indian is hardly jenny's first thought when she thinks of going out to eat -- first it's always some place she can get a good breakfast or brunch meal, followed by barbecue -- but she doesn't object to padme's suggestion. she stays late at practice until their agreed upon time. she keeps on her tights, throwing a baggy sweater over them and stepping into short overalls and her doc martens to complete the outfit.

it isn't like padme to run late, and jenny is nearly about to take the appetizer order to-go when padme finally texts; jenny responds with a quick thumbs-up emoji. once she finally arrives, jenny smiles and rises to accept the quick hug. " don't worry about it; i took the liberty of ordering us samosas to start with." padme said this place was new, so samosas is really the basic test of how good an indian place is. " my shift isn't until four-thirty, so we got plenty of time."

they sit back down and jenny raises her eyebrows. " so? are we celebrating or drowning out the horrors? you said it went well...."

Squeezing Jenny briefly around the waist, Padmé then takes the seat across from her and coos happily at the news that samosas are on the way. "Oooo, perfect! Thank you." She nods at the time frame. They still have a couple of hours at least.

"Weeeell.....," she draws out the phrase before taking a sip of water and flashing a conspiratorial grin at Jenny over the rim of the glass. "I don't want to jinx it, but I really vibed with the panel that interviewed me." Setting the glass back down, she now reaches for the menu to peruse it idly. "Their client list is fascinating, and I'd get experience in the exact type of law I want to practice."

Her musings are interrupted by the server's arrival with a plate of piping hot samosas and a trio of dips. Padmé's eyes light up at the sight. She is quite hungry by now, but she lets Jenny take the first bite, knowing she's been dancing all morning. The waiter turns to Padmé to ask if she's ready to order, and she requests an order of chicken biryani and an iced tea. While their server turns to Jenny for her order, Padmé grabs a samosa from the plate, dips it into the ramekin nearest her and takes a bite. "Mmmmm," she closes her eyes for a moment, grinning as she chews.

padme -> jenny: ok! there's a new indian place opening across the street from the bar we went to last month. let's go there.

padme -> jenny: gonna try to sleep after all. see ya tomorrow.

[ten hours later]

As it turns out, the interview runs twenty minutes long, which Padmé takes as a very good sign. It means she has all of five minutes to change out of her interview clothing and into something suitable for lunch with a friend. After a minute of deliberation, she decides to keep the navy blue suit pants and cream camisole she's in and merely discard the suit jacket in favor of an off-shoulder, hunter green sweater. All that's left is to slip a lip gloss and her phone into her purse and head out the door.

padme -> jenny: only JUST now leaving. sorry! see you in 20

When she arrives at the restaurant, she finds Jenny already at the table and apologizes again: "Sorry! The interview ran long, which is a good sign, but not great if you have plans right afterwards." Slinging her purse strap over the back of her chair, Padmé comes around to Jenny's side of the table, arms open to give her a hug in greeting. "It's so good to see you though! What time does your shift start?"

padme -> jenny: yes!!! ok my interview is at 11. It's only an hour, and it's virtual cuz the firm's in Boston so... I could by over near you by 1 at the latest? Late lunch?

His flat affect was the shield he needed to protect himself. Vader's eyes flicked to her face. The face of an angel. Hiding from her was a reflex he learned over time. Letting his hardened walls down was never an option. Before he was quick, powerful, and smart-mouthed. He went boldly into the fray without blinking because it was the right thing to do. It was what his mother would wish of him.

He tore his eyes away from those judgmental brown orbs and studied the rose closet to him. Fragile and beautiful, it would come to an end eventually. Sooner with him crushing the petal between his fists. That was his reality. No one grew here. Everything died slowly but surely. "And I'm not!" His voice raised as he snapped, finally. "I spent years here! And for what?!" Nostrils flared as he turned towards her with wild azure eyes. "Everything comes to an end!" Letting the petals go after another squeeze, he went to stomp near the door and fling it open. "Your time's up, Princess." He said through ground teeth.

So he thinks of himself as a prisoner here too? Interesting. How long has he felt this way, Amidala wonders. He is clearly unhappy, based on their earlier conversation, but now she has a better idea of why, and she cannot help thinking it will be to her advantage. At the same time that her mind is turning several steps ahead, formulating a plan to eventually escape Galbatorix's clutches and get her back home, she is also moved with compassion for her fellow "prisoner."

"Then why don't you leave?" she asks him quietly, remaining still and unmoved by his display of anger. While he stomps towards the door back inside the castle, Amidala extends her hand to the crushed rose petals he'd left on the ground. With a murmured word, the petals reform into a rose in full bloom, which she tucks into the corner of the neckline of her dress for safekeeping. Once she reaches Vader's side again, she asks him: "So because I have asked a question that you don't want to face, you're taking away more of what little liberty I have? How does that help you, a fellow prisoner?"
