Toothpaste for dinner
Sounds familiar!
Which part is the beauty of illustrious skin or the danger of the darkly painted recesses of hollow bone beneath could be disputed, but each character’s final outcry of emotion can only be real. Love is found where it was lost, trust where it was betrayed, and fear of the unknown where the steely cold façade of strength once presided impenetrable. While we may not record strangers or blatantly invade people’s privacy in our day-to-day, we still all glean answers for how to cope, grow, and engage the world around us so we may find ourselves.
The Film Stage review written by Jared Mobarak.
Diamond on Vinyl is a master class on ensemble cast acting. Every single word, no matter how far-fetched, is believable, even if the actions (or lack of) are not. These are real characters speaking with real words and real rhythm, uttered by first-class actors who sound as if they were improvising every line.

My Slamdance family! We reunited at Indie Memphis - such a great time. Left to right: Julia Morrison (editor/writer/producer, Hank & Asha), Nicole Teeny (director/producer, Bible Quiz), Apolonia Panagopoulos (editor, Diamond on Vinyl), J.R. Hughto (writer/director/producer, Diamond on Vinyl).
Diamond on Vinyl is now available in North America for pre-order on iTunes! We'll also be available on cable on On Demand, and many other outlets. Announcements on theatrical engagements soon! Exciting times!
We'll be heading out to the Tacoma Film Fest in October, so we thought it only proper to break out a new trailer for the occasion!
In this way there are no outright detectives or dames in Diamond On Vinyl, no large conspiracies (outside of the mystery of the self). But few other recent films crackle with an intensity that echo back to the darkly cloaked pulp writings of David Goodis, or recall cinematic classics such as The Conversation or Blow Out in their social-psychological labyrinths. Provocative and meditative stuff to be sure.
Indie Beat lists Diamond on Vinyl as one of their top 9 Indie films through the first half of 2013! It's a great honor to keep such great company!
Diamond Wins 2 Awards at the Downtown Film Festival LA Premiere
DFFLA was very good to us! I was excited for Diamond to be part of the festival and to have a 'home town' screening in one of my favorite Los Angeles theaters, the Downtown Independent. The screening was great - Diamond looked beautiful, sounded amazing, the Q&A led by Programmer Tony Smith was really fun, and the audience reaction was amazing. We screened back to back with our own Brian McGuire's world premiere of his newest film in the director's chair, Prevertere, which went on to win Best Narrative Feature. And we got a great write up on Opening Ceremony! What could be better?
I'm excited to announce that Diamond on Vinyl took home two awards at DFFLA: Best Ensemble Performance and Best Director. It's an overwhelming honor, and we are all incredibly thankful to the Programmers, Jury, and audience at the Downtown Film Festival. It's an experience we'll never forget.
Heading back to the condo after the closing night party at Slamdance. Both happy and sad.

view from the bus. We were really fortunate that up until Thursday afternoon the weather was really spectacular. I took this shot on the way in for the Slamdance red carpet.
Elliot V. Kotek interviews Sonja Kinski, Brian McGuire, Nina Millin and director J.R. Hughto about their new film "Diamond On Vinyl" at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
I love this one because we got to do it as a team!
My interview with Slamdance Juror Sheri Candler for MicroFilmmaker Magazine. Director J.R. Hughto discusses his entry into filmmaking from being a photographer and graphic novelist starting with making short films, his new microbudget feature Diamond on Vinyl, and how he views the sacrifices filmmakers have to make in order to work within a certain budget level.
