Kassander Snow â 20 â Asset â N/A â TAKEN
Kassanderâs unconventional upbringing turned him into a rather unconventional person. For about three years after his birth, his mother and father were just like any other member of the working class. His mother was a nurse and his dad worked at a factory that specialized in packaging and shipping â super white bread. Everything started getting crazy on his 4th birthday. Leading up to that day, his mother had begun experiencing mood swings of an extreme nature. It wasnât until she went to a psychologist that it was diagnosed as Bi-polar disorder. For his dad mostly, things got tough from then on. Not being the most resilient guy, he dipped out on them pretty soon after the diagnosis; Kassander age 6.
After that it was just he, his mother and his aunt. It wasnât so bad. His mom would disappear for a few days then come back. Sometimes sheâd grab him, making him miss school for a week, then drop him back off at home before truancy officers got on her ass. It didnât seem odd to Kassander in the slightest but his Aunt felt differently. She was a free spirit but no where near as free as Kassanderâs mom. She called CPS, had her sister locked up in a psych ward and her nephew remanded to the state. That was an all time low but, somehow, Kassander managed to find light in that.
He was a pretty good looking kid and so the foster families that took him in were always stupid rich. Around 8 was when he realized he had a penchant for stealing. It was a pretty vicious cycle until he aged out of the system. A foster family would take him in, heâd rob them blind, try to make a break for it, get captured and returned â in all honesty it became monotonous. Eventually one family would get sick of him, so he was shipped off to the next. When he turned 18, heâd managed to pawn enough of the stuff so that he wasnât totally up a creek without a paddle.
He bought a bus ticket to New York and made Brooklyn his base of operations. He carved out a decent living lying, cheating and stealing. He targeted tourists because , honestly, they had no idea what was going on half the time. 19 was a good year for himâŚuntil he stole from the wrong guy.
This dude, who Kassander can only recall as being super Irish, was shady in all aspects of the word. So, instead of killing the kid, he had Kass thrown into Diran â a whole different sort of prison. Heâs not quite sure if he got lucky, or if this is just the beginning of his troubles.
As a disclaimer, Kass always starts with the negative. He has no qualms about admitting heâs an asshole. In fact, itâs kind of insurance when you make that clear in the first place. For, in the highly likely chance he screws someone over, he always has that to fall back on. Simply put, heâs in this game called life purely for his own self-interest. He takes what is given to him, swindles what's denied to him. The concept of authority never really made sense and thatâs always been his problem, ever since he was young. What started perhaps as childish mischief transformed into sarcastic arrogance as he got older. Testing boundaries is what Kassander was made for and heâs happy to push anyoneâs buttons. After all that, being a light-fingered thief doesnât even seem so bad.
The boy does have redeeming qualities, however, as every anti-hero must have a code of conduct. Over the years Kass has adopted this sort of âlittle guys gotta stick togetherâ mentality. Rather nobly, he often comes to the defense of the weak, those underdogs society feels they can kick around. In those rare cases someone saves his ass, he becomes fiercely loyal. If he considers you a friend, heâs got your back no matter what.
