Rationale
My responsive website is a continuation of the Volt app that I made for the first brief. I chose to do this as I thought that a website spin-off would hold a lot of good potential for displaying interesting content and ways to visualise data.
For both projects I asked people if they volunteer, and if they do, why they do it and what they would like to know about their volunteering that maybe wasn't currently available. A very common response from people was that they wanted to know how much of an impact their volunteering was having. I chose to focus on this for my website, but to also give it added value by creating a function whereby the altruism didn't just end with the individual volunteer, but could be multiplied through a larger community effort (i.e. Volt Tokens).
Both due to time restrictions and considered aesthetic choices, I've kept the design for the website simple in order to make the content clear and easy to access. I've continued using the same colour palette and tone that I developed for the app and have added in some illustrations to contribute to that slightly gamified, interactive and fresh feel (the idea being to give users a character to interact and identify with; someone who can be their 'Volt companion').
In terms of dynamic data, I have envisioned that a lot of it would be generated partially by users, but mostly by the backend of Volt. I have thought about the practicality of this, and while it would be too long to completely detail, doing it this way allows users to still interact with Volt while taking away a lot of the hard work of entering data and updating their own stats. This way they can still get the benefits of having the data, but they can also focus on the important stuff, which is volunteering.
