Judith breathed a sigh of relief as she followed him. If it did turn out the weirdo was following her, than she was more than safe here with her mentor. “Hmmm… Self defense. I can’t always depend on you or my siblings. Gotta know what to do if I happen to run into any…” She cleared her throat as she moved to lean against the desk with him, leaving the thought unfinished. The creepy guy would just not leave her head. She went onto another topic to help ease her nerves. “S-so how was your day Dex? Did Julius have you do anything exciting for the Saints?”

Dex shrugged. “Not much. Showed the new recruits around after their canonizing. Got em some weapons, then took em out to Freckle Bitch’s. So I suppose a rather uninteresting day.” He looked up from his feet to Judith’s eyes. “And I assume you just had school. So we’re about even.” A smile formed on his lips.

“Not really. I-… I… Um.” Judith shoved her hands in her pockets as her eyes examined a suddenly interesting speck of dirt on the floor. She wanted to tell him she thought some old guy was creeping her out. That he might be out there somewhere, waiting for her. But the smallest part of her was telling her that maybe she was just being paranoid. Over thinking a few possible coincidences. Maybe she was over reacting. Maybe…. She hoped so. That small part of Judith won, but she still felt disturbed. She didn’t want to worry Dex about it though. “I… Did a few assessments at school today. They were REALLY hard and I think I might have flunked. I didn’t remember a lot of the material.” She lied. She gave a small laugh, forcing a grin on her face. “I guess that’s what happens when you don’t study, huh?”

Dex raised an eyebrow at her. She seemed a bit more upset than a test she expected to fail would make her, but decided not to pry. “Indeed it is. Well, at least you know what you need to do in the future so it doesn’t happen again.” Leading his pupil inside, he brought her back to his office and leaned against the desk.

“I’m leaving it up to you to decide which lesson you want today. There’s self-defense, gun-handling, and hand-to-hand combat.”

Judith yawned as she made her way to the church, backpack hanging loosely on one of her shoulders. She just finished doing a few assessments at school and she was mentally drained. She had a few study packets she had to work on but she was in no mood for anything school related for the rest of the day. Instead she’d rather spend her time with Dex, assuming he wasn’t too busy for her today.

Judith noticed a man staring her down as they passed eachother. She didn’t pay it any mind. Probably some prude old man mentally judging her for her tomboy-ish appearance. But as she walked away she could still feel his eyes on her. And his stare didn’t just stick to her, it moved over her. Examining her in a way that make her skin crawl. She regretted turning her head when she saw the man tailing her from a distance. At least she hoped he wasn’t. Maybe he just miscalculated and it turned out he had to go the opposite way. That had to be it right?… Right? Either way, she quickened her pace and took a few back ally short cuts, in case it turned out that the man was indeed following her.

When Judith made it to the church and saw familiar people dressed in purple, she breathed a sigh of relief. She turned around again, expecting to see that weird man but saw no one. It didn’t make her feel any better though. She could still feel his eyes. As if he was still there, just hiding. Watching. Stalking. And even though she knew nothing bad would happen with the Saints by her, she felt a little panicked by the possibility that the man from before might be spying on her from somewhere for god knows what reason. She KNEW she was safe. She just didn’t FEEL like it. He ran up the stairs of the church, dropping her backpack on one of the steps on the way and ran inside to find Dex, hoping his presence would make her feel better.

“H-hey Dex! It’s Jay!” She called. “I’m back from school! Please tell me your here!”

A rather loud conversation echoed through the open halls of the church, as Dex joked with some of the newer recruits. He liked putting them at ease that the Saints were, in fact, fun to roll with, especially after a canonizing. Over time he simply began taking it up as part of his lieutenant duties.

Judith’s familiar voice was hard to hear over the newer Saints, but Dex picked it up pretty quickly. He bade them goodbye as he wandered to her voice, and upon turning the corner, saw her standing there.

“Hey Judith!” Dex quickly studied her face and realized she was worried, or at least freaked out by something, and the smile on his face quickly went away. “Are you okay?”

Leading her back to the car, Dex hopped in. “We could. Or we could do a little sight-seeing. I dunno, it’s up to you.”

Judith got into the car and put on her seatbelt. “Probably sight seeing. Just so we could chill for a while.”

“Aight then, sight seeing it is. Maybe we could even stop in at the museum or something. I dunno, we got three days to do this.” Dex started up his Raycaster and pulled back out into the road, heading towards the nearby Freckle Bitch’s. He ordered them both a Fist burger and a drink and pulled into the parking lot to eat.

“Yeah that would be great!” Judith put the shell in her pocket and got up as well. “So what’ll we do while you’re stuck with me tomorrow? More training?”

Leading her back to the car, Dex hopped in. “We could. Or we could do a little sight-seeing. I dunno, it’s up to you.”

Judith looked at the shell, admiring it. “Of course I want to. I like spending time with you.”

Dex cringed a little bit. “Right. I keep forgetting they’re like that.” He paused. “So you’re saying I’m more mature or reasonable than them?” Laughing a bit, he turned the shell over to inspect the other side. “Dang.”

Judith shrugged. “The truth is a great defense.”
