North Carolina Enacted a Law To Allow LGBT Discrimination.
Tonight, I am tired and torn. My company’s headquarters are in North Carolina. I know lots of good people in Raleigh. I cannot believe in this day and age, after years of activism, working to make the world a safer place for the next gen of queer folk coming up in the work place, being out when it wasn’t easy, watching friends die estranged from family during the AIDS epidemic, then thinking we’d turned a corner with Marriage Equality and Obama - only to see these overt acts of hatred being promoted by presidential candidates and put back into the law books. Tonight, I am deeply sadden and appalled by what is happening in America. I appeal to my friends and colleagues in North Carolina, don’t let this law stand. Don’t remain silent. For they will come for you one day, and there will be no one to speak for you. Do not let this law stand.

MashUp Culture: The Origins of Vidding
In the years following the Second World War, an explosion of mass-produced consumer goods, dynamic marketing and the pervasive broadcasts of radio and television produced a second wave of mashup culture that amplified and escalated its growth globally and across media. Mashup methodology—inspired by pre-war collage, montage, assemblage and the readymade—spread rapidly to diverse fields of cultural production, initiating new modes of music, architecture, art, design, film and literature. Artists such as Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg not only pilfered advertising and popular culture for their imagery but also replicated the production processes of contemporary manufacturing. The use of found film footage and montage also proliferated in this period, as artists such as such as Guy Debord, Dara Birnbaum and Nam June Paik reconfigured images of mass media to produce a dynamic critique of modern culture. In music, artists such as Pierre Schaeffer and John Cage extended the principle of the readymade to their compositions, while advances in multi-track technology spawned dub, a fledgling remix style that continues to have a profound influence on international music production. With their embrace of consumer goods, advertising and mass media imagery, post-war artists radically transformed both the premise and practice of art making, increasingly blurring the line between art and life. By absorbing aspects of commodity culture into their practices, these artists created works that were both products and critiques of the post-industrial society from which they emerged. One such practice was vidding.

How much did you spend on coffee outside of your home last year?
In 2015, I spent around 750 CND at various coffee shops aka some place outside of my home where I basically get the same thing for free.
It probably would have been more if I still lived in the city (Vancouver) and not in a rural community like (Sechelt, BC) with a limited range of coffee venues. I do travel a bit for work, so a few of those pit stops were probably covered by expense reports, but on the whole I usually pay with my debit card and absorb the expense myself.
I don’t begrudge myself the $750 as often it was an impromptu date with my wife or a rare moment in time shared with one of our teen-aged daughters in the drive thru. That’s the sort of thing that for $10, I never feel bad about.
I’m just peeked at my track record so far this year and I’m tracking to double my spending on coffees and sundries. I’m not sure what’s up with the up tick in coffee spending as I haven’t travelled for work yet and I work from home; so I ought to be fueling my addiction with my Aeropress or our ancient drip coffee maker purchased for $3 at the local thrift store (it still has the sticker on it). We had an espresso machine for many moons, but it kept needing repairs and had too many moving parts for us to put up with - so it got sent to the local thrift shop for some other unsuspecting coffee addict.
I stumbled upon the above infographic on How Much Starbucks we drink each year and it made me ponder what I’d spent. So I totaled it all up and came up with $750 CND (that is $515 USD). I thought it would be over $1000. I’m wondering about cash purchases, but I don’t really ever use cash anymore. So the $750 is probably pretty accurate.
So that brings me to my question: How much did you spend last year on coffee?
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
#noussommesparis #jesuisparis I was thumbing thru my father's collection of Lantern Slides from the American Colony Photographers taken in and around Jerusalem in the 1890-1910 and stumble upon this Blue, White, Red trio of veiled Muslim women. An Accidental Homage to #JeSuisParis from the past. The American Colony Photographers were actually much respected Christian missionaries who helped those in need regardless of their religion. They used the funds from the photographs which they sold to tourists and as book illustrations. Isn't it ironic, Christians in the 1890's in Jerusalem photographing Muslim women to raise funds for charitable work. This is a little bit of history that I wish would repeat itself today. Growth in STEM jobs
STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education is a hot topic as tech companies are in a rush to create a qualified future workforce. The U.S. Department of Commerce estimates that jobs in STEM will grow 17 percent by 2018 — nearly double the growth for non-STEM fields.
