I cannot rightly recall the exact moment when I handed in my cowgirl hat for my motorcycle helmet, nor when I left my original family at the age of fifteen for my biker girl tribe, and then onward to parts unknown. Such finer details have absconded with the subtle passage of time. Nor can I recall when the sixteen horses on my parent’s ranch that fed on hay, oats, and grass, with the occasional apple and banana popsicle from my childhood hands, morphed into the 215 horses running on premium gas and synthetic oil that I know today. But such is the quandary that I find myself in, stretched precariously between the convergence of zenith and horizon, and the vanishing point of overwhelming loss and discovery…….. And so my existentia rages on……..in the imprisonment that is my angst, of which I both despise and endear myself to. This is my world. A menagerie of my loves and fears and memories, where you are either free to sort through…. with whimsical reverence and reverie, or leave on the floor………and so move on. Golden sunsets which blanket the cactus filled landscape in a rich golden glow. These are just a few of the reasons why I love the desert and my childhood growing up in it. This photo was taken at the beginning of 2021 during a moment where a friend of mine and I reminisced and embraced the quiet beauty of Joshua Tree. It's a place where we can all go to and experience a unique energy. A place where we all feel at peace. The desert floods my mind with endless memories and brings me much joy and gratitude as I know it does for others who have experienced their own stories to tell.
