The Porsche 754 prototype from 1960 was a forerunner of the car that became the 911. The design was by Ferry Porsche’s son, Ferdinand Alexander, who had recently joined the design office at his father’s company. The 4-seat design met all of Ferry’s requirements for a 356 replacement, with the exception of fastback styling. Thus, the 4-seat configuration was abandoned, and the development of the fastback coupé with a 2+2 seating arrangement moved forward.
