The weapon seemed utterly ( and quite amusingly ) at a total loss as to any form of argument against the doctor’s comparison -- to be fair, it would have been hard for anyone to argue against the similarities Stein had pointed out. The meister was quite good at manipulating a scenario to better suit his own desires; really, it wasn’t fair to Spirit. But then again, when had he ever been?

Eventually the Deathscythe seemed to accept his lot after failing to compose a solid counterpoint, and stormed off in a fit, only to return a few moments later in yet another article of the good doctor’s clothing; seemed as though he’d be doing some laundry later, the meister mused to himself as he adjusted his glasses. Ultimately, he was about as hapless regarding his current position of venturing outside with he weapon as the weapon himself had been in arguing semantics with the scientist only moments ago -- Spirit usually got his way when it came to these things, and Stein had learned that it was much less taxing to simply go along with his whims than to waste time and energy arguing it. More often than not, he usually ended up doing what the scythe insisted anyway, so why fight the inevitable?

Setting his equipment aside for the time being, he stepped out beside the weapon and winced against the incredible brightness of the sun that bathed the world outside his dark and dreary laboratory. A wasp buzzed by the meister’s ear, no doubt in search of water or some other essential nutrient -- the first the doctor had seen this year, he noted. Was it really time for the seasons to change already, he wondered? He turned the weapon with an expression of wry amusement -- the redhead truly looked the part of a pet dog in that moment, excited beyond belief as if he’d never seen the outside world before that very moment.

❝ – relatively speaking. You know, this kind of reminds me of our Academy days. You used to drag me out of our dorm and away from my studies to play outside all the time then too, didn’t you? ❞

Only a few moments passed in blissful silence, allowing him to record the changes in the samples he’d been experimenting with in peace before the weapon returned again -- this time sporting one of his lab coats. Stein had to admit ...he looked utterly ridiculous in it. It reminded him of an earlier time, back when they’d been partners at the Academy together, and Stein had first started donning those sorts of outfits best suited for his research. Spirit had insisted on trying one on back then, too -- as well as swiping Stein’s glasses and perching them on his own pert nose, parading around insisting he looked “intellectual” and that the girls would go absolutely wild for it. The meister couldn’t quell the small, bemused smile that the memory painted his thin, chapped lips with as he scribbled down the last statistic in his notebook.

...there was something else about it that made him smile, something that swelled somewhere in the hollow of his chest cavity, something else that was oddly ...satisfying about the situation. But it wasn’t something he could quite pin down -- so like most things he couldn’t emotionally comprehend, the doctor simply ignored it and carried on.

❝ – I honestly don’t see the point in explaining it to you, since you’ve already decided for yourself that it’s ‘boring.’ And what’s wrong with dogs? They’re loyal, energetic, praise-driven... ❞

He listed off the qualities that the animal and the weapon shared without a shred of shame -- and the similarities didn’t end there, it seemed, as the weapon mindlessly walked right into another one. Stein flashed him an incredibly disconcerting grin, tilting his head off to the side that his screw weighed most heavily on.

❝ – awww, you want me to take you for a walk, boy? Should I go get your leash, then? ~ ❞

The meister seemed skeptical at best of the other’s insistence that such an activity was fun -- although it was likely that was because the pair had very different ideas of the definition of the word. But games like these were pretty popular with his students these days, he’d noticed -- perhaps it would be an interesting experiment.

Settling down onto the couch next to the weapon, he eyed the controller for a moment, attempting to discern some idea regarding the order of the buttons, before he looked up toward the screen to select a character. -- naturally, the one that appeared to be a skeleton appealed to him the most. After selecting it, along with a suitable vehicle, he simply awaited the weapon to choose a course where he could get a feasible handle on the controls.

❝ – I take it you started playing this because you heard your daughter liked it. ❞

Cranking lazily at his screw, he hummed in consideration as he pondered the young reaper’s assertion. The more he thought about it, Spirit and Kidd’s souls were actually somewhat similar in terms of ability; that was to say, Kidd’s soul was capable of maintaining resonance with two weapons at once, while Spirit’s talent for controlling other wavelengths with immense precision was practically unmatched. His screw clicked into place, and his hand fell still against the steel.

❝ -- Huh. Well, to be honest with you, it’s kinda funny; as easily distracted as he tends to get, he’s actually pretty focused in battle. He can control even my incredibly flexible wavelength so precisely that he can use the residual static charge from my Soul Force attacks as an entirely new technique -- he weaves it into threads we can use to suture and bind the enemy, or even myself if it suited. I wouldn’t be able to control my wavelength strictly enough to use this technique without him.

-- so if I were you, I'd use that to your advantage, considering you attack with your soul wavelength as well, albeit in the form of bullets. But in terms of combat? It’s my understanding that you’re more accustomed to long-range weapons. I’d suggest you join in on my training sessions with Maka -- you’re gonna wanna brush up on your abilities as a scythe meister. ❞

And standing between Maka Albarn and Franken Stein, frankly there would be no better place to do so.

that aura terrifying and mysterious and familiar hovered from behind him. teeth still chattered but he forced down the panic that the other managed to induce by just standing there. ❛ first of all if you’re going to use any kind of animal to describe me i’m sure there’s a much more handsome one out there. ❜ out of the entire context of the conversation of course deathscythe chose that particular bit of information to focus on.

❛ old times meaning you wanna slice me open! ❜ as though reading the inner most thoughts of the other. ❛ i swear i’ve lost more shirts when i stay over here.. ❜ the weapon muttered under his breath. would it have killed the scientist to open the shirt before cutting?? ❛ can you just get me a shirt, i’m freezing. it’s freezing in here. ❜ arms fold across bare chest - scars from another lifetime ago littered pale white skin. some raised - after not healing particularly well most in part to his own incompetence - others were barely the ghost of an incision - those that stein himself had tended to.

❛ maybe a fox or something, those are pretty handsome. ❜ yes he had gone back to the previous animal subject from moments ago - still considering just what type of animal he would be. ❛ majestic lion? ❜

❝ – Only on the occasions that you actually show up wearing a shirt in the first place. ❞

He countered, hardly joking. And quite honestly, such a state as he’d just described wasn’t even the sorriest shape that the weapon had shown up at his door in. In truth, the scientist was quite used to this by now, as it had practically become a routine. Given that he didn’t have company very often and considering that Spirit was quite likely his closest ( if not only ) friend, it wasn’t always exactly... unwelcome. He turned aside, appearing to shift his focus away from the weapon -- although the morbidly amused smile remained plastered on his face.

❝ – you’re more than welcome to raid my closet in exchange for a tissue sample. And the temperature is adjusted for the comfort of my specimen, not you. After all, they live here -- though you practically do too, as of late. Shouldn’t you be at your bachelor pad in case literally any woman in Death City calls? Besides your ex-wife I mean -- she’d never call you again. ❞

Talk about salting the wound; and the meister took every opportunity to do just that. Somehow he found the mortified and emotionally gauged expression on the weapon’s face to be endlessly entertaining. Satisfied with his own entirely absent sense of morality, he shouldered past the weapon and slouched off in the direction of his lab table.

❝ – actually, I’ve always seen you like more of a dog. ❞

No need to elaborate on that, evidently.

yoshi was the way to go really, with the dirt bike. planning these things happened to be an integral part of winning. which deathscythe did in mario kart, a lot. not to brag. since the weapon was now so often at the laboratory he had taken it upon himself to create a more tasteful decor. a larger screen television was a must as well as the now plugged in nintendo switch.

currently rainbow road was being overrun by multiple beasts in varying karts and naturally spirit albarn was in the lead. ‘ hey hey down in front! ‘ the patchwork scientist wandered across the screen, entering the living room.

The meister turned his attention back over his shoulder -- far be it for him to bend down in front of the television in his own home to pick up a file he'd been looking for. Offering the weapon only a deadpan expression in reply before picking the manila folder that had slipped off the coffee table up off the floor and standing back to his full height. With his free hand he began to crank at the screw through his skull curiously, watching the television with mild interest.

❝ – what in the world are you doing? ❞

❝professor stein !! mmh, black*stars seems a little distracted lately. i hope it’s not to much trouble to get the notes. i could just copy them though.❞ cue tsubaki always trying to make sure everyone is taken care of. she wouldn’t want to inconvenience the professor. though, she had a slight idea that would’t be the case.she looked a little worried however, but she knew to try && shake it off. black*star had seemed so distant. but the weapon smiles nonetheless.

Perching his chin in his open palm, the meister observed the weapon from behind the thin guard of his glasses. She was a fool to believe that she could slip anything past the scientist with the ability to see souls. He hummed to himself as he watched her wavelength fluctuate with uncertainty, attempting to stabilize itself as she held her unwavering smile.

❝ – Oh, it’s no trouble. Actually I’ve already printed them off for him -- they’re right there, on the printer behind my desk. ...your soul seems fretful. More than it usually is when Black Star just oversleeps or skips class because he thinks he’s too good for it. Is everything alright with him? ❞

❝ – not bad. You managed to land a couple of blows -- better than the others did the first time we met. But you’re focusing more on balance than you are on actually landing your attacks. ❞

The meister parried another one of his student’s attacks with a swipe of his arm before retaliating with a swing of his own leg. But Kidd’s reflexes were something to be acknowledged, perhaps even admired as the reaper swiftly evaded the attack and raptly put some distance between himself and his professor-turned-sparring-partner. Even though he was a Grim Reaper and posed a greater threat on the battlefield than his other classmates in that respect, Kidd was still just a child, and hardly a match for the experienced meister. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he waited for Kidd’s next onslaught.

❝ Quit worrying so much about the symmetry of your body’s movements and put more power behind blows. You can’t skate by on only your soul’s energy forever just because you have a surplus of it as a Grim Reaper. ❞

The meister snickered, clearly amused by his own jabs at his former partner. Admittedly it wasn’t as fun as taking actual jabs at him with a scalpel -- but spreading ridiculous rumors about him was probably the next best thing in terms of torturing him. Then again, given that Kidd was a certified Grim Reaper, he’d likely prove more than capable.

❝ – but in all honesty; even with your skill set, wielding a Deathscythe is different from any other weapon. You’ll probably need a bit of practice. ❞

He grinned at her from behind the fold of his arms as he perched his chin the the cradle of them, sitting backwards on his wheeling chair -- clearly he was much more bemused by the wild meister’s incapability to be present for his lectures than concerned or disapproving as a professor ought to be. Then again, Stein wasn’t exactly an average professor.

the CAT whines, chin pressed into her palm as she SIGHS before amber gaze flicks to the man beside her. he’s friends with mister death scythe and a teacher to maka, soul and the others. maybe he would quell her BOREDOM.

The scientist lifts a brow, taking the cigarette he’d snuck out between the classes he was instructing to smoke from between his teeth a moment to reply to the whining cat girl -- this was Blair, as he recalled. She had essentially become Soul and Maka’s pet cat after they had unwittingly taken one of her nine lives, having mistaken her for a witch. She was also Spirit’s favorite drinking buddy as of late; but what she was doing at the school in the middle of the day, Stein had little to no idea.

❝ – hey there. Shouldn’t you be serving drinks at Chupa’s? ...or swindling the grocery store out of some fish? ❞
