“Honestly, what did people do before they had smart phones?” Having forgotten her phone at phone and clearly in need of some type of distraction, Dina had produced an old, crumpled newspaper from her massive bag. “Did they actually think their thoughts?” A snort escaped. “That sounds awful. Can’t have that.”
Penelope had the exact same routine since she was in the ninth grade. She’d wake up and go for a run as soon as the sun was bright enough to light up the streets. Today was one of her rare days off from the studio, but she still had to get her morning run in. After coming to a stop, she paused the music in her ears before going into the little coffee shop. “Hey!” she greeted, still catching her breath. “Put that away. Coffee is on me this morning.”
She jumped slightly, surprised by the voice addressing her. It was familiar voice but it was also loud and had seemingly come out of nowhere. “Are you sure?” she asked, her eyes wandering to the coffee being made. “I mean, I would’ve gotten something a little less, uh, ridiculous and expensive if I had known you’d be paying for it.”
Lucas nervously chewed on the back of a neon yellow highlighter while his eyes skimmed the page. It was better to risk the pen exploding in his mouth than getting into the bad habit of biting his nails again– his oral fixation needed some kind of fill. He already knew the script back to back but his mind blanked every time he had an audition. There was no such thing as learning too much he figured, but the more he read the scene over, the less confident he felt.
The subway car was uncharacteristically empty for New York City, but then again, it was also two am in the morning. He looked over to the only other person in the car and cleared his throat loudly to get their attention. “Excuse me, would you like to run lines with me? I’ve got an audition for this thing in the morning…”

While Dina had solemnly sworn she would not go about getting involved in any type of subway shenanigans, some sort of common decency and desire to be at least somewhat helpful forced her to nod slowly. She was tired, yes, but perhaps this activity could help her to stay awake.
“Sure. Why not.” She paused for a moment. “I hope it doesn’t require any sort of skill. My high school drama teacher told me I had hopelessly flat affect. I don’t think that has changed.” Her curiosity had taken the best of her and she tilted her head slightly. “What is it about? Is it a play?”
( AIYSHA HART + CIS FEMALE ) — Have you seen KHADIJA “DINA” HASHEM ? This THIRTY year old is a MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST who resides in QUEENS. SHE has been living in NYC for THIRTY YEARS, and is known to be COMPASSIONATE and INQUISITIVE, but can also be CYNICAL and IMPATIENT, if you cross them. People tend to associate them with FORGOTTEN CUPS OF COFFEE and ALL BLACK OUTFITS.
hello everyone! i am riina. i live in the gmt+2 timezone in northern europe with my partner and our two rambunctious kittens. i used to be pretty active in the roleplay community but i took almost a two year break as i was figuring stuff out. however, i am back and super excited to be here! i am a full-time student and have a part-time job but all my classes are online so i will definitely be around whenever i am parked in front of my laptop.
trigger warning for mentions of religion and ableism!
khadija, or dina, was born in new york city and has lived in the state for her entire life. she went to college in albany but was constantly going back and forth even then. so she’s definitely been around and would know people.
her dad is from saudi arabia, her mom from the uk. they met and married in nyc while teaching at different universities.
she has two younger brothers & an older sister from her mom’s first marriage. expect a connection request for her soon. dina has always been very close with her family and continues visiting her parents at least once a week. the fact that they live just a few miles away helps.
grew up in a muslim household. now considers herself to be culturally muslim and somewhat religious despite also identifying as a secular.
has her master’s in clinical laboratory science & works for weill cornell medicine. dreams of getting her doctorate but isn’t in any rush as she has other, more pressing aspirations.
a happily married gay lady! she never had to come out to her family, it was always kind of obvious. dina and her wife married around two years ago and are now thinking of starting the process of having a kid. again, expect a connection request for her wife in the near future!
not the most outgoing person in the world, dina can be a bit withdrawn and seem kind of uninterested. however, she’s incredibly caring and curious. it just takes her a while to figure out how to be with new people or what they expect of her.
likes towering over people. she’s 5′10′’ and has no qualms about wearing heels or chunky boots. she doesn’t really understand fashion or colours which is why she tends to wear all black. it’s easier to coordinate and usually looks decent.
dina is on the autism spectrum. she’s very open about it and will gladly discuss what it means to her. she had plenty of unpleasant experiences as a child and a teenager but fortunately she has always had a really supportive family and a close group of friends.
as far as connections go, i am up for almost anything! more than anything else, i would love for her to have some really close friendships and acquaintances that might develop into said friendships. some folks who drag her out when all she wants to do is sit inside would be much appreciated.
again, it’s so good to be here! don’t hesitate to throw me a message or like this post if you’re feeling a bit shy! i will come and bother you then.
