I'm bringing This Might Be A Tangent to Fremont Abbey on August 21st!!! this is the same live show i did in Toronto and Vancouver last summer, and currently the ONLY show of this run (though i do hope to add more in the future, stay tuned if you are nowhere near seattle and do not have the poor judgment to travel far and wide for this)

vandusen botanical garden!!! it's so gorgeous and it's one of my favourite parts of the city!
steveston! it's a fishing village that's part of the broader city and there's a really really cool cannery museum there about the area's history. i learned so much stuff about what a dangerous job (well, series of jobs) it was. really cool place to go
lynn canyon in north vancouver! you've probably seen photos of the famous suspension bridge at capilano:
and it is a cool area with a tree walk, but it's also $50. lynn canyon is right nearby, has its own suspension bridge and some gorgeous trails, and is completely free:
the richmond night market if you're a food person! now, some people will complain that there are lines and it's expensive. this is true. but it's literally fun. every weekend until fall starts there are all these food stalls, music, games, etc. very very fun times
the PNE is currently open if you're an amusement park fan! not the best theme park i've been to but not the worst either. if you like rides i would recommend, if you don't i would not
kits beach is an extremely popular beach that's really nice, but if you like a quieter beach i'd recommend jericho beach. it's literally right next to it, is more peaceful, and is a great place to set up an umbrella and relax
broadly, go walk around kitsilano! west broadway and west 4th specifically. i recommend koko monk if you like hot chocolate
go see a movie at the rio! super cool independent theatre that does cool art films, live events, etc. when you're done, take a walk down commercial drive since you're right there and there are tons of cool shops. there's a bookstore i think is called spartacus books that sells mostly left-wing theory and queer fiction and they're super nice in there and gave me a free tote bag once because the rain was ruining the paper bag i got at a nearby thrift store so now i have to recommend them
go get dim sum in richmond!!!

I can't believe this is how I'm finding out that I got a scam forklift cert.
I took the cargo ops class at school but my teacher explained that it doesn't give a certification and I'd only be okay for ship's crane and the school forklifts. she said I could take an online exam and get my cert. I paid 60 bucks.
I'm googling and I'm seeing a lot of resources saying that the online programs cover the classroom part of the exam but not the in person practical aspect.

but I did the in person practical shit at school.
the back of the card even had fancy numbers on it. I couldn't have known that this isn't the one. this website sounded more official than certifyme.net, and there wasn't one with a .gov address.
so, I emailed OSHA, and they said that so long as I live and work in California, there's no such thing as forklift certification. I have to be told how to do it every time I get the job.
Update: I took a certification class in shipboard Material Handling Equipment at my federal job. *now* I'm forklift certified, but only on ships and piers and only for this company, but also rated to forklift explosives and hazardous materials. Also I'm a woman now.

talked about it on reddit! tl;dr a friend had an attempt last weekend and it got me rethinking some parts of the danya/kramnik stuff now that danya has sadly passed, and with everything that went down i just feel odd laughing about kramnik at all. i think what i will probably do is make some edits to that section and reupload (besides, i mispronounced kasparov so that'd be a good chance for a small correction there) but i'm still thinking it over. i have two other videos mid-production right now though so please be patient!

OMG no i didn't but i went to some other summer camps in alberta. i was first told the story by a friend who lived in vancouver actually!! maybe the cheerios joke has a canadian character to it

Hi I just wanted to let you know that I really really liked your new video "Three dead girls I love" I truly think it's some of your best work. Please don't feel like you have to respond to this I just wanted to let you know. I have never left and ask before but I was just I was truly blown away by this video. Every single time I had a thought you would follow up with the next section literally being that thought that I had. It was truly a really compassionate and well thought-out video and I learnt a lot and I also nearly cried so I really appreciate you making it. It was so unflinchingly feminist which is something I really appreciated and it's not something that is particularly popular at the moment so I appreciate it all the more. I'm going to research about these girls a lot more.

on your execution day, they behead your husband first. you aren't there for it. you look out the window of your prison and you see his beheaded body brought back. you cry out. you cannot go to him.
