and rose her eyebrows and smiled, wanting to pull the attention away from her.
irisparkinscn:
who: astrid delacour-dubois ( @delacourdubois ). where: the normal brothers: an ironic riff on the weird sisters with eclectic clothes & upcoming designers. run by three sisters. located in wizarding glasgow. (thank you, jane!) when: august 8th, 2023. 09:35.
the shop had just opened, and iris was already making her way into it. technically, she couldn’t afford anything at the moment, but she could at least gather some inspiration and perhaps look in second-hand stores for items she could turn into something she’d love to wear. walking through the aisles of clothes, she grinned as she gently felt all the textures with her hands, admiring the work of these upcoming designers. so absorbed by the clothes, she didn’t even notice there was someone else in the aisle before she bumped into them. “oh my god, i’m so sorry,” she exclaimed, before looking between the blonde and the item of clothing she was looking at. “okay, but like… you need that. it’d look so good on you. especially with those shoes close to the door. did you see them? come on, i’ll show you.”
walking down the aisle of clothing, astrid was awash with a sense of calm that came exclusively when she was doing something that she particularly enjoyed. clothing was like art, in astrid’s opinion, and although she didn’t really have the time nor the desire to go shopping every day, she enjoyed adding more items to her collection and figuring out how to pair her items in ways that expressed who she was and her artistic vision. the clothes at the normal brothers were phenomenal, in astrid’s opinion. one dress in particular had particularly caught her eye. the velvet, rouje style light pink dress was unlike anything she’d seen in other shops. she let her fingers drag along the waist line of the dress, the feeling of velvet beneath her feet bringing back scenes of home and comfort-- “oh!” she exclaimed when iris bumped into her, jolting her out of her thoughts. the shock had barely worn off when the girl started speaking again. astrid looked at her, a bit confused before she remembered the dress she’d been admiring. “uhm, alright then.” she gave a curt nod and picked up the dress from the rack, a bit afraid at the idea of following the seventh year even though they were just walking across the shop floor.
mcgnifiques:
“you’re a lifesaver.” his smile clearly showed his relief, and he hoped that astrid knew he meant every word of it. “really — thank you. i, uh, i know fashion isn’t my strongest suit, but … you know, i was really stumped here.” he couldn’t help but laugh at his misfortune. that had to be a good sign, right? “yeah, mum and i are gonna go, uh, someday? whenever the stars align and we manage a little bit of free time.”
“it’s not a problem,” she smiled up at him and took a step back, examining her work. if she’d dressed him herself, he would’ve looked much better, but she could say that the slight modifications she’d made were definitely improvements. “fashion can always be learned, though. well, if your mum doesn’t mind, I’d be happy to take you shopping some day after work and share my tips and tricks with you, if you’d like.”
cleosbun:
Great. Cleo audibly groaned when she noticed who she was now being forced to share an elevator with, leaning her head back against the back wall of the lift. She was already having a shitty enough day as it was; her mother was away visiting the Spanish ministry for a couple days, and without Susan there to wake her up it had been easy for Cleo to sleep far later than she’d intended and scramble into the Ministry lobby approximately half an hour after reporting time. It was just one of those days when all she wanted was to crawl back into bed and not have to deal with people at all.
If she didn’t want to speak to anyone, she certainly did not want to interact with Astrid and the stick that was surely so far up her arse that there was no possibility of ever retrieving it. Still, it might lift Cleo’s mood a little to get a rise out of her. Especially when it was so easy.
“What, going to give me detention for daring to breathe the same air as Miss Perfect? We’re not at school yet, Barbie.”
she let out a disbelieving sigh of a laugh as she rolled her eyes and tilted her chin upward. sacré bleu, astrid hated how cleo seemed to have just a knack for getting on her nerves, even at moments when she wasn’t already frustrated.
she shook her head and looked over her shoulder at the other slytherin and noted how she was leaning against the back of the lift and the way she just seemed to exude a lack of care that just annoyed her even further. “there isn’t a rule against it yet, unfortunately.” she finally turned her body toward the raven-haired girl and lifted her chin, looking at her down the length of her nose. “but I’m sure you’ll end up breaking some type of rule in your first week back from break, yeah?” barbie? was that really who she reminded cleo of? she was sure it was meant as insult, but she didn’t understand how it related to her. fuck, stop that, astrid chastised herself for letting cleo get in her head like that. again.

noellewood:
Noah was growing steadily used to the idea that being foreign was bound to garner attention for her. She was out in London proper at a small cafe off the river, rolling her eyes as the waiter leaned over on her table, trying to flirt. Whether it was her accent or her general vibe he was trying to latch on to, Noah simply wasn’t interested. She was much too gay for it and much too tired to deal with politely getting the guy out of her space.
Head lifting up with irritation from the food she was trying to eat, her eyes caught sight of someone familiar - someone from school. Though she had been doing her damnedest to avoid anyone and everyone from school for quite some time, this seemed like the time to break that. “Oi, mate, over here,” she called out, loudly, waving them down to come sit at the table with her.
“Ah, ace, thanks. He was getting a little too close for comfort.”
astrid started a little bit at being called at after just entering the café, her thoughts focused on whether or not she wanted an americano or a café au lait and whether not she actually had time to settle and drink her coffee and read like she’d wanted to because she did have to head off home soon-- when those thoughts were interrupted. not instantly, of course, but her eyes wandered to the voice that had called out and saw that someone --no, not someone, noah-- was waving her down. she bit her lip, turned to the café’s menu, and then turned back to noah and headed in her direction.
she smiled politely at the waiter, giving him a slight nod before she settled into the chair before noah. she hadn’t thought much of him, but when noah spoke again, she turned back to the now retreating waiter, narrowing her eyes for a few seconds before she pushed herself back into the chair and looked toward noah. “oh,” she started, “you’re welcome, I suppose.”
vagarics:
“I’m so sorry, let me help you!” Like most things in her life, Cassie’s first solo trip to Diagon Alley started with a bang — particularly in the form of her, in an uncharacteristic show of clumsiness, tripping on a loose cobblestone and taking an entire showcase of trinkets to the ground. She had the tendency of falling into places like a meteor, but didn’t actually expect to see a sort of purpleish powder react with Belladonna fluid and cause a tiny, tiny explosion. That was precisely why you just didn’t buy potion ingredients off the streets (and probably why essential oils were so en vogue back home). Alas, she would have been slightly less embarrassed if such an outcome was intended, which it usually was, but not that day. Therefore she kept walking nonchalantly, trying, for once, to blend into the crowd. “Circe! That was A+ brainlessness.” Of course she didn’t expect an answer, but they day was so far throwing her expectations out the window. It was only 9am.
“it was quite a show,” astrid replied, her strides matching the blonde’s own as she moved further into the crowd. she’d been standing at a nearby table when she’d heard the falling of trinkets behind her, and had turned to watch what had happened. she gestured to the merchant she’d been speaking with and had hurried over to the stall, picking a few items up until her hand had come and hovered over the cellphone that she assumed had to have been the blonde’s. should she go into the crowd? she’d already be gone by then, wouldn’t she be? should she even look for her? what would she even say? she didn’t want to start anything, after all. still, she’d picked up the phone and straightened back up, looking for a head of blonde hair. she’d been about to give up when she had thought she’d seen the person she was looking for. she’d hurried into the crowd, hoping the others who’d come to help wouldn’t notice she was gone. she had maneuvered between people, putting a hand up and mumbling ‘excuse me’’s as she went until she’d arrived beside the other girl. “but you might not want to leave your phone behind at a scene you’re trying to disappear from, yeah?” she lifted it up beside her face and raised an eyebrow.
when: 8 august where: ministry elevator who: @cleosbun
astrid returned to the elevator at a hurried pace, letting out a puff of frustration as she shuffled the pages inside the folder, looking them over to make sure that the employee she’d had to argue had actually given her the right folder this time. she knew she didn’t have a right be angry at him, but his mistake had made one of her coworkers just as, if not more, frustrated, and had, in turn, made her feel just the same. she had to make sure this was the proper folder, or else she didn’t know what her coworker would end up doing and she truly did not want to find out, having enough to bear already.
she was still fumbling over the papers when the elevator finally arrived and she stepped inside, pushing the button for her floor and glancing up from her papers before looking back down-- then looking back up again, her eyes falling on cleo as she stood beside her in the elevator. she forced herself not to let out another huff of annoyance at the sight and rolled her eyes as she turned away. could this get any worse?

“look, i liked playing dress-up in my dad’s clothes when i was little as much as the next kid!” louis sighed, seemingly defeated; though he continued on with his rant, “but i didn’t want to do it ten years later. i’m nearly an adult and here i am, wearing my dad’s stuff from the nineties to the ministry.” he’d recently hit a sizable growth spurt, and everything was awful for the young weasley boy. not that he’d ever been too coordinated before, he was simply ungraceful now. nothing fit and his only saving grace was that his voice had already changed and quit cracking. well, mostly.
“haven’t you heard? vintage is in.” she looked at her cousin’s clothing and began rolling the sleeve of his shirt up, “all you have to do is to make it work for you,” she looked up at him and pulled his chin upward, “and own it.” she let out a breath of a laugh and went to roll up his other sleeve. she supposed the look she’d given louis when she spotted him in his father’s clothing prompted his rant about the state of his attire, and really, it was still a bit of a shock to see him dressed this way, as it didn’t seem to suit him at all. however, she felt that might have been due to a lack of confidence rather than the attire itself. louis had seemed to sink to the ground the moment he’d seen her raised eyebrows, and that type of reaction certainly didn’t help him. “you’ve grown quite tall, haven’t you? is tante fleur taking you to the shops soon?”
lucy: i know it's 4am but
lucy: a bowl of cereal is... soup?!
astrid: uhh, no
astrid: also, why are you thinking about this at 4 in the morning?
