AI art creation -- Is it cheating?
Many of our designs are created using the AI program, Midjourney. Midjourney is somewhat controversial, particularly among artists, because it distills the skill of countless art creators into a powerful engine that can be leveraged by anyone who knows how to craft a string of words -- called a "prompt" -- that rub it the right way. Midjourney can create -- in mere seconds -- images of art pieces that would take artisans an entire year or more, to make. It also creates the opportunity to create, for those of us who lack artistic skill, but possess a knack for descriptive language. Suddenly, focus shift away from skilled hands to a mind gifted with imagination, and the ability to put that imagination into words. Suddenly, even a quadriplegic is able to create, by sheer virtue of having developed the power of expressing themselves. Here is an example of an image created using Midjourney, based on a friends dog, that turned into a piece of sheer whimsy:
