Your boyfriend is so lucky
IS HE THOUGH???
i got so much done yesterday. i put out 5 pr's. two were big, the other 3 were less big. and I was able to finish all the PR write ups and TEST ALL OF THEM.
I think its because this:
Everybody was OOO (it was a bank holiday) so I wasn't anticipating anybody messaging me. Making my anxiety low and allowing me to focus on what I was doing
I drank two americanos
I got great sleep the night before due to a friends magnesium supplement
How to be a great engineer
Master the art of being wrong. Be confident in your answer but do not be closed-minded. The person who believes they are the most ignorant in the room will be the one who learns the most.
When you think somebody is wrong, teach them and do not scold them. There are ways to problem-solve that do not require steamrolling others. Powerful engineers are those who help others find the same solution that they did, but letting them do it on their own.
Listen to people. Do not interrupt others when they are talking, no matter how wrong you think they are. Again there are ways to problem-solve without interrupting others.
Ask questions. Instead of saying “you are wrong” ask them the questions that you asked yourself.
Being a great engineer is not about how fast you come up with a solution or how many times you say “No that’s wrong.” Being a great engineer is about how many people you can lift while you climb, how well you can teach people, and how well you can communicate your concerns without discouraging people.
Some wisdom from one of our amazing engineers at Tumblr! 👏
damn 23 year old diana really did something
I'm back
I believe the last time I was on this platform, I was 27, unemployed and trying to figure out my life. Now I'm 29! Employed, and still trying to figure out my life. I guess the last part never changes huh, I was talking to Anoop yesterday about we all never really feel like adults. He mentioned he wakes up everyday thinking he's 15 years old, and for a sweet fleeting moment he is a kid again. I thought that was nice and gives one something to look forward to.
I've recently gotten promoted at my job, so I'm no longer mid. I wonder what being a senior engineer means, I don't feel any different. Maybe it gives me permission to be more vulnerable with my team, I'm already pretty vulnerable with them I think
The reasons I got promoted (Taylor's Version)
i bonded with @sarah and @eric and @rosie and @grant and @cameron during railsconf and the seattle onsite. you would think that a couple of days of hanging out isn't a huge deal. but i think bonds are the foundations of resilience. and i wouldn't have gotten promoted if i wasn't resilient
@grant took time to give me fire advice
@sarah is my rock
i felt fear and did it anyway, am i saying i was a delicate little flower that got scared when bothering people for things at work? yes that's exactly what im saying. now i still get scared to ask people for things but ill do it anyway
the people i work with see me and my efforts, and they tell me about it
i talked to people everyday because i embraced that coding is not silo'd work. shoutout to my birthday twin @alejandro! for the year that we were working together it was awesome and productive and i learned so fucking much because i was comfortable asking questions and looking stupid
there are definitely more reasons but ill write about them later
my sweater today!
i have lived many lives, i will live many lives, i’m living many lives now

party ideas
business emo: business casual but make it emo
shirts that go hard: shirts with sick phrases
librarian barbarians: if barbarians dressed like librarians
fruit cutting party: everyone brings their own fruit. we cut them into cool things like making watermelons into baskets
surprise party: we throw a surprise party for someone for no reason whatsoever. we congratulate them throughout the whole night and every time they ask what we’re celebrating we all just laugh
always have a birthday photobooth
