The Nipple Cream Challenge: Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm vs. Lansinoh HPA LanolinÂ
If youâre new to the lip game, you might not know about one of the top moisturizing products out there: nipple cream. And while youâre probably cringing right now, hear me outânip cream is the best thing to happen to my lips since I discovered MACâs Heroine.
On a whim, I decided to order Lansinoh, the soothing cream for women who breastfeed. While Iâm not a mother and donât have, erm, nipple problems, I heard around the online beauty community that it worked wonders for cracked, chapped lips. As a person who basically has Chronic Dry Lip Syndrome (just made that up, btw), I decided to give it a shotâand let me tell you, Iâm never going back.
Lansinoh is made out of lanolin, a waxy-like material thatâs secreted from sheep sebaceous glandsâyum, right? The wax is an amazing treatment for struggling sensitive areas like, you know, your lips and nips.
After a dayâs struggle with air, wind, and other forces, I dab a little on my finger and make sure to warm it up in my hand, so it goes on smoothly. I slather it on, making sure to cover all the nooks and crannies that tend to get rough. In the morning, I take any excess thatâs still visible and voilĂ , I have the lips of an angel. QUOTE ME.
The Lansinoh is great and all, but it lacks portability, as itâs in a big tube and is a little heavy for midday use. Thus enters Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm For Lips, which was given to me by the lovely Birchbox team! This week, I tested the Dr. Lipp product to see how it stood up to my trusty Lansinoh.
First, I give it a 10 out of 10 for portability, as it fit easily into my purse, pockets, and work bag. And unlike your usual lip balm, thereâs no catastrophic messâas it slowly comes out of the tube and doesnât require lip-to-container contact.
However, the slow factor has its disadvantages, and sometimes isnât ideal for on-the-go use. Like the Lansinoh, Dr. Lipp needs a little warming up, because in its natural state, itâs a bit sticky and hard to apply. Once it was on, I realized it tasted and smelled a little weird, but those were tolerable factors.
Throughout the day, I really tried to like the productâbut I often found myself either reapplying or using my other lip balms. Also, while I only need a pea-sized amount of Lansinoh, I felt like I had to use a lot more of Dr. Lipp to get the true moisturized feeling I wanted.
Now, I will say that I wasnât extremely disappointed, because although the results werenât immediate, I liked the fact that my lips were getting mini doses of lanolin to help in the overall effort against Chronic Dry Lip.
BUT compare the two and youâll find a better deal with Lansinoh, which comes in at $7.99 for 1.41 ounces, while Dr. Lipp is $14.50 for 0.507 ounces.
