Upholsterer required

Here at Designer Workshop we have been really busy making beautiful high end bespoke upholstery. The time has come to add to our team and we are on the hunt for an experienced upholsterer to help us create our amazing sofas and chairs.

We are looking for an upholsterer, someone that has experience of cutting fabric, deep buttoning, studding, piping – in fact an all round upholsterer that is able to work to deadlines and wants to be part of a small, fun team. If you have an eye for detail and take pride in your work we would love to hear from you!

New wing chair in development

New Wing Chair!

At Designer Workshop, we are continually developing new chairs and sofas. We thought we should start sharing these with you so here is a sneak preview of our latest wing chair as we are upholstering it. Once again, we have decided to combine Harris Tweed with leather as can be seen in our New Sofas for sale, but this is a smaller version.

As with all our wing chairs, we start with a solid harwood frame which is handmade in the traditional manner and is glued, screwed and dowelled. Before upholstering the chair, Steve inserts springs in the back and then builds it up with a combination of cashmere, cotton felt and the best quality foam for that supreme comfort. I had the important task of making buttons! Steve then skilfully uses his 30 years of experience in high end upholstery by deep buttoning the back which really enhances the look of our small wing chair.

Next, Steve tackles the wings and the arms of the Wing Chair. We decided to upholster these in Old English leather which complements the Harris Tweed really well.

And that’s as far as we’ve got! I’ll post an update as the Wing Chair nears completion but do feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to buy one of our bespoke sofas or chairs!

Harris Tweed Wing Chair

Harris Tweed fabric from the Isles of Scotland to our workshop in England, this Georgian Wing Chair is classically elegant and made to last a life time.

We really do believe you will be hard pressed to find a better quality wing chair than this.

No expense has been spared in it’s upholstery. We have combined a sumptious leather with world renowned Harris Tweed fabric for supreme luxury. The deep buttoned back is also layered with cashmere hair which provided an oppulence level of comfort.

As with all our pieces, this Harris Tweed wing chair is made from sustainable European hardwood which is glued, screwed and doweled. The back and the seat is sprung, before we add our layers of filling to give you the best sit available. This really is a wonderful piece and the image does not do it justice.

This is an excellant example and quite possibly our finest upholstered wing chair to date

As we make every wing chair ourself, made to order you can specify if you wish us to make this wing chair for you in a different fabric. If you love the look, but want it all in leather we can do that too.

Introducing The Walzingham Sofa

Introducing our new upholstered sofa is the easy part, It’s the Walzingham Sofa and as you can see, it speaks for itself.

A lot of hard work went into making this sofa, the eye catching piece you can see before you. It’s life didn’t start out as the Walzingham Sofa, it was just a frame, although, even if we say it ourselves, it is a really good hardwood frame that should last a lifetime.

Hand crafted and after a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears,we had to first cut all the cushions to size then choose the right Designers Guild Fabric that was befitting for the Walzingham sofa, the vision was followed and after the cushioning went down, Steve started with fitting the Designers Guild Fabric you see before you. The result, we think is something special and is arguably the nicest upholstered sofa we have produced, but then that’s my personal preference and taste.

So it was ready, our Walzingham sofa was something to behold, a truly magnificent example of the type of quality upholstered sofa we produce.
