rewatching Encanto and it really hit me for the first time how greatful Augustine must be for Bruno.
'cause it's implied that Brunos relationship with....everyone. was already strained by the time his sisters got married.
But Pepa is the one upset about her wedding, not Felix. he has opinions on Bruno's gift, but the only negative thing he says about Bruno is asking why he would mention rain to an already stressed Pepa? Bruno's back for like a minut before Felix is openly and happily agreeing with him.
Julita is the one who says Bruno "lost his way in this family", as if his gift and peoples reaction to it is his fault, as if he didn't do enough. Augustine never says a word about him, but the way he joins in on the triplet reunion hug....
most likely these three guys were friends. and they must know that Bruno loves his family.
Louisa hears 'the grown ups' talking about the horrible last prophesy. so they know Alma asked him to look, they assume it was unusually bad, 'cause he left right after. there must have been talks between auguatine and Felix, Augustine and Julita, Felix and Peppa, all four of them, over the years about what the prophesy was and what happened to Bruno. at some point they must have had the thought that Bruno is dead(especially with the deleated scene that basically says he was suicidal).
Augustine has like 4 secounds, but he's not an idiot, he knows his family, he knows Alma. he knows that, yeah, the last 10 years have not been good for Mirabel. but it could have so much worse. and yeah, Bruno leaving hurt the family. but here's proof that it was a desperate attemt to protects his niece from growing up with this prophesy hanging over her on top of not having a gift.
so inbetween the stress of the last few days and the almost here dinner and worry for his daughter and shock at what the prophesy turned out to be. somewhere in the mix there must have been a rush of gratitude towards Bruno for trying.
